JRPGs |OT| The Grind to Level 99 is Paved With Good Intentions

I’m not a massive JRPG fan, but I enjoyed NNK… Up to a point. Then it just all got too much, too slow, too familiar, and I’ve never gone back.

Well thats fucking shit. I was planniny to play in japanese because thr eng VA for a lot of the characters are awful.

Just played the demo and it was instantly distracting, I thought maybe I had some lag in my setup lol

Wtf would English be the default language for a JRPG

Been playing Etrian Odyssey 1 HD. As expected the JP copy I got doesn’t support English but it’s fine, I’ve been able to read the dialogue, complete side quests and properly build my characters.

I’m playing on Expert difficulty which is the original DS difficulty. I’ve now reached the 11th floor, almost halfway there :face_with_spiral_eyes:

And to comment on that FFXVI thing, I think it’s pretty funny that MS has the marketing to the Atlus lineup that mainly targets the JP market (but is global appealing) while Sony has the JRPG that is laser focused on the Western market.

Because SquareEnix… :man_shrugging:

Yeah its immersion breaking for sure.

However this game is set in old english times supposedly. Thats fine. Englihs lip sync is important. But lazy when youve had this much time and cant be bothered to change the lip sync. Especialy since SE said the game has been finished since last year.

Even more evidence for the “do not believe SquareEnix” camp.

I beat Etrian Odyssey 1 HD.

Pretty happy with myself as I played through it on Expert difficulty and the JP copy I have only supports Japanese text, another JRPG completed in Japanese, this time a seriously difficult one.

Now, on an unrelated note, I want to ask, do you like this artstyle

While I see lots of praise for it, I also see many saying it’s awful and they wish it didn’t catch on.

For me I do like it, the way the SO2 remake is doing it especially.

Im fine with it if its polished and fun. And has great story. Which we all know SO2 does. The first octopath had a boring cast of characters and story so thst style didnt clivk with me.

I think it looks good in octopath traveler 2. But I’m not sure I would want it for a chroni trigger remake.

i think the look works well in Octopath where everything is well thought out. SO2 on the other hand is just 2D pixel art sprites in a normal 3D game, it looks like a bad prototype.

Just finished Ni No Kuni 1. Didn’t aged very well. Replaying it after 10 years I have to say this game is kinda overrated.

Now in post game for achievements.

Big news. For the first time, I can finally “graduate” one of the series in the “JRPGs Not On Xbox” part of the OP.

The honor goes to drumrolllllllll

The Neptunia Series!

This is kinda nuts. Even in that post I said “Massive doubt on anything from this series ever hitting Xbox.” Is Team Xbox perhaps using this thread for research ?

This makes me more confident than ever before that we’ll see my wishlist of Trails, Ys, and Atelier come true.

One of the worst jrpg series around. Cant believe we got this trash before Ys or Trials Lol

So Vert herself comes to Xbox finally. I don’t think this will sell many copies, but it’s always good you bring it to a console which part of your plots and characters based on.

Man, I’d lose my shit if Falcom decided to port the Trails series to Xbox. I already have them on PS and the ones available on Switch. But I’d buy them again in a heartbeat just to support JRPGs on Xbox. Such a great series of games.

I hardly know anything about this series, and the vague negative feeling I have towards it is probably unfair. Still, great to have more selection! (And yes hopefully it’s a bellwether)

Got a little something today.

Falcom’s Tokyo Xanadu Switch release!

This game brings me back to my first non-OP post in this thread almost a year ago, I said I didn’t like this game that much. That’s still true lol. I’m likely not gonna replay it on Switch… However, the release was actually pretty cheap and the preorder bonus was a sexy as FUCK 4 disc soundtrack collection. Let’s take a look at it!

Yep, this soundtrack got a purchase out of me, lol! Falcom knows how to target my wallet.

Next Falcom release is Ys X in September and of course I’ll be getting the LE of that, can’t wait for that game!

Falcom seldom disappoints in the soundtrack department. I regularly listen to the Trails soundtracks when I exercise.
