pretty much what I believe as well. Is there even points in the story/lore where abolishing the very concept of Mantle has been discussed by anyone? Cuz I think it’s not a model that’s not something necessary to preserve at all costs.

Humans don’t care about the mantle, they mostly try so survive and/or reverse engineer Forerunner tech. The same as other species. The only ones were the Prophets and some zealout Elite or Brute in the books.

It’s not a retcon if they can explain properly. I mean, it’s sensible there were more than a couple of advanced races during millions of years in the galaxy, no? Also, the other alternative were the Precursors (and they still can be), who have a name a little too similar imo for average Joe, it would be confusing.

The true ancient primordial evil was the Flood. But then it was the Didact. Then the Promethians who were Forerunners who turned themselves into Robots. Then the Guardians + The Created which was now the new threat to the galaxy led by Cortana.

nothing about The Endless right now says they’re evil in any way though. Literally all that’s been told is they survived the ring firing, that’s all, and maaaaaaybe have some time manipulation powers if we stretch some language used in the legendary ending. Their imprisonment was based on Forerunners scrambling to figure out how someone could survive the firing of the rings, hence had to contain them and study them, because what was more dangerous to Forerunners wasn’t flood surviving the halos, but food for the flood surviving them.

Does that extend to the entire Endless? Probably not, but they seem to have a bone to pick with the Forerunner and it’s probably gonna be really easy to turn that rage onto Humanity, Forerunner’s #1 favorite pet.

really? I didn’t get any impression she was malicious. She could have easily killed Chief in the first encounter yet she clearly says “you are not the enemy” even talking in general reference to Humanity.

that is definitely possible, as audio logs did explicitly reveal Harbinger having some sense of contempt for humanity as essentially “a Forerunner instrument”. It’s not hate, just “ahh you’re just this cute thing in the way”. Harbinger as the name suggests, she is just there to bring forth the big thing, and that’s by releasing a species that will probably be part precursor or a descendant and true Mantle holders or whatever.
