That’s certainly plausible, sure.
As a gamer that’s just sounds boring.
Just sequels to the same games a last generation, if they’re really doing this, Xbox and Nintendo are going to eat them up (market share) through the gen.
Minecraft at 200 million. It sells 20 million a year.
20 million is the starting point for their games now.
PS5 exclusives will struggle to top 5 million for 3 years. The install base is too small and $70 will reduce the amount of people willing to buy the game day 1.
Where you got days gone numbers?
Wiki section about Days Gone sales numbers shows the following, which reads to me like substantially over 500K unit sales:
Despite mixed reviews, Days Gone was the best selling physical game in the United Kingdom in the week of release.[23] It went on to be the best-selling software release in all the format sales charts for three consecutive weeks.[24][25] Days Gone would also debut at the number one position in the retail charts in Switzerland, where it remain there for three consecutive weeks.[26][27][28]
In Japan, Days Gone outsold two other PlayStation 4 exclusive games at launch, God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn .[29] It went on to surpass the lifetime sales of God of War and another exclusive PlayStation 4 game, The Last Guardian .[30] In its first three days after launch, it sold approximately 114,319 physical units.[31]
In North America, Days Gone was the second best selling video game software for the month of April, behind Mortal Kombat 11 . This marks Days Gone as the 7th highest debut in sales for a Sony-published title, and the best selling game developed by Bend Studio.[32]
Days Gone proceeded to become the second best-selling video game software in North America for April 2019. By June 2019, it was the eighth best-selling video game of the year.[33] It was the 19th best-selling game of 2019 in the US.[34]
According to game director Jeff Ross, Days Gone sold more copies than all of Bend Studio’s previous games combined.[35]
I agree, 500K is an incredibly low prediction regarding that game.
So not even Days Gone is a flop, but SIE won’t make a sequel.
Good article by Jeff Grubb.
Great read, that’s a good summary by Jeff of the situation Sony are finding themselves in, and the perceptions that can be formed by fans and casuals alike.
Not on Xbox probably, but apparently it’s selling gangbusters on Steam.
all of these doom and gloom by sony folks and sony centric news channel is quite funny. man xbox had it worse.
Jim Ryan is fine, i will say he is good business man and there is reason why he is the head of PlayStation.
from business standpoint i can’t see any big flaw in PlayStation next business plans.
worth to note: sony can’t answer gp if xbox started to make deals with 3p to release games day and date
when sony try to make a deal day and date with AAA publisher for their gp serivce then it will be more expensive to them than xbox, because of bigger install base publishers will ask for more( it’s quite funny it’s the same for xbox when they try to get timed exclusive game from AAA publisher)
if they want answer gp then they need full company backing the service
what will likely to happen in next two years they will bundle their anime services and their first party games will be day and date on one sub model( so anime + games+ PS Plus) maybe manga too ? lol who knows
I have yet to be convinced whether he is any good or not in my opinion. As far as I am aware, he got the job because how the PS4 preformed in Europe, which to be honest is not massively impressive when you consider that Nintendo and Xbox basically forfeited from the race until a couple of years into the gen.
In regards to what appears to be his strategy, it seems to be doubling down on positioning PlayStation as the place to be for the blockbusters. The only problem is that this gen PlayStation is facing much sterner competition, you already see this in Japan where the Switch has been an absolute monster, and if Game Pass does become a major disruptor then it is going to be a massive issue for PlayStation to deal with.
I mean they will still sell a crap ton of units and be absolutely fine, but I don’t think the business will grow and in fact will shrink to a degree unless Sony finds a way to extract more money out of their user base.
tbh we still early in gen so i will give him 3 years and see if his actions are good or nah for the brand.
I agree. He may be good, or he may not be, only time will tell. What I can say is that he doesn’t pass the smell test lol, something does seem off with him.
Please don’t discount thought-provoking and culture-defining products such as The Kissing Booth, Emily in Paris, and To All The Boys

Bend Studio’s Days Gone sold closer to 10m copies and is the 5th or so best selling PS4 exclusive. Bend Studio creating and developing a new IP is far more expensive and far more riskier than a sequel to Days Gone.
I have seen two different numbers for days gone sales today. Which one should I believe
And how is 10 millions a small number for Sony to declare Days Gone a no succes! I think this 10 million number is not accurate.
