Bloomberg Japan: PS5 Production cut by 4 million Units. Cites yield issues *update* Sony responds

Under the curves, nice Yeah I hope tomorrow is not just games. That would be the most disappointing for me.

3nm in 2023 will be very expensive. There is not a very large gain from 5nm to 4nm. If the power, yield from high frequency, then a 30% power improvement, or 20% clock improvements may be enough to justify the NRE. You will also have a smaller die, so there would be a overall small cost improvement.

Will you pre order PS5 without sony giving confirmation on RT cores and VRS/Mesh shaders ?

Edit: Given that you are planning to buy it at sometime!

No.

To be fair, I wasn’t planning to in any case. Not until the BC is clarified, a Xbox style controller is available, and long term reports show the PS5 is cooler and quieter then PS3 and PS4/Pro. Missing these items (particularly good BC), though, could mean I skip PS5 like I did PS4.

Those sites just cater to the largest fanbase. I kinda take all of the negativity and concern trolling as a positive for myself regarding Xbox. I’ll know every last limitation of the XSX and XSS down to how “OMG the stand doesn’t come off!” so I don’t have to worry about not knowing about some major defect.

On the Sony side, things like the PS4 noise issues fly under the radar only until it is okay to discuss them after the generation is already in hand. So it is better to wait in this case.

Preorder? Yes! Buy and let the order get shipped? No!

Better be save than sorry. But here in Germany you can always resell your Playstation for a lot. So we’ll see.

Wow big post ahead captain! Thanks for the really informative and detailled reply. They will lose money one way or another either way. But much more than they probably have anticipated. Pushing 2,2 on each chip and expecting it to be near perfect. There were huge levels of hope here. No wonder there were lots of stepping to try to push the clock as high as possible.

Doesn’t seem like a result of a carefully well thought and prepared design but a panicked and precipitated one
hm I wonder why
?

I’m sure we’ll know more soon

Amazing and informative post Scarecrow.

I have a question though - would it be possible for Sony to just eliminate the variable speeds and just be a fixed 9.2TF instead of allowing developers to overclock it or is that not possible at this point?

Which one exactly please?

I remember about that it was like Armageedon these days, doom and gloom everywhere. It is not a victim complex or anything like that, it is a true reality, the double standard hypocrisy, Xbox must face it and find a way to circulvent it ir destroy it. You can’t escape it.

PS5 has the same RT implementation as XSX does. VRS and ML and mesh shaders are another story though.

Ha, I remember Thuway pulling that crap. At the time I actually had an inside source from the TXB forums who told me they were boosting clocks in the exact amount they were doing it so I guess I put Thuway’s FUD outta my mind. Was really odd since Thuway had literally no insider creds either iirc.

Thuway was definitely one of the ones spreading BS like it was true. But that was cboat which was the biggest imo.

He leaked a few stuff that was real to gain credibility then become a complete BS spreader that every single of his “leaks” turned out to be incorrect.

I remember when thuway kept posting his little :goat: emojis because he thought PS5 would be the :goat: because it would be 12-14tflops and Xbox would be 10. Lol at how he completely changed his tune when the truth came out, he is the true definition of a fanboy, and only make things worse for himself.

Man sony really scrambled to try and close the power gap. It’s crazy how they were out engineered this Gen when you think about it.

Not asking what is available or not!

Would you preorder without confirmation?

That’s what i asked :upside_down_face:

Wou can hope for tomorrow if you need the info.

Indeed, i give them credit if they overcome these challenges but when we look at this article and facts about the hardware they missed the mark. And this is not concern trolling, if the tables were turned I was say the same if it were xbox.

Again! Not asking for availability of info.

I basically know as much as Cerny has told about whats inside PS5.

The question was for those who didn’t care about this stuff and will buy the console regardless of the availability of these features.

I remember when CBOAT and Thuway talked about yield issues and down clocks at the start of last gen and it became a big issue that stuck and was a huge negative narrative against the Xbox one. Turns out it was all fake and xbox actually got an up clock and had no yield issues.

Funny to see a similar rumor start for the PS5 and the reaction is a spin in favor of Sony, “The PS5 is in such HUGE demand that Sony can’t make enough of them.” Or other non sense to play damage control.

It’s strange how the gaming world bends backwards to make sure everything appears great for Sony and also bends backwards to create FUD for Xbox.
