Jeff Grubb STRONGLY Hints @ EA Play coming to Game Pass

EA Play now contains two different things. EA Access is what’s available on Xbox One and PS4, it costs 25-30 bucks per year and it usually gets EA games about 6-8 months late, sometimes 10-12 if a game is particularly hot. In some rare cases like Rocket Arena recently, a game can get in practically immediately to boost player numbers.

Then there’s the higher tier on PC which allows you, for a higher pricepoint, to get all EA games day one on your service, not unlike how Microsoft is giving their first parties day one on Game Pass. If EA Access joins Game Pass, that means that a Battlefield coming out tomorrow would join the service next Spring, possibly next Summer. That is if they didn’t negotiate a deal for day one games on Game Pass, which would be enormous, but I doubt it given the magnitude of money needed for such a deal.

Dayum, that went ahead of time? :joy:

lmao it’s just the trial they do with the games, it’s more how they’re advertising EA Play on their twitter header wink wink.

Maybe an announcement today?

Maybe but don’t expect it, might get your hopes up haha.

Lmao, it would be awesome if we could get the Origin Access or whatever it’s called on Xbox the one where you get the full games like Game Pass. Not sure that would be added to Game Pass. Imagine if they said they’re merging Origin Access into Game Pass, now that would be crazy.

I’m just thirsty for any news lol. I’m just going for the basic one and I’d honestly be happy with that. If we got the Premier version, oooft! That would be insane!

With EA focusing alot on mtx I can see their games coming to ea access alot sooner just to make money off of ultimate team or battlefield battle passes

That is a good point. As more big franchises explore GaaS aspects, it makes GP that much more appealing to those publishers since they expect to take a hit on sales revenue for the title itself anyhow.

There’s gonna be Game Pass stuff at Gamescom… just saying

Makes sense. I had presumed they wanted to originally have Xboxing Day and Game Pass reveal and Halo MP in the same event so they can really drive home the value proposition. Since Xboxing Day is now pushed to September, there would be a gap of Xbox news that they should probably fill. Hot Chips helped, but only for tech heads. The broader audience needs some targeting now and something like EA Play free with GP just might dp that.

Who really gives a shit about EA play!!!

Microsoft/xbox needs to pull their finger out of their backdoor and make something happen!

TONS of ppl would care about EA Play. It’s almost 100 games for free outta the gate on GP just from EA. And there are early game trials too for titles prior to their launch. Huge deal imo.

All I’m saying is, it just isn’t good enough…

And that’s coming from a very passionate gamer!!

You really are just saying it isn’t targeting you.

Keep in mind, we aren’t talking about EA Sports here only. Also Star Wars games, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, TitanFall and tons of others. And you’d likely be able to play those games for 10 hrs prior to even their release! In some cases, ya can finish the entire game play through in that time!

But the question is… will it make average joe buy a xbox or sub to gamepass!

I mean when we are talking “average joes” and not passionate gamers on game forums, …yes I feel EA/Ubisoft/Activision are exactly the stuff they want on gamepass to attract those folks??? And are the most notable publishers not yet supporting the service. Getting any one of these would be tremendous and they are the bread and butter of the “average joe” not deals with sega or bandai namco or what have you.

It’s actually really weird we have reached this point, since I remember one of the more prominent arguments for why gamepass wouldn’t take off circa 2017/2018 was how most people would see no use for it cause they’d still have to buy madden, fifa, nba, cod etc etc. Sometimes I feel folks are too caught up looking for the next megaton wow moment gamepass addition or what will usher in the “next phase” of the service that they forget gamepass has gotten where it has via steady growth that hasn’t always been glamorous for the hardcore.

I think it will. Ya gotta remember the value proposition on offer for the more casual audiences. Spend $300 or less to get XSS and get GPU free for 1-3 months maybe, and ya walk outta the store with hundreds of games to play immediately. No need to buy Gold even.

If customer opts to do Xbox All Access, they can do maybe $25/mo and get all that too.

For hardcore gamers, we get the most powerful box in XSX for $500 or so. Most of us already have GPU and if not, it’s an insane value so forking over another $15/mo to get hundreds of games is huge. Xbox All Access can be around $35/mo, if the hardcore gamer prefers that route.

I really do think the value prop here from a day 1 pov is radically better than ppl realize for all audiences. Sure, we dunno if the launch lineup will rock the boat for Xbox, but honestly it ain’t all that special for PS5 either (Spiderman and Kena are solid though). But hey, Xbox gets The Medium, Ascent and various other smaller titles too. Maybe even a Halo MP beta to boot.
