I haven’t seen much about the new R&C game yet so I can’t comment on that, but those bits in Titanfall 2 and Dishonored 2 were so cool!
Yep both are such cool levels and both amazing games to be honest. Level design in both Titanfall 2 and Dishonored 2 is god-tier.
The result is functionally the same, but the old way resulted in significant concessions in memory use which has whatever impact that has (presumably less complex, detailed environment).
The changing of worlds on the fly in R&C is WAY MORE IMPRESSIVE than either Titanfall 2 because it’s throughout the entire game as opposed to one segment.
R&C IS current gen. Don’t see how anyone could NOT see this?!?!?! SMH.
Two more days!!! Whooo!!! HYPED!!!
I guess you are talking about me, you can quote me it’s OK! apparently I am the one that makes you shake your head.
The changing of the worlds is (again as I said from what I’ve read) pre-determined/scripted and not whenever you want and yeah changing levels on the fly in not one but two 2017 Xbox One games with a slow ass mechanical drive is somewhat dampened my enthusiasm/excitement (without caps) about what Rift Apart is doing, especially since you CAN’T change levels whenever you want in R&C like in those “old & dirty” last gen games in the Effect & Cause/A Crack in the Slab “inspired” level.
I guess that you will post detailed impressions about this topic since you are planning to play the game and tell us exactly why it’s way more impressive and what changing worlds throughout the game adds besides the visual gimmick. Can’t wait to read your impressions.
More than just you, I meant in general which is why I didn’t quote you. Titanfall 2 was cool but it was in a short linear corridor hallway that ended too soon in my opinion where as in Ratchet, it’s done on a far bigger scale and for the entire duration of the game.
I understand them being preset/scripted but at the same time, outside of those that are that way due to the story, you can avoid using majority of them if you so choose. It’s more up to the player. Also, not everything is setup as a Rift. There’s crystals that you hit to change the world. In one planet that’s dead, you hit the crystal to make it alive. But you can explore the surrounding area beforehand.
Yeah, I have it pre-ordered and will pick it up on Friday. Since both PS5 and XSX launched in November, Ratchet is easily and by far the most impressive game I have seen and more importantly, it uses some of the tech inside the PS5 where as all the tech that Microsoft has hyped up for over a year has basically been minimal to non-existent and Microsoft themselves have had nothing outside of Gears Tactics and that didn’t do anything special at all.
I’m hoping Halo Infinite has Ray Tracing and other stuff in it. If all it has is a grappling hook, im sorry but that doesn’t impress me because if people say that Ratchet is just more of the same, then you can add in Halo, Gears and vast majority of games out there. At least Ratchet is trying to do something different and is done as I previously said on a much larger scale and for the entire game.
I only played Ratchet 2016 just over a year ago and it was the first game in the franchise I played and I loved it despite it being an E rated game which I rarely if ever play and while the basics remain the same, it’s the rest of the game that you can see shines and at the end of the day, is it a great or better game? I’m personally expecting an excellent 9.0/10 for me but if it’s not, I will say so.
With that all said, I don’t see Ratchet as being revolutionary or anything like that. In fact, I think “revolutionary” in a game hasn’t happened since the original Halo and before that, SM64 and Zelda OOT. I simply see games now as what they’ve previously been but way better in every aspect.
And yes, I will definitely post my impressions at some point this weekend.
Just try to keep it tight. Like…peter tight
Under 50 paragraphs
Okay, man. I will keep it under 50 pages!!!
I think your passion is very charming.
Hahaha. Thanks.
I have passion for Xbox too. It’s just that I normally keep my expectations for them low to medium because the tend to disappoint me more than not. I figure that eventually they have to hit for me on a consistent basis. Or at least I hope they will.
It doesn’t matter to me what you’re passionate about, I just like the energy! I hope that Microsoft can put together something that makes you as excited as this new Ratchet and Clank game
Thanks.
I hope so too!! If they do, I will definitely say so but the games that im most hyped for are highly unlikely to be at their showcase Sunday. Maybe a surprise reveal or something excites me. Either way, I will be watching.
Indeed a similar experience could be done on the PS4. The new ratchet has obvious improvements in visuals, but I dont feel compelled to buy it when Rachet 2016 is on my PS5.
This has probably has more to do with game design then hardware caperbility. Gameplay innovation will be easier in some genres over others.
- R&C PS5 simply cannot be accomplished on crossgen.
- God of War is crossgen because of the pandemic and needing more PS4 sales
- GT7 is nothing special - Forza has it beat
Rift apart could be cross gen with some alterations and I dont think it would be a radically worse game because of it, the only "next gen thing gameplay wise is the fast loading of different environments.
Sony said god of war and GT7 are cross gen because it makes business sense and thers like 115million ps4 install base.
The thing that makes me laugh in ratchet and clank is the voidrift (teleport) thing is totally scripted and hand placed. Either the SSD is still not enough to enable unscripted teleporting (thus pre-scripted so they can preload assets) or the game was made with a much slower drive in mind (and is coming to PC).
Think about that for a second. We’re launching a SP only Halo 6 for Series XS and PC.
IT doesn’t work. People who think it does are delusional High end gamers who think world revolves around them. I have a Series X. But I know millions of people that don’t.
Also who why does having an xbox one version hurt the series X? people still haven’t told me this yet. They can work on the series X version with a different team trying to polish it. The xbox one version can come out and be a solid 900p lower res looking shooter that loads longer.
That level of teleporting was always for show.
I’m not guessing. We know they aren’t giving the SP away free and we know the MP is F2P. So they are split skus. Not sure why it matters how many have an XSX right now…Halo could sell systems and lock down gamers even while they wait for supply to show up. Besides, sw sales on X1 family is super low as of now anyhow. I say let those gamers play the game via xCloud on their console, imho.
Having it be next gen only would have allowed the team to actually design the art pipeline around the new tech. Ppl radically underestimate how big of a difference that makes in how games look. It is THE reason next gen games look way ahead of cross gen titles every cycle. It’s why PC games typically do not look way better than early new gen games visually despite having better tech. The art pipeline changes make ALL the difference and that is only possible with a next gen only project.
It is also possible that giving complete control of the teleport did not make sense for the game design. Its a relatively linear action platformer, not a puzzle game like Portal.
