I don’t think the absence of VRS and ML is any criteria for a normal console gamer. I think price and overall performance are still the main reasons for console purchase decisions for the majority of gamers.
I want a bloody teardown of the PS5.
At this stage, I am not quite sure what Sony hopes to hide from their competitors this late in the game.
…but variable clocks are the future!
In all seriousness, I dont think that they missed the mark. They hit their internal mark, and MAY have made some tweaks in anticipation of their competitor.
Sony’s response to the Bloomberg report -
“While we do not release details related to manufacturing, the information provided by Bloomberg is false"
Link : https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2020-09-15-sony-reportedly-cuts-ps5-production-by-4m-units
So Sony is cutting production by MORE than 4m units? Oh jeez. LOL.
I guess that puts the bloombergers journo comment on PS5 Pricing as nothing more then opinion.
“We have not changed the production number for PlayStation 5 since the start of mass production.”
Well basically Bloomberg was reporting that Sony decreased the production after increasing, so perhaps a mis communication.
Eh, a third party will open up the console and give us the real story on launch day. I’ll decide by then.
Performance is certainly affected by the ability to leverage ML and VRS.
Not in marketing. The consumer base I talk about don’t know what those things are and are not really interested in those kind of details.
Not today, but they will be in the future when they manifest notable performance deltas favoring XSX.
That is a really odd statement. So they are denying ever increasing the number too then? And note they are not denying yield problems. This sounds like one of those stories where you can spin or carefully reframe some elements and then use that to “deny” the rest of the correct details.
Wonder if journalists are going to question Sony on this denial like they did when MS denied the Yield issues rumors back in 2013?
50% yikes man, I don’t know the exact math here but that sounds like a very high number? I’m guessing the super high clocks are causing this, I knew those clock numbers were sky high when I saw them.
I guess we’ll get some semblance of truth when Sony announce their price tomorrow.
No, anything good for Sony is true anything bad is fake news
I wouldn’t put any credence on it I were you. Fifty percent yields is something that would tell you that your chip is nowhere near ready for mass production.
Was there confirmation that they upped production to 15mil ever? Or that they had doubled their production target from 5.5–>11 mil?
Ask a friend that reads non of the forums and wnat to buy a console about VRS and ML. You will earn a face with a lot of ??? in it.
We discussing those things on the forums are a minority. Even the size of those infamous other two forums are not beyond 20k members. We in here are below 2000 members.
Precisely. They are affirming they never changed the production from the initial request.
The thing is, Bloomberg wasn’t the only one reporting their initial request was limited, but they were the only one reporting that it increased (only to reduce again 2 months later), which we now know it was bogus.
You basically ignored the point I brought up…performance matters (as you said) and VRS and ML can drastically improve performance. It’s irrelevant what ppl hear about today in terms of buzzwords. What matters is the effect those tech’s have on the games.
