God of War Ragnarok and Gran Turismo 7 confirmed as cross-gen, both coming in 2022

I just wanted to say that while I really dont care much for god of war etc, gran turismo 7 being stuck to jaguar-level cpu physics is a genuine disappointment for me.

Physics in gts already are obsolete for a sim, and the fact that ps5 and ps4 will race together online simply disqualifies any chance that on ps5 the physics will be any different than ps4/gts level.

I saw Chris Esaki the week before announcing that they have a 48X increase in physics fidelity (calculations) for forza motorsport, so the news about gt7 really were a downer for me.

pity

I prefer current gen games as they have the potential to be better then cross gen, but the main issue with is sony being dishonest with there communication.

DF talking about crossgen. Seems like a funeral when talking about crossgen.

Lol. I am not surprised because they were disappointed last year with Microsoft and obviously were praising Sony’s approach from what I can recall.

What I will say is that if both console manufacturers are largely following the same approach, then it obviously says a lot and that is making big AAA games does not come cheap and that comes with consequences.

its a bit disappointing seeing the guys from Digital Foundry beeing this naive. Both consoles are binary compatible to their predecessors to an unprecedented level. And they expected both manufacturers to not exploit this? lol

They are tech enthusiasts, so they are obviously going to want to see games really take advantage of the new consoles. I also would think that they were hoodwinked by Jim Ryan about believing in generations and have realised that it was all marketing.

This generation is the first generation in which Sony has had cross-gen games but thankfully, they’re still having full PlayStation 5 exclusives including this Friday with Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Oh man, can’t wait to play it!!!

Back to cross-gen, Microsoft will probably end it before Sony does on a permanent basis which is perfectly fine by me.

If Digital Foundry isn’t happy about Sony doing cross-gen games then that makes me happy because at least they’re being even with both companies. Glad that they aren’t praising Sony after bashing Microsoft.

They do sound very naive and slightly fanboyish. For business reason MS has do crossgen because there is just not enough nextgen consoles in the hands of consumers but Sony will magically be able to make that financially work?

Don’t blame them, blame Sony. DF, and people in general, just assumed Sony was telling the truth, as anyone in its right mind would do ! “We believe in generations” is a pretty clear statement. It’s not your fault if you believed it, even if it didn’t make much sense.

Sony always had this strategy of “generation” and “letting the past die” (kinda) until now, so it wasn’t so outlandish to think it would be the same with the PS5. And they really played their cards well, as they still have some next-gen exclusive titles with Demon Souls, Returnal and Ratchet and Clank. But pursuing that with games that far in the gen is really weird and disappointing. So yeah, they played us like a damn fiddle ! But again, if you believed it, you’re not dumb or naive, you’re just a normal person !

I think it’s really stupid for Sony to go that way. I know they had already done worse than that, but they destroyed some of that goodwill they got from last-gen. It’s really a short-sighted strategy. Let’s see if it pays off in the long-term.

The gaming media is very biased towards Sony. I firmly believe that if games like Returnal were released as Xbox exclusives or multiplatform, it would have scored similar to games like Recore. It seems like every Sony exclusive gets reviewed on a curve.

It’s amazing how we went from “Sony’s decision to move to next gen is great for the gaming” to “Well, you don’t expect them to ignore 100 million PS4s, do you?”

It’s like Sony can do no wrong.

they will grasp at any opportunity to take a jab at xbox, this time it blew back in their face, hopefully xbox keeps being honest and working on their weaknesses such that the competition has no choice but to actually spend time concentrating on themselves. Then again, xbox took shots at playstation for not having full rdna 2

Yeah well see in 2 to 3 years.

These games are being developed on older hardware first.

Whoever said halo infinite should be series xs only is hilarious.

Yeah let’s make a predominantly multiplayer game a next gen only for a userbase of about 5 million.

I don’t believe it will score much lower. But being multiplat people wouldn’t be a glowing.

I’ve been one of the biggest anti Sony guys on here and their decisions and media bias. But this isn’t one of them.

Media is biased towards Sony because they have nostalgia and are up naughty dogs rear. But you can’t blame Sony for this next gen decision.

No one is blaming Sony for the decision, just properly blaming them for blatantly lying from the start.

The MP mode is a separate sku in Halo…

Literally no one said that the message was very crystal clear from beginning.

I find it funny that some people are pissed off that they are not seeing “next gen features” in their cross gen games when we don’t actually know what that even means in practice. I guess some people expect to see the promises of ideal scenarios from this magical PS5 SSD from Cerny come to life in a 1st year release…which is crazy.

After reading some reviews and seeing the DF video from Rift Apart I still don’t get why this game being a PS5 exclusive was a big deal other than satisfying the bragging “need” for a true next gen exclusive from the PS fans, from what I’ve seen the yellow portals are pre-determined blink-like teleports and the changing levels on the fly gimmick is something like Titanfall 2’s Effect and Cause & Dishonored 2’s A Crack in the Slab but even that is only available again in pre-determined spots by hitting some crystals…I guess not enough people played the former games/levels so this whole thing must be “next gen” to them.

I believe many PlayStation fans enshrine exclusivity above game quality. I see plenty of them bragging about trash like Destruction All Stars for no other reason then it’s next gen only.

Sadly many of them spent 6 months dissing Xboxs reasonable cross gen plans then another 4 months claiming Miles Morales and HFW “looked a clear step up” when now they’re the only cross gen games not to run at 60fps by default. And then have it happen again with GT7.

Sony made their fans look like fools for basically no reason.

There are two ways to accomplish an effect like that. One is to keep all of the required data in memory, the other is so load it as needed. Loading it as you need it allows you to use more of the memory on what is being displayed on the screen and is only possible with fast I/O.

Yeah it differs in how it is achieved but the result is the same and in some ways gameplay wise less impressive than the “simpler way” aka changing levels whenever you want by pressing a button versus changing levels by interacting with an item at certain spots.

What I see is that top notch graphics/presentation, scripted cinematic moments (as this R&C supposedly has more Naughty Dog like “set-pieces”) and decent if somewhat safe gameplay is the recipe for getting great scores. If you are a Sony 1st party game you also dodge the criticism of “where is my innovation”, “we have already played that, it’s getting stale” so it’s even easier to hit 85+% on MC.
