JRPGs |OT| The Grind to Level 99 is Paved With Good Intentions

IIRC Nick said on a rumour mill that NIS games are coming to Xbox. I think he even mentioned Ys.

As for ports I would guess Tales of Symphonia 2 to complete the series, maybe Rune Factory 3 and another Sega/Namco/Marvelous game.

Finished Persona 4 Golden and it was my first time playing a Persona game since P5 in 2017 lol. Canā€™t believe I waited so long to play another Persona gameā€¦ thatā€™s because I fell into the SMT rabbit hole instead lol. On the bright side I got to play P4 for my first time on Xbox.

I was pretty surprised at how much I was not spoiled on, only knowing the culprit which is probably the hardest to avoid spoiler. Everything else though, didnā€™t know anything about, and yes I enjoyed the story and especially the setting a lot.

Iā€™ve still not touched P5 Royal or P3 Portable yet, Iā€™m wondering if P3P is even worth it with the remake coming. P5R might leave GP in October (or be permanent like Yakuza maybe?) but I am expecting the physical version to be dirt cheap on black friday anyway.

I also finished Atelier Marie last week. Not too much to say because there really isnā€™t a story and the dialogue is extremely barebones. Only took about 10 hours and that was with seeing most of the events. The gameplay though is pretty addictive, youā€™re mainly spending your time passing in quests at the bar which are all simple enough. While you do have a very lenient time limit to complete the game (5 in game years, which actually goes by very quick), I essentially had nothing left to do on year 4 and just slept for 1 year LOL. Synthesizing isnā€™t too involved in this game, you buy your weapons and armor, you can still make overpowered bombs though. The cutscenes with the 2D animated portraits look very nice as well. A nice bite-sized JRPG to finish in a few days, just as the back of the box states ā€œA cozy, carefree RPGā€.

A bit unfortunate that that Atelier reveal last month ended up being for a mobile game. I guess -this- month will answer if we see it come to Xbox.

Now as always for TGS JRPGs I would like to see this :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

This makes me want to go back and finish Valkyria Chronicles 4, i think i stoped over the halfway point but got stuck doing the DLC content and never came back afterwards. I have plans to give Persona 4 a go, but am hesitant whether or not i should go and get every Confidant to the max.

I can see you being as determined as ever to see the Trials Franchise make their debut on Xbox Consoles. Hopefully its true, for me am hoping for 13 Sentinels after seeing so many talking about it in the thread.

Really now. Am guessing Ys and Disgae are not out of the picture. Can see both on Xbox now with this information.

In regards to ports, other than Trials, Ys, Disgae and Shin Megami Tensei, it would be smart to get Atelier and some Square Enix games in the mix for ports.

Am kinda hoping to see Xbox get marketing rights for Penny Blood and Armed Fantasia and be announced that both will be on Game Pass. That would be a massive Win in my book.

Disgaea is pure grind game and I donā€™t think it would be popular. Personally I hope itā€™s Ys or Legend of Heroes.

And I think a Game Pass deal would be good enough for Penny Blood and Armed Fantasia or even the new Patapon game.

 this is a practice that needs to be stopped. I was scrolling and saw this image and nearly jumped out of my seat.

I mean, there is rumors going around about Tango Gameworks making one, but its a wait and see kind of thing especially after releasing Hi-Fi Rush not too long ago.

Which game or series that you have high hopes of being ported or hope to see Xbox? Why do you believe it will occur and the potential that it could bring to the brand itself?

Also i have been trying to guess whether Xbox would try to get their hands on obscure jrpg franchises or Titles. What do you all think about this in particular? Is there one or two that makes sense in your eyes?

Sorry :sweat_smile:ā€¦ but donā€™t worry, it will be real in 2 weeks! :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

I want to see more first person DRPGs available on Xbox because there are only like, 2 that come to mind (Undernauts and Stranger of Sword City, which are both the same dev). Iā€™ve started playing Mary Skelter Finale on Switch recently, still early on but it seems like a DRPG wet dream lol. You have 6 different parties spread into 3 different towers and you can swap on the fly and will have to do this to solve puzzles and open doorways for the other parties. Also itā€™s fucking balls to the wall hard (true DRPG experience lol)

I donā€™t think Xbox would bother with that series but their partners at Atlus have Etrian Odyssey which recently had a remastered release and is also a very high quality DRPG series.

The genre itself is super niche and even PS misses a number of releases though (even Etrian Odyssey Remastered). Itā€™s what first came to mind for obscure stuff.

I would be so happy if we finally get trails on Xbox. Iā€™ve been holding off on getting Reverie on PC in case it releases on Xbox lol.

Iā€™m still waiting for Ys 9 and Persona 5 Strikers. The Switch versions are trash.

You werenā€™t lying thatā€™s for sure.

Man the music during the section

Also Trails in the Sky seems unlikely, unless itā€™s PC only. The vanilla versions never received anything other than a PC or PSP release, did they? Or are they planned for Switch?

Do you all think that we could see more games from either Spike Chunsoft ,Marvelous or Level-5 within the showcase? Am kinda curious about this. I know that Xbox is building a bond with Spike Chunsoft and Marvelous, and we happened to get Ni No Kuni last year, so that got me interested about it.

Also, am pretty sure we could see CyberConnect2 announced that Fuga 3 is coming soon and will be available on Gamepass. Heck we might even see the other two projects of the Trilogy of Revenge(Tokyo Ogre Gate and Cecile) within the showcase as well.

I assume any Falcom games coming to Xbox would be ported by PH3 Games, who are the ones who worked with XSeed and now NISA on porting Falcom games to PC as well as Stadia (before it died lol) and Switch. (in the case of Sky, which were PC games already, they touched it up for modern PCs and added modern features). Although PH3 no longer has to develop Switch versions now that Falcom has taken up doing that internally themselves.

IF MS actually wanted that image to become real they -could- just work with XSeed and PH3 Games to get them (as well as Cold Steel 1 and 2) ported. XSeed at least already decently supports Xbox and has games in Game Pass unlike NISA currently lol.

I guess if only the NISA ones were happening then it would mean no Sky or CS 1 and 2. I donā€™t think it would be that difficult to work with PH3 and XSeed though. I also wonder how easy the ports would be, because PH3 did port 4 Falcom games to Stadia while still working on Switch and PC ports no problem and it did not seem to strain their resources.

For now I assume that Nick is correct about Ys VIII, so I do think it seems like Xbox will get NISAā€™s share of Falcom games. It really would be amazing to see the extra step be taken to get the full set for Trails though, I am always seeing JRPG fans portbegging for Trails in the Sky to come to console lol.

They are fantastic games. At least the first two. I canā€™t speak to the 3rd since I havenā€™t got around to playing it yet.

Level-5 is unlikely. I think the Ni No Kuni deal is Namco related.

Just doing a round-up

Arise DLC announced, is apparently around 20 hours long.

Eiyuden Chronicle has itā€™s long awaited release date. By the way I liked this shot in the trailer lol

Vanillaware is making a Tactical RPG and itā€™s coming to Xbox, there is a physical version and Special Edition also available, and pre-orders are already available

I need to work on the olā€™ RPG backlog. Any advice what to play next between the following:

  • Tales of Berseria
  • Tales of Zesteria
  • World of Final Fantasy
