Crisis Core: FF7 Reunion Announced (coming this Winter to Xbox)

IMO it’s all dependent on how large the IP is and the potential backlash from yanking those IPs away from everyone else versus the potential profit they’d get by keeping them multi-platform. Minecraft and COD both are similar in that way and I think that’s why both will remain multi-platform.

It’s a different story for new IPs that don’t have huge followings on other platforms or even existing IPs that were generally more popular on Xbox.

Probably, but you could also argue that Xbox could make nothing but AAA bangers and release them for free on everything from your Ipad to PS and Nintendo and still would not have that much goodwill with gamers anyway. They could cure cancer, cancel student debt and buy everyone’s gas for them and people would still wish that they close. A lot of people from gamers to journalists to people without a dog in the fight, just hate Xbox no matter what for no reason. I would much rather take a little extra hate for a year or two for the greater good of games going everywhere day 1 as an industry wide practice than keep letting someone much smaller than me push me around in the industry.

I am pretty PO’d at Playstation right now though, so I would absolutely do everything in my power to either force them to play ball or go out of business, if I had the money and resources to. Lol

IMO that’s a pretty cynical and unrealistic view of the industry and consumers at large. MS were the ones to blow their good will at the beginning of last gen and then had their funds cut to the extent that they couldn’t do enough to really win it back. However this gen is different, they’ve done a lot of good and have received a lot of good will because of that. They still have a ways to go and I think when their release schedule starts pumping out these games regularly, you’ll see opinions shift even more. Nintendo and Sony have built up a cache of good will, that may be a hard pill to swallow for some here, but it’s the truth. MS is just not at that level quite yet. Once their big titles come out and are hopefully received well, they too will build a cache of good will of their own.

What you want to happen would burn all of that to the ground and just cement whatever negative assumptions some may have about them.

What do you expect for TES VI? We had Phil basically saying it was going to be an exclusive,as it should. This big boy is gonna bring huge numbers of subs, I have zero doubt.

Oh yeah, TES is definitely exclusive. Even with the previous two titles appearing on PS, by the time it’s out, it’ll be at the end of this generation and it will be well established that Bethesda is an Xbox company at that point. So the risk of any blowback is very little to none IMO. Also by the end of this gen, it’ll be even easier to have access to GP, so the lack of a PS version would be even less severe because of that IMO.

There’s also the fact that regardless of how well loved Skyrim is, it’s nowhere near as large as COD or Minecraft. So I’m sure that also plays a part in their decision.

Yeah I take both of them back to be honest. I think they need to fill in the gaps but exclusivity and acquisitions aren’t the way to go. I think maybe Day One Game pass is maybe the way to go, it can be on all systems but it’s on this subscription day one. Then it guarantees that x game comes to the system.

I disagree 100%. If Game Pass was to ever go on PlayStation or Nintendo, that will be the day Xbox dies because it would be exclusives only and why would anyone buy or invest into Xbox eco-system/platform if they can just play those games on PlayStation or Nintendo?

If Game Pass was on my PS5, I immediately sell off my Series X and every Microsoft exclusive that I want to play becomes a $10 monthly rental and the rest of my money goes into the PlayStation eco-system.

As someone who’s spent over $800 in the Xbox eco-system in the last 18 months, I would no longer have any incentive to keep my Series X and invest into the Xbox eco-system if I could just play them on PlayStation 5 via a $10 Game Pass monthly rental.

I prefer having two consoles and eco-systems. I don’t ever want to see this happen.

People said the same thing when Xbox games started landing on PC day one. I know it’s not exactly the same situation, but even if every game was on everything, I’d still want to own an Xbox for the controller, network, system features, etc.

I totally get where you’re coming from though.

I wonder another reason we havent seen ff7 remake on xbox isnt down to sony at all…but SE wanting more money from MS for gamepass or something like that.

I was wondering this before…SE pricing themselves out of an xbox port. Ms rightly so no csving in and giving SE that much money for gamepass release of a 2 year old game.

I agree wth you on gamepass going to Sony and Nintendo, but I disagree about enjoying having to buy multiple consoles sometimes just for 1 game. Gamepass should never go to Sony or Nintendo unless their games are added to it and are available on Xbox no amount of arguing will ever make that make sense to me. If Xbox wants their games on Sony and Nintendo without getting those games for their platform they just need to stop hardware altogether and go 3rd party subscription.

I agree with Kage here that games should release on every platform on day one. Some people say I’d have no reason to buy an Xbox or PS5, but that is a good thing. You can then buy what you want and not have to spend $500 to play 1 or 2 games. I guarantee you if this were to happen tomorrow and all games were magically everywhere 95% of Playstation fans would still buy Playstation and 95% of Xbox fans would still buy Xbox’s going forward. The 10 percent coming from both of them would probably stay on PC or other.

I always saw this as nothing but speculation. I think it’s more likely that SE gave them a number and they did the numbers and thought, we can get 3 Gamepass games for that so they passed. And that’s a big problem if that senario is true but I’ve never seen any evidence for either

PC is different though. First, if you want the best, it’s way more expensive. At least $2000 for a high end PC and you need to stay current as tech advances and evolves. Second, PC gamers love mods and all the options.

Consoles are cheaper and far easier and quicker to just start the game. The lone exception for me would be is if Microsoft and Sony combined to make ONE super console where you get everything. That would be awesome. Sadly, I don’t ever see this happening.

Agreed on everything but disagree in regards to buying a console just for one game. I bought a Sega CDX for two games - Final Fight CD (my all time favorite beat em up) and Snatcher (one of the best games of all time). That was literally it and totally worth it.

It all comes down to if the game itself is worth it and when you see so many people begging/hoping/wishing/praying for the game to come to their platform of choice, I would think that the game is worth it. I have never bought a console for a game that I didn’t want to play.

I enjoy having two consoles/platforms because I want to see which one is better for me and I do love exclusives as it’s literally the number one reason why I buy and own a console. I owned a Switch for two years just so I could play 5 exclusives even though I could have passed on 2 of them. Even at 3 exclusives, still worth it because I wanted to play the games.

For me, it’s all about the exclusive games you’re giving me. You do this and you can easily win me over. And the more the better. Thus far, both Microsoft and Sony have won me over. The only difference is that Sony has given me a three exclusives as of now where as Microsoft has only given me Halo Infinite but overall, both sides will be stacked even though Microsoft should win out simply because they have far more studios and teams than Sony which in turn should equal far more exclusives.

I completely forgot about this! You’re absolutely right they did the same with P5R and lo and behold an Xbox port was announced

Yeah those 3 games being persona 3 4 and 5. Good decision MS.

But the gamepass thing doesnt explain no xbox port. So must be sony thing. And it is what it is.

At least SE are putting other rpgs on there. Though theres a timed deal on the new Valkyrie Elysium gsme

We are getting thr new star ocean…theres that

The “I’ll just play on PC” crowd is most likely very small imo, AAA titles requires good PCs to run and most people run old hardware or cheap lstuff made to run f2p games. The steam hardware survey tells all to be honest.

I own a rtx 3080 and a Ryzen 5800x yet I mostly use it for web surfing while I spend almost all my gaming time on Xbox lol, so go figure!

PC is huge in China for example, but overall worldwide I wouldn’t be surprised if consoles had a bigger share in general because of the ease of use. Wasn’t Fortnite like 80% on console with the rest sit between mobile and PC or something like that?

More people will come to Xbox ecosystem to play those games? Why do you think exclusivity exist in the first place?

I also find it fascinating most of the people wanting Game Pass on PS, never asks Sony to release their games on Xbox. It is just naturally accepted that games should come to Playstation :joy:

I personally have zero desire to buy Playstation - it looks ugly and big, I don’t want to invest in Sony’s ecosystem, I don’t trust them with my content, I don’t like their PC policies, I don’t like their pricing schemes and shenanigans, their platform is the worst one for the fighting games and so on.

And aside GP they should do that too.

So? “Hey, you should release everything on PS or you won’t have a good will. Also please don’t buy anything because we want moneyhat for Playstation, but you will still have some good will so be happy”

Minecraft was released on PS by the time Microsoft acquired them. They could not remove it from the platfom. I don’t understand their policies about Minecraft Legends and Dungeons though, but well…Who understands Mojang anyway?

The bigger Xbox community is, the more vocal they will be. When Xbox will grow enough, media will switch to them as they will start fight back against the dishonest discussions. It is just the unfortunate reality that PS folks generate a lot of clicks online. while it does not translate into the real world, media is looking for online engagement.

Microsoft should continue getting more and more exclusive content, whenever it is possible. The laughable situation with FF7R should not happen. Microsoft is unlucky with timings though, but more acquisitions and more exclusivity is a must.

This logic doesn’t make sense when they are releasing CC, a game that will sell far less than a FF7R would on xbox

If it was a case of hey give us money to release FF7 then they wouldn’t be releasing Crisis Core when they could make far more money selling the game people actually want

It’s obviously Sony money

Regarding share of revenue, pc does have a greater share than all combined consoles. Mobile is much bigger still, which explains why Apple and Google earn so much money from gaming and why xbox is spending a lot of attention to making games playable for mobile users through xCloud.

I also want to add to this reductive take that Microsoft would be doing the same thing as Sony if GP weren’t a thing… it’s not as if we don’t have historical evidence to suggest that take is verifiably wrong.

After Rise of the Tomb Raider, Phil specifically stated that he didn’t like doing the big-release timed exclusive and the timeline shows that Xbox was true to that sentiment. As one such example of said funding, it’s not as if 2018 was the start of Xbox’s influx of funding again. How do you think the One X was built, sold at a loss, and released in 2017?

You have to be careful with PC gaming revenue though, because if you look at the more detailed revenue splits, most of the revenues come from Asia/China and if you also look at the yearly top 10 earners, it’s almost, if not all free to play games, meaning the sale of big AAA titles isn’t really what drives PC gaming, and the same can be said of mobile. Free to play games are meant to run and very low powered PC hardware, which isn’t representative of what is required for console quality or higher PC gaming.
