The shock of loving an Xbox on an Xbox forum. And there is little point in trying to have any debate with you over DF. You only censor what I say anyway and seem quite happy to judge my character. There is no need to be condescending either.
There’s a difference between loving a console and loving it to the exclusion of others to the point of casting aspersions. These are real people who work hard to provide quality content. It’s shitty to imply they’re crooked because you don’t agree with their professional opinion and conclusions. I encourage you to look at Gavin’s great posts in this thread, they might make you understand the findings and give you hope that the Series consoles will pull ahead in the future.
It’s fine if you don’t care for DF! Talk about the content of their videos or post other content you like more! Just saying “these guys suck anyway” just seems bitter and stifles conversation/derails the thread.
The problem isn’t loving Xbox, I love Xbox as a platform. The problem is when people attack others over these systems. There’s absolutely no need for that, these are video games we’re talking about.
I’ve said it a million times, keep the conversation about the content and technology, not your opinion about perceived agendas and motivations. That is off topic and has no place here.
In that DF video that they just released, Alex pretty much repeats what I said earlier:
“…but you know when I think when compute is going to be leveraged more and I think that is the general tendency in graphics these days over time is more compute being leveraged and less so the speed of fixed function hardware which is the advantage the PS5 has, I think we’ll start to see some more returns on the XSX side.”
This is something myself and a lot of other devs I chat with, agree on. Faster but doing less works wonders for the older way of thinking, but that’s not where we are heading.
Like I said there is no point in having a debate with you over DF. I would say either if I was really nasty or posting vile stuff about DF. There was also no need for the condescending nonsense either, or do I take it only people who praise DF al the time, understand what goes into making DF
DF likes to call some developers a ‘Joke’ call out the games; What do most of the DF team know about making a game or a game engine for do they know, only one of the members actually has any experience of working as a game developer? No one says they shouldn’t be allowed to comment or post views on games or tech.
Can someone summerize this please?
Do you understand the meaning of “stay on topic?” this thread is about video game comparison and technology. It’s crazy how some of you are so dedicated to going off topic or express your misguided views that you want to argue with a mod who is there to keep threads on topic.
Someone says something less favorable about one box, or they miss some detail that another channel finds, and some of you lose your minds with bullshit conspiracy theories about agendas and motives. These same people speak highly about your plastic box of choice and there’s crickets, no discussion or criticism. That adds absolutely NOTHING to this thread. You’re right, there’s no point in having a debate about DF, because this thread isn’t about that, so keep that shit out of here.
Quit with the whining, stay on topic and discuss the content posted in here or related technology, or stay out of the thread. It’s really that easy.
Thanks.
There is a lot they go over. They pretty much recap what they covered over the last year and reiterate their findings and thoughts. It’s a good watch that can be broken up in multiple sessions since I know it’s a long video.
This argument has nothing to do with pixels and even less to do with frames.
Stow it, or at least post pics of the posts with a frame time graph to pretend you’re even TRYING to stay on topic.
As another poster on B3D said (Riddlewire), might be worth keeping an eye on to see if any more meaningful power draw metrics are shared
Require a system at 1/4 of the power of series S to have a decent handheld.
Upscaling and other performance Saving techniques are even more crucial now.
Great find Brit! Professionally, one of the things I do is develop ways to mitigate energy consumption across a fleet of Mac and Windows devices, so I love seeing where I can do the same at home. I’ll admit, there are times where I’ll play on my Series S and shitty 1080p set, especially where it’s a BC game missing One X enhancements, just to use less power.
Surprised they bothered tbh. Does it do anything unique with its tech at all? I did like the aesthetic of it a lot but need to dive back in and play more.
Very, very good point. I would say no absolutely not. Honestly this should have been Psychonauts 2 instead. Does stuff a lot more unique and special.
Rather odd choice this.
John said he didn’t wanna do psychonauts 2 coz he wanted to save that experience and no tarnish it with a tech analysis. (Not his exact words). Personally, I don’t buy his reason but hey they decide what content they make
Psychonauts doesn’t do anything special with its tech either, lol. This is what the TLDR version is as per someone on OtherEra:
"TL;DW
-
Developed by a team of 25 people
-
Shadow maps are quite low resolution.
-
Foliage renders at half refresh rate
-
Asset quality up-close can look raw.
-
SX: Dynamic 4K. Ranges between 1296p to 2160p. Typical 1584p. But the IQ is very clean on a 4K display.
-
SS: Dynamic 1440p. Ranges from 864p to 1440p. Typical 936p.
-
Always room for higher/lower dynamic ranges but this is what DF recorded.
-
Series S has much lower shadow draw distance. Otherwise draw distance for geometry is basically identical.
-
SX is basically locked to 60 FPS with one, or two frames dropped at most when standing right in the face of an explosion.
-
SS can drop frames when close to and sucking the gunk. Drops to 50’s and cut-scenes can drop to mid 40’s at worst.
-
VRR can help the Series S issues but those without may experience a game with ‘jerky’ performance.
-
Summary: Series X impresses while Series S could use a bit more work."
…which is about what I’d expect from a small indie team making a game like this. It sure is strange though since DF’s description of the YT vid says “The Gunk leverages Unreal Engine 4 to impressive effect.”. Very strange disconnect between the video content and the description there. /shrugs
Save that experience as in for himself because he had yet to play it? Because that I could understand to be honest.
It certainly explains why I definitely noticed some parts looking crisper than other parts.
I think the impression is within context that the game was made by a team of 25 people. In that light, it is impressive what they’ve done with the engine.
I was just thinking about how no one covered this game earlier today. Seems like it just came and went with little attention, so I’m glad they covered it. Wonder how the One S and One X versions compare.
As in he really loves the game and already played it so he does not want to analyze it and dig for issues
