Bloomberg Japan: PS5 Production cut by 4 million Units. Cites yield issues *update* Sony responds

Even myself found the report deny, muddy and vague…

You know when stocks drop a business will act quick to reassure shareholders. If not or if they say nothing their shares continue to drop. Basic lesson. Of course Sony would respond what would people expect them to say? Oh yes we’ve had issues don’t buy our console. Lol. The stocks dropped that is a fact and solid proof enough to lend credence to the report plus Bloomberg is not your little wannabee industry reporting site. It is a big professional site. We are used to Sony lies from the past. So I don’t believe them.

That’s fair. I had some not-great experiences myself, and I did double dip on a lot of my library like you suggested ha ha. At the end of the day, the only side I really care about is the consumer, and I hope that Sony makes some headway like Microsoft did. If only for my stubborn friends who refuse to shop around!

Lol no one gives a shit about these 80$ controllers they are going to shove down everyone’s throats.

Lol some of the controller features will get annoying in the long run I can see it like on PS4 the lightbar was the most useless feature for me. Battery waster.

We don’t know what level of BC PS5 has. They only made vague statements that it would be there with the ps4 and ps4 pro. It is possible that it’s full back compat with PS 1,2,3&4 but we don’t know. It’s also possible that they will come out at $300/400. I just don’t think those scenarios are likely. I don’t like to guess Sony stats based on leaks because Sony leakers have an absolutely piss poor record. For Sony, I wait until Sony says what it has then take it verbatim.

Edit: I will wait until tomorrow is done before I make much out of what Sony has or doesn’t have.

Not here, fortunately.

Gonna say I trust mochizuki’s track record more than a rules lawyered statement to prevent stocks from falling. Fact is since there was never a publicly disclosed production number there’s no “proof” or not of changes nor any context to what timeframe is being talked about. But I won’t be surprised if come March they’ve shipped about 8-9m~ units or so (which would imply around the 11m production number).

“We have not changed the production number for PlayStation 5 since the start of mass production”

Why are they not more clear and precise

They didn’t say they if meet their goals or if they changed before entering mass production. Just that their production number didn’t change that is all.

By using a global general sentence they want to make you believe the whole information is false without specifying which parts and be accused of lying.

Yes context and timeframe is important here and it is carefully omitted not for nothing.

We’ll see soon.

Sony’s denial is vague, likely on purpose. I’d wager that some of the report is accurate.

It is what it is, Sony will adjust if there are problems.

so microsoft will have more units at launch than sony? am i understanding the translation right?

It’s related to yield and production cost. If they have enough money, they could just order more from other fabs such as the Taichung fab according to the post.

so what would this entail that they are struggling with the SOC like bloomberg said

Predictable and as expected.

Can you please translate cause translation tools really not enough accurate. Thanks.

Production 2:1 MS vs Sony? Prod capacity full? Sony late in prod?

Anyway, guys we should be prepared to see PS5 back at 8tf…

Mitigation failed I suppose. Smartshift not enough. Too much heat. If it were a production issue MS would have been impacted too but as we know they had very good yields.

I really think BC is part of their problems too.

  1. The original plan was to distribute the production capacity equally to Sony/Microsoft. But now Microsoft are making so many SoCs that even eating up all Sony’s capacity, TSMC needs to find other foundries to support Sony. A little bit embarrassing situation for them.

Sure they could fully turn to the Taichung Fab (I guess, and it’s 12 inch), but I think it’s unlikely because of 2).

  2. TSMC has used Sony’s design to do CSAM and FIB. The problem Sony has needs to be solved from the foundry side, the assembly side can’t help. AMD might feel tired of those problems too.

Ah it is far better here thanks a lot for the translation and confirmation. Even AMD tired of this oh it is not a good look. Sony trying to find help…

The rest of failed chips going to waste must hurt hard, meaning 50% PS5 lost.

Sony says, “While we do not release details related to manufacturing, the information provided by Bloomberg is false,” Sony says. “We have not changed the production number for PlayStation 5 since the start of mass production.”

But doesn’t that mean they they simply didn’t change the number they ordered, but will get less than they ordered?

I actually miss some of the Dualshock 4 features since I made the switch to Xbox. The Touchpad was an awesome extra button, the speaker on the controller was incredible when used right and I actually really liked the lights.

The battery life was attrocious, though.
