Games Analysis |OT| Time To Argue About Pixels And Frames!

People take it at face value. If they thought the opposite they would have said it straight. Such comment has not its place in such a video. They know lots of people watch their videos. So useless comment from them.

I used to watch their vids for technical in depth details not for bs ramblings of console warriors twitter cesspool.

Lol. It’s just so silly to think about. Like anyone would make their purchasing decision based on NPC pedestrian density.

Of course, if pedestrian density was labeled as the PlayStation Advantage™, it would suddenly become the most important performance metric of the generation.

 I can clearly imagine it like when they advertised Spiderman only on PS copies of Marvel Avengers.

It’s so sad that this is not hyperbole. It totally would.

Wouldn’t the density just be because the x1x had more npc density then the pro? Or is this only when used on a series x/s

In media and show business - words are everything.

The way DF said it, there is no denying that they were trying to put the marketing deal as the factor behind it.

The worst thing is that DF slips there tunge only when it comes to Xbox. John asked to uninstall the game as soon as it starts running good on XSX and now richard.

Meanwhile, Sony had marketing rights to COD Black ops. Will richard agree that Sony paid Activision to make game perform better on PS5? I know that’s not the case but why not speculate things when it comes to Sony?

My takeaway is that DF are probably right that Microsoft’s marketing deal enabled them to get extra features on the Series consoles. However, it is not as malicious as it sounds. It is clear that CDPR put very little effort into the next-gen versions, because they are literally just running in back compat mode and only have the frame rate limit lifted and have said the next-gen versions are coming out later. At the end of the day, CDPR just wanted to get the game out and that’s it. The rumour is that Microsoft provided support to CDPR via their technology team and so Microsoft merely provided support to improve the Series version. They are not going to spend money to improve the PS5 version are they?

Having said all that, it is still merely assumptions and DF should stick to facts, because what they said is only going to add fuel to the fire of fanboyism in which they are quick enough to complain about.

Keep winning Series S… put all them doubters to shame. You’re the little Engine that CAN!

Pretty disappointed with DF analysis videos and hot takes this gen, firstly saying that PS5 backwards compatibility was better than XSX, despite XSX running at higher res and having all generations support and now this.

Then I saw John’s comments of hoping Xbox never entered the console space; sorry I don’t care how angry you are, you just don’t make those comments, especially written ones and not some verbal spur of the moment thing, it just strikes as being a comment made by a fanboy and it just hard to expect him to be neutral in his videos. And then going on about deleting Valhalla, it just puts me off DF’s videos. I guess I’ll just stick to the tech analysis videos.

Hopefully we can get more knowledgeable people doing analysis like this, so we can compare results and don’t have to solely rely on digital foundry.

I mean you are honestly taking a lot of stuff out of context there.

I think that’s a fairly disingenuous thing to do.

  1. They were talking the framerate boosts and stability on Bc stuff which is just a fact. They did contextualise it.

  2. Was in reference to the DRM in 2013 and John is a physical games man. He hates a digital future. Even if he had an innate dislike of Xbox so what? He’s allowed to. I don’t see people complaining about the verge or WC who obviously prefer Xbox or PC.

  3. He deleted Valhalla because he doesn’t enjoy Ubisoft open world games. The fact a few crazy people made out it had something to do with a patch improving performance on Xbox shows how truly crazy these folks are. He has never enjoyed these games generally,

I’m not some huge John Linneman fan I just find this Chinese whispers online nonsense and over the top reactions to a DF video really really depressing. Digital Foundry just report what they see. If you don’t like that then it’s fine. Even if they said every time that they prefer PS - they can do that. Don’t give them clicks and don’t watch their videos if that bothers you. It’s how capitalism works.

  1. They were talking about framerates but they made it out to be ps5 was way better when it was just a few fps drops at way higher resolution on Xbox, it is very subjective as to what people would prefer 4-5 frames or 1080vs1600p or whatever. They just swept over Xbox’s advantage and kept lauding 60fps on ps5 which is only possible on very select games too.

  2. Well, he is going to hate the next 10-20 years then. Why make your dislike so apparent, when the content you produce is held to very high standard when it comes to being objective. No one cares if WC is biased because they’re coverage is solely based on Xbox, I don’t know what you are getting to at here.

DF to generally report what they see, but now you to get them trying to insinuate Xbox’s marketing deal led to the game being better on Xbox and you can see why people are upset. Oh, and I already said in my previous comment that I’m going to limit myself to tech analysis videos. :+1:

Yeah, they kinda ruined their rep with me at least. I won’t watch or read their stuff anymore. I was only interested in the unbiased content, something I am now not sure about so I lost interest completely.

They didn’t insinuate that. They merely stated that it’s likely CDPR worked more on the Xbox version. Which they seemingly did. Honestly if you want to look at bias you can extrapolate it in every article, every video. But it’s not healthy. It’s video games. When DF were flying out to Redmond - the PS fans were screaming how biased DF were. They had months of being called MS shills or whatever.

It’s all to me quite embarrassing. These are a group of tech minded middle aged men who love gaming and have made a business out of analysis of technical aspects of games. The amount of energy people spend arguing about their so called bias is crazy. It’s starting to become silly to the point of outright stupidity. They don’t have to be neutral if they choose not to. They can be objective whilst preferring one system over another. But ultimately it’s video games. It’s industry. It’s not massively critical and yet comments are taken wildly out of context and passed around as though the people making them are huge oracles of wisdom. They are filming these videos at a pace. They say stuff, it’s taken out of context cropped up and suddenly becomes fact. That aspect of our digital society bothers me more than any other. Because people are doing the same things for stuff that does matter like climate, medicines, politics and disease…

Personally I like watching DF for their in-depth technical analysis.

Anything else they say or add that is not factual or is unproven (be it in favor/against of one or the other) is really doing a disservice to themselves and only helps flame the console war rhetoric.

To even suggest that the Xbox version of Cyberpunk has more crowd density because of the marketing deal is absurd. They said - “I guess maybe there was some compunction (feeling of guilt) to do something a little bit extra for that machine”. - Yea no. That’s not how things work. If they’re going to add conspiracy theories to their videos then I’m out.

They have done something extra. The reason for that is open to speculation. But the Xbox version has two modes, the PS5 one. The Xbox has higher settings, and is definitely more bespoke.

I personally think the main reason for some of that is down to the fact MS had a marketing deal for the game and supported CDPR in their development on the series X. Some of it is down to how PS5 handles BC BUT that doesn’t explain everything since all versions are more than simple BC ports and therefore all of them involve more than BC.

I’m not really sure it’s even a controversial statement. But regardless it’s certainly not worthy of the ridiculousness it attracts on social media. Grown adults so earnestly writing about bias as though their perception is pure.

There is nothing to stop Sony from sending their vaunted ICE team to Poland

I am not quite sure what the problem is with MS helping them out.

Who is saying there is anything wrong with this?

The line was utter and complete unfounded nonsense from DF.

Not you, but some on the NET are seemingly bothered, thinking that the Xbox got preferential treatment.

It’s not black and white, I still respect DF for their work but I can understand and agree that this statement was so weird and out of character especially coming from Richard. Richard was always saying how the games should run better on the best hardware and this is the way it should be for sure, yet instead of saying that the best hardware got the best version or praise the more flexible nature of the backwards compatibility on Xbox he instead “blamed” the differences to CDPR feeling guilty and doing something extra for Xbox, that was poorly worded to put it lightly.

Also this comparison was somewhat of a poor one I’d say…no direct comparisons to see how the texture quality, shadow quality, AF, character models, SSR quality compare between the two. When a smaller channel like ElAnalistaDeBits does a better job than DF you know something is not right.
