Dragon Age: The Veilguard | Review

I got through the battle on my 3rd attempt today after I changed up the skills for my companions. I will say this, 24+ hours in, game is great. Playing on custom difficulty even though I have everything set to standard with all the aim assist options and the enemy attack warnings off. I haven’t even used any of my skill points yet as im waiting until I get to level 20. At level 17 now.

Work tomorrow but will get back to playing the game on Tuesday.

Boy, the whole discourse of verifying this game as a horrible game, not even letting others to like it, is pathetic. I was expecting election to show me that, but not from a game.

I’m using them immediately, having rage last longer and build up faster means more drop kicks and time to drop kick.

It’s specially hilarious to get an enemy close to a hill only to drop kick them off.

Just re-did a a party members personal quest with a different party member and there was uniqueane different banter dialogue. Nice.

This is a fun old school action adventure RPG and I’m really enjoying it. THANK GOD it has ZERO souls influence which would ruin this game and WAY to many RPG’s copy nowadays. no cheap deaths, no insane backtracking for gear you lost etc.

Need more games like this,

Haha. True. I want to see how long I can last before giving in without using skill points on standard difficulty. I’m 22 hours in and level 17. Just waiting until I get to level 20 and will then use the skill points.

These chests…they are everywhere ! E-ve-ry-whe-re ! I’m wasting so much time finding all of them, but the reward most of the time is worth it.

The weapon and armor design in this game is top tier. Every piece of armor have some trinkets, many layers of fabric and really cool and unique look with capes moving and everything. And there’sa bunch of designs for your companions too. There’s no denying that it is a really detailed and well crafted game.

I’m only just got my 4th party member and it’s been a blast, although I really need to upgrade potions because 3 isn’t enough sometimes.

Yeah, I have all the companions and didn’t realise you could up your potion amount. I will definitely do that when I jump back in.

I was mostly guessing with potions, as I’m still early on but 3 potions seems too little during my last boss fight. Where I found myself holding back for a couple of seconds twice, for Harding to be off cooldown.

Good game, but definitely my least favorite of the series. It’s a very accomplished action RPG, which is great, but the story and role playing aspects are so thin, and that’s what I come to the series for.

The story was thin? It dove more into the lore than they ever had before, with a lot of deep side quests especially for the companions.

I thought a lot of lore aspects were flattened to make it a simpler story. Just one example, Tevinter Nights talks about a large number of Dalish and city elves joining Solas’s movement and acting as his agents. Where were they?

Where was the Chantry, like at all? I think Andrastianism was literally mentioned once. No mention of the Black Divine at all even though we went to the capital city of Tevinter.

I know, not every plot thread will be picked up from one game to the next, that’s always been true. This game just felt unusually cut off from the lore of previous games. Not in the sense of answering longstanding mysteries and questions - because it certainly did that - but just feeling like this is the same world and society from the previous games.

But the biggest thing for me was not feeling like I had as much freedom to define myself as Rook. In previous DA games, you can be friends or rivals with other characters, agree with what they say or push back on it, be nice or mean or silly, choose to punish or spare characters, etc. There was very little of that in Veilguard compared to previous games. I can’t see myself replaying this game, because it doesn’t feel like there’s much room to play a different character. If anything it makes me want to play Dragon Age II again.

Just my thoughts. There was a lot that I loved about the game! Just also a lot of things that were not what I’m looking for from Dragon Age.

So Iv got a decent amount of time in the game and I kind of regret my purchase. Combat is good but the characters and world feel flat and a step back from previous bioware games. I even feel like andromeda had better writing. Maybe it’s like this to appeal to a younger audience

Just rolled credits and would have to agree with Jesse, this is a 10 for me. I could see myself replaying it, change class, saving a different city. The post credit scene is also a good tease for what Bioware want’s to do in the future. I’ll be there.

Finally had time to really get started on this (spent way too long on the character creation lol) and am loving it so far.

Feels great, particularly seeing the old faces like Varric and even Solas (I always liked his sarcastic humour lol, guess being British plus his voice actor was great in Torchwood lol)

Hope you enjoy. I have so much more to say but everything is spoilery as possible so not suited to this thread.
