you can get the settings set to high and use the frame limiter to 40 and it pretty much stays at 40 fps while plugged in. now I had raytracing off as that affects the performance. I do think it could maybe be bumped to ultra settings but I think high is a good setting. use the frame limiter in game the one built into the rog ally has to be activated before launching the game
Not sure whatās up with that, but I wonder if it has a positive impact on battery life.
Curious what the situation is, and if itās just a setting(s) being reset to non-optimal value(s).
I love this device, definitely my PC Game Pass machine now. Although, I have been playing Diablo 4 on it which works awesome too.
Downloads on Xbox app are so slow. I can see only downloading smaller games, cause everything above 10gb takes forever.
He began with not so positive impression. Now, he has changed. Need more reviews to justify my move to buy one.
Thatās how it is for me on Steam over Wi-Fi as well, I decided to buy a game and if I want to get a decent download speed, I need to connect my laptop to router and install on the SSD otherwise it will be hours.
Anyone has an issue to launch Forza Horizon 5. Mine loads forever, splash screen appears then goes smaller and hangs like that ubtil just disappersā¦
Yeah downloads for anything I find are slow af let it run for awhile to get Lego Star Wars and death stranding
Just ordered one. Iām going to sell my desktop and try using this as my main PC. I donāt use my PC for much lately anyway. I use my company macbook for work and pretty much only game on my Series X or stream to my Odin. This way Iāll be able to stream to the Ally or play native depending on if the game has cross-save or play anywhere.
I received mine yesterday. Love it. I briefly had a Lenovo Go, still do I suppose - itās going back tomorrow, but for my purposes this is the device to get. Iām going on a trip in 3 weeks, Iām actually looking forward to the plane ride now.
Now to decide if an Anker 733 powerbank is the way to go, or if I can live without one. Many planes these days have power outlets available, so in those instances Iām good to go. Long layovers is another time when a good powerbank could come in handy. But itās a pricey sucker, especially here in Canada, so I donāt knowā¦ for now Iāll go without.
Iām definitely gonna have to get a case though. Thatās one thing the Lenovo Go had over the Ally that I already miss. The official Asus case doesnāt exactly light my hair on fire, but this one by Spigen looks like a good contender.
Anyone have any suggestions for a good case?
I canāt speak to the Ally in particular but Spigen cases have been my go-to for years for phone cases. Itās a different beast though.
I do!
After reading various reports that the Spigen case I linked above was a little too big (supposedly to accomodate grip attachments) and that the Ally would slide back and forth, risking micro-scratches to the screen, I decided to look elsewhere.
I ended up ordering this no-name one from Amazon and it arrived today.
Iām quite pleased with it. The Ally fits perfectly, with no risk of it sliding, and the power cord is stored underneath the unit instead of a mesh pocket on top, which is common.
My only slight complaint is that itās taller than it needs to be. Itās kind of odd, the lid is moulded to accomodate the Allyās controls, but itās so tall thereās no way that that was needed.
Itās no big deal, in fact Iām taking advantage of the extra space by storing my noise cancelling earbuds there. I only ever use them when traveling, so itās nice to be able to have everything in one box.
Here are some pictures:
Any Canadians interested in getting one of these may want to jump on this sale:
$699 is a fantastic deal for this amazing little machine.
This is very tempting, but I feel it might be better to wait and see what switch 2 looks like and same with steam deck 2. However, this feel very tempting that I might add it to my cart this week
I heard the Lenovo machine might be better though
I had it, and wouldnāt say itās better or worse. It depends on what you want.
Here are my thoughts on why I opted to return the Lenovo in favour of the Ally:
I am begging for Diablo to hit gamepass, so I can play the game on my Rog ally. Iāve been playing Justant and it works very well on the Rog Ally. I think I am going to finally start Pentiment
How is ROG Ally and would you recommend it? Also, whatās ups and downs?
If youāre able to get the ally on discount , then yes
Positives
- windows based , so itās very simple to use pc gamepass
- easy access to gamepass. Steam , and epic game store library
- device feels good in hand
- essentially a handheld pc
- amazing display and 120hz
- powerful machine, and games run well on it
- nice interface for customization of controls and set settings for games . Also can create profiles for each games
- turbo mode is great and can run a lot of games
- machine feels sturdy
Cons
- windows ui can be frustrating on handheld compared to a laptop/desktop experience , so not as smooth to control
- no trackpad which is a nice thing to have on steam deck
- ergonomic wise itās good but I found steam deck to be a bit more comfortable
- very short battery life , so make sure you have ways to connect to a power source, so it kinda hurts this device for travelling imo
- it gets a bit hot when in turbo mode
Overall for the price I got it for itās a 9/10 based on my current use case but the battery life kills it for travelling imo
