The last thing can and probably is… Xbox Game Pass for PC…
Just give me NHL on PC again before I have to shank someone.
What’s with the negativity?
I reckon I’m asking a pretty legitimate question.
I don’t even sub to EA Access as it is. Mainly because there’s not much value to it. So not sure how something with minimal value adds any real value to Game Pass.
Everyone I know that play FIFA religiously doesn’t sub to EA Access. Why? Because they want the newest FIFA. Not last year’s.
I don’t sub to it because I don’t feel like spending money on EA Access…but it coming to gamepass is a big deal as I would use it. There’s a whole offseason for Madden that I can play it before the new ones comes out…but then I get other games that’s not sports as well. It’s a great value, I just don’t want to have multiple subscriptions. I’ll definitely be playing games on there so it’s a good value to me.
Value! That is the key here. Everyone sees their own value in what gamepass brings. For some, it is the first party titles or big AAA games. Others, it is the breadth of titles and being able to try many different games. One part that is missing in titles on gamepass is sports.
For what it is worth, FIFA is always a big seller, same as Madden. Having those titles, no matter day 1 or 6 months later brings in the sole sports fans who live and breathe it. That will be value to those consumers.
Value is determined by the customer. So, give more games across every genre to catch the eye. Show value and it will make the non hard-core gamers stop and consider it. When you line it up, i don’t think a gamer is going to ignore gamepass when it gives value.
I was responding to someone who said it would help them win next gen. Which it most certainly won’t.
My biggest fear is that this will go from being a hush hush cool if true rumour to everyone downright expects this to happen, just like the free online multiplayer rumour, then if it doesnt happen people get up in arms and yet more negativity
I miss the whole out of nowhere drop like xbox one backward compatibility back at E3 2013. No rumours no fanfare, just out of nowhere ‘this is happening’
Edit: I meant 2015 Goddammmit
There won’t be one thing that makes them “win” next Gen (whatever the fuck that means nowadays). It will help them though.
Do all ea games get put on ea play base version? Only 6-12 months after release?
If so I do think it’s a pretty big deal. That’s not really that long. If it allows me to play games like Star Wars squadron, the rumored mass effect remaster, new golf game, and the other plethora of ea games I’ll be pretty darn happy.
Gamepass just keeps getting better!
While subbing to EA Access I can get a 10% discount on the newest FIFA and play a 10 hour trial a week before launch. Throw in some Ultimate Team perks and I have nothing to complain about.
Not to mention the whole EA catalogue and the low annual price, of course.
You are ignoring other major titles that are part of the service. It isn’t just sports games.
And wrt the sports stuff itself, being able to market GPU as the home of EA Sports and not forcing gamers to fork over $70 a pop to play these games in aggregate is a huge deal. The fanbase for these games often doesn’t rush out to buy them day 1, so having them 6 months after release or whatever isn’t the issue you presume it is. Note that by your argument, EA Play has no reason to exist…yet EA’s accountants found it valuable. There is also the 10 hr trial for their games.
There is a LOT of marketing potential here for MS to lean into. Casual gamers get a sub-$300 box that looks great on their tv and with a few bucks a month you get to play your favorite EA Sports games, and hundreds of others. If ya prefer paying monthly, it’s sub-$30/mo with All Access. Play the games early, get 10 hr trials, perks, and Gold is included for free. Competing platforms make ya buy each game at $60-$70 a pop on top of PSN prices and ya don’t get any of these other perks, nor access to the GPU library. Ya have to buy everything. For casuals that MS wants to lock into GPU, this is HUGE.
It also opens the door for other major publishers to get on GPU if EA finds success there.
I had a sub for EA Access for years, cause it’s cheap and gives 10 hour trials of new EA games plus a discount if you want to buy them digitally.
I could see EA adding sports games 4-6 months after launch with the increasing amount of game pass subscribers because they could make a lot of money from micro transactions. After 4 months if you haven’t bought a sports game you most likely won’t be getting it but if the game goes free maybe you will spend some money in it
Nope the Xbox Game Pass 24month icon says "Xbox Game Pass for PC when I hover over it.
It will be great for marketing. I’m not sure how it will all work but MS can go out and say come play FIFA, Madden and Star Wars on Gamepass 365 days a year.
So even if Sony has the FIFA deal I assume MS can still market FIFA in Gamepass.
As I said earlier somehow getting new FIFA and Madden in xCloud would be huge as well but not sure if that will happen.
EA Access will change to EA Play tomorrow, right? Any chance we could get some news about this tomorrow?
I’d say it’s very likely.
Would be quite a monster get. EA Access is stagnating a bit, the price is excellent but it does seem like they have a hard time convincing new customers. If they figure out a favourable deal with Microsoft, that’s a win for everybody: Game Pass gets to boast titles like FIFA, Need For Speed or Battlefield, EA gets millions of new players in their games, increasing the chances of future buys, on top of the DLC/MTX money.
What’s the usual turn-around time for a new EA game being added to EA Play? If a new Battlefield were to come out tomorrow, how long would I have to wait for it to hit Gamepass, under this supposed deal?
