Games Analysis |OT| Time To Argue About Pixels And Frames!

There are not a lot of 120Hz displays out there which not at least support FreeSync.

Personally, I prefer a straight forward 60fps mode or if the game has Ray Tracing like Miles and Ratchet, give me that 60fps RT performance mode as I will easily accept the hit in resolution.

No way is starfield 4k 60 on series x

Expecting a 500 dollar system running next gen open world AAA games at 4k60 is delusional.

Build me a pc than can do that and tell me how much it will cost.

120hz isnt relevant for most people. The 40 hz isnt common but im sure theyll support it. Series x has way more games with 120hz compared to ps5. So not sure what people are getting at.

Probably not native but I can’t see how it wouldn’t be able to do upscaled or checkerboarded 4K at 60fps on Series X.

I rather it be native 1440p solid 60. We dont need checkerboards this isnt running on a one x.

Agreed. I wouldn’t mind 1440p at a locked and consistent 60fps.

I think there’s a decent chance Starfield is CPU bound. If it wasn’t, I think they would offer a 60fps mode at lower resolutions or effects but I’m pretty sure they confirmed it’s 30fps on console.

Ahhh.

Haven’t seen them confirmed anything like that. Where you getting reference from?

no one has confirmed anything about the framerate.

Nope, not a thing yet. Not one single detail about console actually yet.

I thought I saw some headlines talking about Starfield is 30fps but looking into it, I think they were based off the video below. At the 25:00 Todd Howard is asked if he’s more of a graphics guy or frame rate guy and he says for his games he’d much rather shoot for 30fps to have all the shiny pixels and be able to pick up the cup. This isn’t actually a confirmation but between that comment, the frame rate of the gameplay, and knowing how simulation heavy Bethesda games typically are, I’d be surprised if there was a 60fps mode.

If there’s no 60fps mode for Starfield, wow!!! There should at least be an option. Hell, I’ll take native 1080p if it means I get 60fps.

From the looks of Starfield, it does not look like resolution would matter in hitting 60 fps. Because afterall, there would be a series S version available at much lower resolution.

If it doesn’t have a 60 fps mode then it is more likely due to the CPU limitations rather then any GPU limitation

So I am praying for a good VRR support in the game for that unlocked frame rate mode. That’s what Bethesda should do. But provide a 30 fps cap option as well for non vrr display

Won’t be thrilled if there’s no 60fps option. I don’t want to see studios going backwards to 30fps. To me, every game should have at the very least a 60fps performance option. We’ll see what happens though.

Well, maybe there will 40fps version :man_shrugging:

This could be a good example where a game can benefit from a 40fps mode. Doubt we’ll see it but it would be a nice option if they can hit that performance level at least.

It’s not going to be easy to go back to 30fps after so many games now in 60fps. And not only that, it’s first person too, with optional third person camera. I am sure we’ll adjust to it, but after the smooth experiences that are Halo, Doom, Wolfenstein etc it’s not going to be great.

But if it indeed ends up 30fps,I hope they can make it feel smooth like RDR2 and Witcher 3. I don’t know what they’ve done for those games but 30fps feels great in their games. The other day I went from Fall Guys (60fps) back to RDR2 and yes, it took a minute or so to adjust but there are other games out there like AC Valhalla where 30fps feels like a slug feat, horrible.

Maybe RDR2 and Witcher 3 use some kind of special motion blur?

I don’t expect that 60fps is here to stay tbh, that’s why I plan on building a PC mid gen.
