Anime and Manga Thread

I am not as well informed either but I went to check now and yeah, it’s still debated and contested from what I’m seeing. For all we know, it’s a combination of his taking long hiatus from writing due to myriad reasons including his severe back pain that he got from not just drawing too much but also from gaming too much in his early life. Also he can’t stick by tight deadlines that these studios have, combine that with having a very much successful celebrated mangaka as his wife who brings in a lot of revenue, there’s no urgency for him to work at the usual pace the manga industry expects.

Thanks for this, that’s good to know. It’s honestly very understandable too his reasons.

Now that we’re on the subject, I might go see if there’s a way to read the manga, pick up where the anime ends. Doubt CR has the manga though.

I would recommend reading the chapters after the anime ended, some really cool stuff happened which I would love to see animated

Its almost not worth it at the pace that it comes out, unless things have changed.

I haven’t started to get acquainted with anime that long ago and it;s very interesting to read your discussions)

Attack on Titan episode 54 now, just saw it. The first part of season 3 was great, lots of information, still lots of questions too, haha. A bit slower on the combat side. But then part 2, man…crazy shit. In some anime barely anyone dies and thus the sense of danger and suspense is not really always there, but here it sure is.

Spoilers incoming

What did they do to my boy Armin? Goddamn. His final strategy was fantastic though.i kept hoping he had survived this…somehow…but…I should’ve known. But the way they defeat Berthold and Reiner is awesome. And how super sweet was Levi going at beast titan?

Jesus…

Then it turns out they can save him, but it turns out Erwin is also still alive. Eren made superb arguments why Armin needs the injection just as much, I forgot how much that dude had done for everyone, wow. But then Levi deciding to give it to Armin after all. Powerful stuff. And giving Erwin his well deserved rest. One thing though, why are they calling that hero,Erwin, a devil?

This show is too much sometimes man, in a good way of course.

Re: Erwin

They call him a “Devil” because in reality, most of his plans involved him leading half of the survey corps into their demise, and while he was doing it he didnt have any regard for anyones lilfe that wasnt super important like Eren, Levi, and other main characters. HIs plans did work most of the time, but they almost always ended up with a slaughter of human life.

Oh boy it’s only getting started.

You are… completely right.

his gambles were quite something. Despite that all that, one awesome character.

Whaaaaat? For real? I like the sound of this!!!

Attack on Titan season 4, just started with it. Something is unclear to me…

So is this the past or present? I would say present because in terms of the age Reiner is, it wouldn’t add up. Since they only live 13 more years after becoming a Titan. The thing is…I remember how he didn’t have arms or legs at the end of season 3, but here he got a full body again. This is something that becomes clear later? I’m now on episode 2.

Unless I misremember, but the part where the Armored Titan is destroyed and Hange is about to just kill Reiner…I thought his arms and legs were gone.

I had to rewatch the last few episodes of Season 3 when Season 4 finally came out, too much real time lapsed between episodes so I forgot so much of what was going on.

From what I recall of Season 4, so much starts happening around episode 5.

As for your actual question, I honestly don’t remember those details well enough to answer.

for most of those things, you’ll get the answer/clarity watching the season.

It’s just that some of the stuff right now feels backwards to me, well …one thing really.

Marleyans despise Eldians because they are the devil. Yet they fully have Eldians in their squads but most of all they fully utilize Titans too. Then again in the real world people can be insanely backwards too. What I especially don’t get is why children like Gabi and her mates seem to think of the other Eldians as devils too. Probably brainwashed by their Marley superiors

you are asking the right questions and speculating the reasons and answers (and seem to be getting close in some cases). ALL this is by design. Do continue watching, you’ll get more clarity, I’m certain haha

I was in a very similar place coming into S4, but soon things started getting unravelled more and more. You’ll get some answers, more questions, it’s just the nature of the narrative at this point in the story. The scope of the story expands quite dramatically in S4, something I personally felt could have been more gradual. But either way, don’t worry that they’re skipping over major things with no explanation, chances are they might be saving it for a specific moment later on.

Watched all there is to watch of AoT now, well except for the second batch of OVA. I can watch those now.

Yes Ruthwik, I definitely agree with you that things could be more gradual.

I’ll put everything in the spoilers but on first viewing I have to say I have extremely mixed feelings on this. S1 I loved, S2 and S3 too because it was consistent, not too muddy, things were actually shown too. More on that in the spoilers now.

After the ending of S3 the start of S4 felt so strange, I was like wtf are these people but that became clear quite soon. But for some reason that I can’t really explain I never could really get into the Marley arc.

So we are told about Ymir, this is THE Ymir that was close, very close we find out with Historia? Probably not because how did she manage to live that long? She was the one that apparently made a deal with devils, according to Marley and when she died pieces of her spirit became Titans iirc.

We are told about a Titan war, we are told about a King Fritz, but all we see are some pictures while this is being told. This is one of my big complaints of the season, all this talk but no show. Show me parts of this Titan war, show me this king Fritz, show me this Ymir back then and how Titans were “born” give me something tangible.

The Eldians are claimed to be horrible people that committed atrocities, the same is said about Ymir but those are all things Marley say , while Eldians give a wholly different side of the story. That Ymir helped people build things and did good! How and why did this whole belief of Eldians = unspeakable devils start?

Wily Tybur. He shares the new fact that King Fritz actually ended the Titan war, ok cool. Wily says he’s done a lot to improve the social standing for Eldians, yet he sees Paradis Island as evil, and that the devils are there. These people are exactly the same as he got in Marley. Backwards as fuck, unless I am really missing stuff here.

At the end of S3 we saw Marleyan mofos create titans, but now they all need to be destroyed?

Smaller things that just seemed so random, out of the blue, wouldn’t have hurt to just show it. Like, all of a sudden Eren’s group has managed to get a airship? It felt out of the blue how Eren was sitting there , disguised as a wounded soldier, I get that this was the intention to throw people off but it still felt random, almost disconnected.

This Eren is also vastly different than at the end of S3. I get that at this point he has already talked to Zeke, but he changed drastically. Is nowhere near as emotional anymore, much darker, and like he barely cares anymore. The laugh after Sasha’s death was just…wtf man.

Then there’s things like the shogun story that the one lady talks about to Mikasa, important stuff about her past and it’s just told, we won’t see a thing. Will they show this in part 2? So many new things , too many things I feel and we don’t get the time to process it, let alone them showing it.

All of a sudden Historia is pregnant. It was talked about in one scene that she needs to bear a lot of children, and the next scene she’s pregnant… alright then.

Did Zachary really have to die? Wasn’t that extremely drastic?

Then some theories I have, but I could be way off here.

Eren says to Armin that the memories of Collosal titan, meaning Berthold has him visiting Annie and probably means he is starting to care about the enemy. He then goes as far as to say Mikasa is weak and he hates her, which obviously is bullshit because you don’t protect someone you hate from a Titan back in S2 finale. Was this to push her away because he knows she’ll never agree to his plan?

But also, he has eaten the Warhammer Titan, meaning he has her memories too. Could it be that this is changing him too? Because he really just got weird af on that airship ride back to Paradis Island, just totally not Eren at all.

I’m gonna watch several videos now to understand some stuff more, there’s stuff that doesn’t make sense to me, the whole point of it all honestly isn’t all that clear to me. Grisha, was he the bad guy? Did he want Titans to keep existing after all? Maybe I should have taken a break after S3 before watching 4 because man…a lot of flashbacks, a lot of shit told but not shown.

And sadly I guess I am not too fond of what the truth turned out to be. Throughout the first 3 seasons i started to think what could be going on, what big revelation is there and it’s just so different. Look at the start of season 1 and now with the knowledge of everything, it’s so different. I definitely didn’t think this is what the Titans are. Thought more like a experiment gone wrong and humanity has to survive and overcome them.

Perhaps if they actually show this Ymir and also how Titans came to exist I’ll dig it more.

I’ll go watch a video that explains the whole thing in one sitting, that will help me.

My head is spinning.

Check your DMs if you already haven’t.

Alot of really good questions . Most would be answered in part 2 , others wont . I’ll recommend you to not watch any explanation videos as you might get spoiled . Eren changed because his whole world views changed when he experienced his father’s memories , he is a broken man now .

Laid back camp is a very good anime to watch like, one episode a night of before bed. Both seasons are very relaxing and chill

Also Tower of god has a really nice art style, good animation, and a killer soundtrack from Kevin Penkin.
