I would say yes because that’s exactly what I did. I rated Final Fantasy VII Remake a 9.0/10. Love the combat system, story is good, characters are great, soundtrack is excellent, voice acting is really good and visually, looks great as well.
It all comes down to if you’re a “real time” combat gamer or “turn based” combat gamer. For me, im done with turn based and will always prefer real time action combat so the game was great for me. But at the same time, there’s a little turn based where you slow down time and select your spells and magic attacks but because you’re still in the heat of the battle, it doesn’t feel like it.
I’m super hyped for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth next year!!
As for Final Fantasy XVI, I rated it an 8.5/10. It’s a great game but it’s a disappointing Final Fantasy game because it’s more of a DMC style action game as opposed to being an RPG.
Do you think that Marvelous could possibly do to do a partnership of sorts with Xbox in the future? Kinda like how Sega, Atlus and Bandai Namco are doing recently.
I did not include Square Enix in the mix mostly cause am fairly certain that we could see a couple of their games being finally ported to Xbox on TGS.
Speaking of TGS, since we are one month away from it, which JRPG franchise do you all think that xbox could potentially reveal getting a port? I know Shin Megami Tensen and YS is two franchise many wish to see happen. The same for the likes of Mana and Atelier, even though is do a lesser extend.
Based on personal interest, i would enjoy seeing more content made by Spike Chunsoft and Level-5 being showed. Although i do not know if that is a possibility at the moment.
They should try to get those new Rune Factory games. I’m gonna guess that RF3 Special and RF5 did not come to Xbox/PS because of low interest of RF4 Special (though it finally entered both sub services very recently). But the new one from their showcase looks really good.
I think Xbox should try and negotiated a deal in which they can market their next few games like project Magia and Rune Factory 6 and try to make more fans for their newest titles and IP.
So with the announcement of the 360 store shutting down and being an achievement whore.
Decided to go and play some older jrpgs. Started with, phantasy star 2 as heard it was one of the best games for its time.
I will say this game is kinda nuts for its impenetrable wall. If it wasn’t for the internet I am unsure how you would play this without hours upon hours of trial and error.
Example is some of the tech it just 3 letters he’ll if I know what roi or whatever is until I use it.
Anyone here play it back in the day and if so how did you do it?!?!?
I tried to play this back in the 360 days for the same reason and even then it was too painfully old and clunky. I don’t even remember how far I got before tapping out and just reading a Let’s Play. Note that these LPs are like 15 years old so they might have some stuff that hasn’t aged great.
Can someone who has played Scarlet Nexus answer a question for me. The use of Adult as a proper noun feels off to me. Is it a bad translation for a slang term? Or is it meant to be a slang in the game world?
Slang in the game world as far as I know. Few are recruited into the OSF as an adult, and everyone is taking anti-aging drugs to suppress degeneration as their abilities fade with age. So it’s kind of derogatory I suppose. Most of the slang in this game is kinda corny though.
Yeah, I’m really liking it so far. I played a little bit back when it was on Game Pass but stopped for some reason, probably just got distracted. I like the pace in the dungeons/levels so far. I’m hoping they don’t get too long.
I tried playing this through Sega Channel back then and I was too young to know what I was even doing so I didn’t get far. I went back to it a couple years ago, got pretty close to the end and almost beat it but got side tracked by something else. I wanted to go back and complete it at some point but just haven’t yet.
To be honest though I actually really like the game lol. I love the 80s sci fi aesthetic, the utopian setting that crumbles and worsens over the course of the game, and just the interesting, different details that come with the sci fi setting like storing your memories into a memory bank being the way to save your game, or having to clone your dead characters at a cloning lab instead of reviving them at a church or inn like most games. With that said though, the huge problem is that the game didn’t age well. Back then it came with a walkthrough with maps and it feels like it goes over that line of being impossible to play without one since the game by itself hardly gives you any info on how to play or what you’re supposed to be doing.
As you said, you’re not really going to know what some of the Techs do until you actually use them. The dungeons are overly complicated, and they’re super easy to get lost in because it’s hard to make sense of where the portals lead since all the floors in a single dungeon can look very samey. In the beginning of the game you’re tasked with going to a biosystems lab to retrieve a recorder, but you wouldn’t know at all that there’s some things you need to do before you can even get there. The game also hints at you about the little “gimmicks” the characters have when they introduce themselves, but that’s something that could easily be mistaken for flavor text.
It’s an old game with a lot of flaws but at the same time I adore it.
Just bought Lost Odyssey because it’s on sale, and that i heard really great things about it. Side note have anyone know what the 1000 GS is like? True Achievements says it’s a 64-85 hour completion, so hopefully not too painful.
Another side note i also got Tales of Vesperia as well. I’ve never played a tales game before or a classic jrpg in general, so i’m looking forward to it. In hindsight i should of done some research into the series before buying the game.
On LO: IIRC you need to collect ever treasure, not just chest. Even non visible items.
It’s not hard, but I would definitely follow a guide if you want to do everything on a single run.
On ToV: On your first run I would try to get all missible events. There is a very simple guide I used few years ago.
To make the completion easier I would use magic lens on every monster.
Before or after the final you should grind for Grade. It makes your future runs much easier.
I think you need around 3 runs with planning.
Edit: forgot to add that you need to use a special move or whatever against almost every boss. You should definitely look it up because on your second run you will probably kill every boss in 1-2 hits.
Thank you very much for the advice, going to play a couple of hours of lost odyssey tonight so when i do i will definitely use a guide.
Thank you very much, if you don’t mind me asking how difficult is the game? The only jrpgs games i’ve played was Persona 4, 5 and Soul Hackers 2 so i’m some what new to the genre.
I’ll have to screenshot your post when I give ToV a try after Lost Odyssey.
Persona and Soul Hackers are turn-based while Tales of Vesperia is an action JRRG. I would even say Vesperia is easier than Persona. Just don’t forget to keep up with your level.
For the main game I only control Yuri the main character while playing on normal. Against special monster or even the end boss I would use Rita. There is an item in the game there let you spam skills without cool down.
And for the run itself I would go like this
Run: Get all boss specific achievement, use magic lens on everything and farm Grade. And use a side quest/event walkthrough. Highly missable. Grade farming should be done before or after the end boss. Set your difficulty to the max level and kill low level monster. Will take few hours.
Run: That’s your speedrun and mob up run. Get the best thing from the Grade shop. Finish the main quest in under 15h (very easy) and finish your Synthesis book, magic lens, clear the colosseum and everything else. That’s also the run in which you should use all the save points because it’s achievement related.
Run: The third run is just be under lvl 15 when you fight against a specific boss. Don’t worry too much.
Thought i would share considering what it delivers:
Seem like we are bound to receive some new games/ports.
Any potential JRPG series, outside of Shin Megami Tensen(Which lets face it, will be coming eventually thanks to the new form partnership between Atlus and Xbox regardless if its announced within the showcase or not), that could debut on the Xbox platform? I remember last year many being quite surprise by Ni No Kuni coming to Xbox.
Also which games, not frnachise, would make you be very happy that would finally be debuting for Xbox players to enjoy?
I think we could possibly see 13 Sentinels appearing alongside Ys, Mana, Atelier and maybe Disgae, but am more confident on the former but i could be wrong.
I would be shocked if by some chance we see something in the likes of an official Xbox Exclusive Jrpg being announced make by a Japanese studio.
