If you’re planning on playing both Zestiria and Berseria, may as well, do Zestiria first, Berseria is slightly connected to it.
So I guess I would do Zestiria → WOFF → Berseria.

Thanks, I’m just wrapping up Sea of Stars and have the RPG itch again.
I’ve just bought Blue dragon a couple of days ago. Looking forward to give it a go after i complete Lost Odyssey and Tales of Vesperia. and Persona 5 strikers and 13 Sentinels when it shadow drops into gamepass and xbox next week
@anon98342452 I would skip Zesteria. It’s probably the worst Tales game I’ve ever played. There is nothing that I like about this game. Calling it mid would be a lie.
Gonna need to clear some of my RPG backlog soon, i finished both Ni No Kuni games (Hoping for a sequel one day) alongside Elder Scrolls(In which i tried a no mod run, so i could get a bunch of achievements) and Tales of Arise(Great game), some advice would be nice as to which ones i should go to finish first:
. Valkyria Chronicles 4
. Lost Odyseey
. Octopath Traveler
. Persona 4 Golden
. World Of Final Fantasy
So am guessing we may gain acess to some of Vanillaware’s games once TGS Xbox starts. Which particular games are people guessing gets announced from this particular studio? For me am going for the safe option and say just 13 Sentinels.
Valkyria or Persona 4
Would start with the former because you played a lot of “classic” JRPGs already and the the latter if you are a GP subscriber. P4G could leave GP in January or February.
Ok thanks. And phew, makes me glad it was just part of some random bundle way back when!
I have taken a bit of a breather from JRPGs after having played Tales of Arise earlier this year. Currently playing Yakuza: Like a Dragon, and I really like it so far (Chapter 9).
I do want to get to around to playing Lost Odyssey sometime soon.
Good to note. Thanks for the tip. Am planing to finish VC4 first, then i think i will go give P4G a shot, since i did finish P5R a while ago last year.
Just 13 Sentinels would be the safe bet. The full Atlus set is 13 Sentinels, Odin Sphere, and Dragon’s Crown. The latter 2 aren’t even available on Switch so I’m not sure on those or not, porting 3 games could also be a resources issue, but they could just announce those 2 farther out.
Non-Atlus Vanillaware stuff is Grimgrimoire which is NIS published, IF Xbox gets NIS stuff then maybe that, though I played it on Switch earlier this year and it’s pretty meh lol.
Then there’s Muramasa Rebirth which is Marvelous published, but it’s still stuck on Vita. Vanillaware has said they would like to port it but there are “issues” (they didn’t explain). If they figure out the issues someday then hopefully Xbox is on the list since Marvelous is an Xbox supporter.
I’ll add in that I actually have not played Zestiria and Berseria was perfectly enjoyable without it. I suggested it because I knew about that relation between the game but if it’s as bad as @CryOn says then yeah skip lol.
Is it bad that i kinda wanna see TGS Xbox Showcase name drop that Penny Blood and Armed Fantasia are coming to Xbox Gamepass thanks to IDXbox. Cause that would be incredible, just like how it happened with Eiyuden Chronicles, that was revealed within the not E3 showcase of Xbox, which gained an audience within the Xbox community if i remember correctly.
Also if we do get NIS titles, outside Ys( Which am already guessing is having an appearance), which are the more probable titles or franchises that are more than likely to be shown within the showcase? Same thing with both Marvelous and Spike Chunsoft?
Am thinking Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin to be a very possible title drop alongside the likes of Rain Code being announced to be ported later in the year.
Why should it be bad ? Having it part of GPbincrease the reach and the developers are getting paid.
Besides Ys it could be Legend of Heroes and R-Type. I’m not a fan of Disgaea and Utawarerumono is probably too niche.
Would be cool to have Rune Factory 3 announced for Xbox. Or the new games which didn’t have any platform announced.
And the Spike situation is not good ? The last game they released on Xbox was a port in 2022.
Not to raise hope, but the whole Saga part shouldn’t be an actual sign since they have been in mobile hell…I mean haven for a while. I always assumed Romancing Saga 3 was the last one. Wasn’t aware of mobile games. Probably explain why those platforms were included.
Anyway, I believe the move within Japanese games for Xbox is going to accelerate more and more, especially with their recent hirings. The fact they didn’t tap out here or even last year is a good sign. It’s always been an uphill battle. It’s a steep one, but they will continue to climb.

Well I do know the franchise has been struggling and for their sake, they should hope the slowdown sign from Octopath 2 sales isn’t a bad indicator.
The reception on the SO2R demo is extremely positive, and it’s also not a full price release and is on Switch unlike past SO titles. I think it easily outdoes whatever SO6 did.
I think the best move for Star Ocean as well as Octopath would be to include both series within Gamepass as well as PSPlus, however i think on the former might wield higher results considering that its increasing in users day by day as well as being an market that has been focused more on diversity of genres as of late.
Well knowing Square, whatever expectation number they seek, they won’t get. At this rate, it feels like aside from FF, everyone is on suicide run. Either you do good or you die. Sales will ultimately matter. Definitely will have to rely on Japan since USA will be heavily busy with other titles.
With TGS tomorrow I hope to have lots of news to update this thread with!
With that said I guess I’ll just post another update on what I’m playing.
Still playing Sakura Wars 2 on Saturn, up to Chapter 8 out of 13 now. Tbh the Japanese in the game is surprisingly not that hard to read, I’m mainly just having a slow pace on it because of all the new games to play lol. I’m loving the game a ton though, much more than the first which was already great. And just listen to that soundtrack! Sega, -pleeeaaaaaase- save these amazing games from their retro prison someday!
Ys X coming next week and I have a Switch LE preordered. It’s coming from Amazon Japan who ship surprisingly fast so I shouldn’t have to wait too long after release.
And speaking of Falcom they are working on something that isn’t Ys or Trails which is refreshing to hear, but unfortunately it’s being speculated that it’s a Tokyo Xanadu sequel, which is a game I didn’t enjoy that much. Hopefully they do it better this time if so.

Oh, and I got a Crow from Trails of Cold Steel figure in the mail today after a long surface mail wait. Clearly, a good omen for tomorrow
NISA just announced The Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki for the West
Summer 2024 puts it at almost 3 years since the game launched in Japan in Fall 2021. Ridiculous.
However, this game means so much to me. It’s really something special. If you don’t mind buying exclusively not on Xbox JRPGs I really, really, -really- recommend this one.
Wait, their game is technically far back when it comes to releasing over here? What generation is this?
