Jason Schreier: Sony’s Obsession With Blockbusters Is Stirring Unrest Within PlayStation Empire

I find it really hard to gauge Sony sales on anything. Think we need to take their word on it. Their games often only reach big sales figures after being tied to systems, a long time on sale and massive discounting. As opposed to Nintendo games for example.

They also outspend everyone else put together on marketing. Only they really know how much of a game actually makes after all that is taken into consideration.

So it sold more then guns of satsuma and Horizon Zero Dawn and Sony doesn’t talk about its sales and doesn’t green light a sequel? Unlikely.

When Sony does not speak, it’s obvious that is not a landmark success, when they even drop the sequel, what other answers are we seeking for? XD

Sony doesn’t talk about Days Gone because of the 70 or so MC score which they care about as much if not more than actual sales numbers. Listen to Chris Grannel on the Iron Lords Podcast this past Sunday. He was at Sony Liverpool for like 13 years and he mentions a lot of very interesting shit including that even back then (late PS2/early PS3 days), that Sony cared about the MC score even putting a low “70” on their games back then.

I personally see caring more about the MC scores over monetary gain as fucking weird but im not Jim Ryan or Sony. Plus, im pretty sure that Ryan was in charge of Liverpool, etc. back then so I can definitely see why the same thing is happening now.

Benji-Sales said that the game is closer to 10m. Spider Man 2018, TLOU/TLOUR, Uncharted 4, God of War and Horizon. It was 6th best selling PS4 exclusive as of September 2019 in NA via the NPD.

18 months later, Days Gone is definitely a bigger seller than people think. But Ryan wants those 90+ critically acclaimed games. Sadly, that wasn’t Days Gone.

Believe what you will but it was already documented over a year ago that Days Gone was one of the best selling PS4 exclusives and is now ahead of cult favorite Bloodborne.

Sony doesn’t reveal numbers unless they’re very impressive AND has the MC score to match. Notice how they haven’t given an update to TLOUP2 since the launch weekend? It’s because the game has no legs and a lot of people returned it.

Days Gone sold like 4-6 million if anything. If it was doing double digits and Sony axed it they are lunatics which they arent.

I personally see caring more about the MC scores over monetary gain as fucking weird but im not Jim Ryan or Sony.

I think its more likely that a 71 meta isn’t a good starting point for a franchise when all of Sonys sequels decline in metascore.

I would also point out Death Stranding is 1 metapoint from Guns of Satsuma and DREAMS has a significantly higher score. Wheres that sales data?

Source?

Days Gone is definitely a bigger seller than people think

I disagree. I think its far less than what we think.

That’s bullshit. They were keen to talk about how many copies Spider-man sold in 3 days…which means they knew Days Gone, Death Stranding and Dreams (among others, Concrete Genie, Predator Hunting Grounds ETC.) weren’t worth mentioning after a few days of sales.

so more news, TLOU remake and why ND to make it ? to keep their people busy and get used to PS5 hardware while small team in preproduction figuring the next game

They are making Tlou Remake because they have nothing else to do? This seems more like a problem with their pipeline and not a solution.

so that’s basically the crux of the article

surefire hit or back to the drawing board

I cant believe this lmaooo

ND has one cook and 500 waiters…

(this is a hot take, don’t take it seriously pls)

What the heck. Like what?!

This cannot be true at all.

nah i don’t think only reason i think it’s marketing strategy with the HBO show. also is it bad if part of studio wanted to work on the remake ?

i mean they don’t have anything to work on, this is normal in industry after shipping a game, not all staff needed for pre production next game(probably tlou 3) they have around 500 devs

Yeah. How is your obvious #1 priority not “Prepare the sequel”?

depends on the amount of devs in studio they have around 500, so not all of them will be working on pre production stuff their next game

Yeah they don’t need to go all into pre-production, but working on 2 tlou games is a bit much, Sony really gunning for that blockbuster money.

Ratchet will not sell 5 milion, it has taken the 2016 game 5 complete years to reach that. Rift Apart will be lucky to get to 3 million.

imo tlou remake is marketing move with hbo show also i expect this remake will be on PC, also their devs will be more knowledgeable about PS5 hardware when the time comes for tlou 3 full production or whatever their next game because of their work on remake for PS5.

at this point i fail to see how is this bad or terrible and i’m not even fan of their games (i don’t like them)

I still dont understand how TLOU turned into a Saga
