Games Analysis |OT| Time To Argue About Pixels And Frames!

Nice.

I’ll go check that out, been a while. Curious about the AA, it wasn’t that great on One X, was visible for sure.

Difference between the two systems is a bit big, no?

Many here talk about 60 frames per second. Do you really believe that Hellblade 2 with such amazing graphics is capable of running at 60fps?

Perhaps there will be some kind of regime, although I doubt it, but we’ll see

Nah, optional 60fps is definitely here to stay.

About damn time. I’ve been waiting for this since the new systems launched.

Shame that it seems like they are using the cross gen tools instead of a full fledge current gen update. Also the PS5 update looks to be lacking and shows how little effort they are putting in this update overall. Still, it’s better than nothing.

PS5 does not have the native version of the game, so that’s the best they can do at this point.

The cross gen tools for both systems allow devs to adjust resolutions. We don’t know this is the best they could do if the team was given appropriate time and resources. At the end of the day, the update can still be disappointing when other cross gen updates have done more.

Are there BC PS4 games on PS5 that do 4k? Because I have always thought that PS4 BC is locked to PS4 Pro performance and cannot go higher - so if 4K performance is not that great for PUBG, they went with lower resolution.

Yes it is. It’s all interconnected.

Yes there are enhanced BC games on the PS5 that have different resolutions for the cross gen update. Shadow of the Tomb Raider is a higher resolution on the PS5 over the PS4 for example even though it’s not a native PS5 game.

Thinking about it more, I also don’t understand why the XSS version doesn’t get the TAA option. There should be more than enough headroom from the One S to the Series S to also support TAA on top of doubling the frame rate.

Edit:

And again, I’m happy this update is coming. I still play PUBG to this day and have been wanting an update for a long time. I just wish they did a bit more, especially on the XSS and PS5.

AFAIK, The Enhanced BC games on PS5 are still constrained by the PS4Pro limitations, namely memory footprint is still limited to a meager 5.5 GB.

So like we saw with some mid-gen patches where 4Pro had limited resolution compared to OneX, this may be why PUBG on PS5 isnt 4K.

Yeah it’s why back-compat only titles on ps5 can’t go above 60fps either.

Had no idea that was the case, really stupid if so and could explain why they didn’t bump the resolution here.

NO way in hell Starfield doesn’t have a 60FPS option on Series X. The engine can’t be that abysmal that it can’t run the game at 60FPS with a CPU as fast as Zen in the Series X and with the GPU memory.

1080p at 60 should be more than easily doable. Games have to drop down to 1440 to get 60 now and even open world games can do it at a lower res.

From the footage we saw…you’re literally in massive open land planets with very little going on as far as AI and organic movement.

The video footage was rendered at 4k at 30FPS.

Ignore anyone or any rumour about no 60FPS. IT will absolutely have a 60FPS option.

Series S? Thats another story. but even the Series S at 900p/720p can do things the PS4 pro and One X couldn’t come close to doing.

Its all about optimisation.

So what? Starfield will be a 1440p 30FPS game at best on Series X? CMon now. Thats a load of rubbish.

ITs gonna be a linear Action adventure game with some larger areas most likely. Will easily hit 60 at some resolution mode.

This isn’t Flight Simulator which is trying to render a million things at once. Thats the only game I can think of that requires a bat shit insane CPU to run at 60FPS and even then you need a ridiculously overclocked CPU to run it consistently.

Flight Simuator is the only game I think that won’t have 60FPS option on Base Series X system. Other types of games can hit 60 with some exclusions.

I don’t program games for a living so it’s hard for me to look at a game and see how much load there might be on the CPU.

Why is Series X getting 4K and PS5 1440p?

Xbox version is native and PS5 is running the PS4 Pro version on BC mode.

AFAIK, They’re not native as in GDK, they’re going to be using XDK Gen9Aware modes. So the GPU is still running in BC mode using GCN and does not expose out the newer RDNA2 features.

OneX supports 4K while, 4Pro supports 1440p. PS5 brings 60fps to the 4Pro configuration. Series X brings 60fps to the OneX configuration. SeriesS brings 60fps to the OneS configuration.

I didn’t know that, thanks for the insight.
