If you have one platform, where people are fairly familiar with how you develop for it, how to optimize things, etc. and one that people haven’t had a ton of time figuring out some of the tricks for how you make it work best, and you have the same amount of time to devote to each, which one is going to come out best at first?
Once people get more accustomed to how things work, this probably will change a bit. But seriously, for how long they have had, it’s nice that they’re almost identical already.
Df’s rich did say some devs are happy with the gdk while others are not, also the dirt 5 guy could of just said its good, i mean a dev is not going to say a platform they are working on is bad.
There is one thing Sony is really, really good at, and that their dev tools. They surpass MS. It maybe one of the reasons they stuck with a 36CU GPU, to make the cross over from PS4 to PS5 really easy.
MS has come out with a new raft of API extensions, and they will take time to exploit. Of that there is no question. It may also be that there are bugs in the Direct X 12U, which may be the cause of big crashes.in performance like we see in DMC, and AC.
But at the end of the day it’s not a good look, and continues the trend of MS kicking own goals.
As a Xbox game it’s frustrating.
I give MS a pat on the back for the things they do well, and a kick up the arse when they do things poorly.
I don’t run cover for them.
Didnt the bad Xbox outperform PS5 version of DMCV in 3 out of the 4 game modes? What are we talking about here acting like the Series X is getting dusted like Xbox One was.
Now I see people on other forums arguing with “So a actual dev denies devkut is maturing and is fine, but DF says the opposite. So what is it?” This site also made a specific article how ACV runs smoother on PS5. I don’t know, maybe Xbox should give a heads up about this themselves to “calm” worried customers down i guess? They waited to be able to offer a full RDNA2 set of features, let this be known to everyone. Idont think it can hurt.
Your argument is that being a few frames worse than another console at launch because your tools aren’t developed as well or newer is ‘not a good look’. Something that a tiny number of people care about and nobody would be any the wiser about were it not for internet nonsense.
The thing that worries me is how deeply embedded people must be in online console wars to think this is important or something that anyone should be concerned about. It’s mind boggling. If in 2 years the series X still hasn’t fulfilled its performance capability then sure it’s a cock up. But right now it’s only relevant to those wanting ammo to fire at people on social media. To everyone else it’s completely irrelevant.
I have VRR on my TV, and Assassin’s Creed has played brilliantly for me through about 10 hours of gameplay that feels like a “next gen” experience for me with the 60 fps target and fast loading times. But I do understand that those without VRR would like a patch for the tearing at a minimum.
I will say that I do enjoy Digital Foundry’s work, but this video seemed a little odd to me. Because I don’t think that they were at all trying to say that the Series X is performing around 47 fps very often at all, but the couple of instances noted there were talked about in a way that makes it seem broader based than I think is actually the case across the entire game. But at the end of the day Xbox tools will improve since they by admission waited for the full RDNA2 implementation and have less mature dev kits at launch. But the other thing to remember here is that some of the Series X real advantages may not show as much anyway until you get true next gen ground up games where the additional raw specs advantage and RDNA2 features are being implemented, so you get mixed results with cross gen games due to the factors already discussed.
If Sony starts messaging power or multiple developers are saying anything meaningful in that regard toward the PS5 over the Series X by next summer then you can freak out I guess about power, but common sense tells us that the stronger hardware spec is going to perform the best when tools are more mature and fully next gen games are taking advantage of available hardware. So just enjoy the great games on there including AC: Valhalla which is awesome on the Series X and Xbox Game Pass until that transition fully into next gen happens.
I’m referring to where is specific scenes it the Frame rate would crash for no apparent reason. Kinda like in AC where when you open the door from the house the Frame rate crashes and you have full screen tearing.
If you go see the comparison vids you will see it.
In not on Twitter. But surely on an Xbox forum, people who play Xbox are able to talk about disappointing ports and games?
The review of AC by DF was pretty damming.
I also haven’t heard of Ubisoft mentioning any patches to fix these issues either.
Except this is on the dev themselves, not MS.
MS didn’t mess anything up, 3rd party devs are by focusing on another platform as their most likely lead, resulting in less time and polish for the Xbox version as there is no reason for Series X to perform worse.
One thing to keep in mind is that what Microsoft are doing with Xbox is more ambitious then sony.
For the first time ever they are launching 2 different consoles with different specs, They are essentially release 2 next gen consoles, at the same time! This is crazy.
They are launching a widespread cloud platform
They support PC with there exclusives and services.
Everyone here seems to have poor memories. Go back and watch the digital foundry analysis of Assassin’s Creed Unity. The Xbox one version consistently outperformed the PS4 version. I don’t think anyone would like to claim that the Xbox one hardware was better. That game was eventually patched to the point where both games ran at a locked 30fps. I’m am sure this will be true again.
Assassin’s creed has always been a spring game for me as they always seem to launch with issues. By Spring most of the issues are ironed out and I can enjoy an improved game.
Yeah it’s disappointing that Microsoft didn’t get their tools ready on time. Those who bought an xbox on the promise of superior power have a right to be disappointed.
However, this is hardly new info. The digital foundry people have been saying for months that Devs have been impressed by the dev tools for ps5.
If the rumour is true that the gdk got a bunch of new features in the summer is true, it’s kind of a miracle that there are any decent performing launch games at all.
Again this is on Microsoft, but I knew this before launch and I don’t consider myself the most keyed in person.
I chose an Xbox over a ps5 because of game pass and because Microsoft’s renewed long term commitment to first party. Day one titles launching with a few issues hasn’t changed my mind.
I think people expect these cards to be better than they are. I have to remind myself that these are not equivalent to 3080 equivalent cards. These are 2070 series, as such they are a huge improvement over current consoles. We should look at how they top out instead of the 30 series.
yeah it’s part of the hardware that what i meant, in ACV Case there is no advantage to XSX at all. basically UBI Throwed the extra 2TF in the trash bin lol
You’re acting as if the situation is a disaster. It’s not. Yeah, some games are running better on the PS5, but that doesn’t mean that Xbox should have delayed all of their hardware. This is only a temporary problem. It will be fixed in time and pay off in the end, which is what matters the most in the long term.
