Achievement Hunting |OT| Every point counts

What is insane is that this publisher has updated tons of games it published to change achievements requirements to make them a lot easier. Games like Cold Silence used to be somewhat difficulty and now they only require you to press some buttons lol

:craig: There is another publisher Ternox that has done 1 of their games to 2K. Hopefully Ratalika does not follow this trend because this is a slippery slope. Easy games are fine but this is a bit much.

I’m not really sure how TA doesn’t consider those types of completion cheating, but I’ll take it :grimacing:

I think its only cheating if we modify game files. It was bound to happen with more games got achievements on PC. Its a bit lame that we can do it this way but :woman_shrugging: I would guess gamerscore will get even easier this gen.

Completion #91: Pathologic 2

The Xbox App hasn’t even updated yet lol
  • Estimated Difficulty: 1/10
  • Estimated Time: 1 minute

Am I proud for this completion? Of course not. But I am 10 hours in AC Valhalla and haven’t unlocked a single achievement on that game, so give me a break :stuck_out_tongue:

Funnily enough, 19 achievements from this game are now in my Top 25 ratio according to True Achievement lol

Yeah I’m ambivalent about this kind of stuff. I wouldn’t say I’m vehemently opposed to easy gamerscore, and I’ve certainly taken advantage of it myself as well. Personally I just want a balance-- I want to be able to put completed games in my trophy case that I’m proud to show off. If I can do that I’m okay with having some fluff too. If my whole score was ONLY Ratalaika trash, sure I could still have a big number, but it wouldn’t be fun or something I’d enjoy showing off.

In a way it kinda sucks to think that someone else could match my gamerscore with 1-minute completions instead of 100-hour RPGs… but ultimately I’ve got to focus on my own fun and not worry about what other people do.

I liked the fact that ā€œbigger gamesā€ had a Platinum on the PS3 and ā€œsmaller gamesā€ didn’t. The same for the 360 with those 400g Arcade games.

The problem is that nowadays indie games are as much as a hit as many big retail games. Nonetheless, something should be done about this Gamerscore inflation.

Throwback to a Microsoft spokesperson when download-only games started to receive the same amount of Gamerscore as retail titles:

ā€œOn Xbox One games are games,ā€ a spokesperson told XBLA Fans. ā€œAll games follow the same policies for achievements and Gamerscore.ā€

Edit: Actually I agree with what Maka said about the Gamerscore system. It can’t be saved. Let all games have 1000g, no matter how easy they are. But implement a system that rewards rare and hard achievements and completions. That’s all it takes.

I strongly agree with the idea that games are games. Indie games deserve 1000G as much as AAA open world games do. Walking simulators deserve 1000G as much as hardcore FPS do.

And there’s always been huge variation in the amount of effort it takes to get 1000G. Some games are easy, some games are difficult.

It’s just in the last few years where there’s suddenly been a flood of easy, short, cheap games that seem to exist for no other purpose than selling gamerscore. Again I don’t necessarily want there to be some arbiter at Xbox that decides which games are ā€œreal.ā€ But if they don’t do something to push gamerscore back to the spirit of what it used to be, eventually it’s going to be so diluted that it will be hard for anyone to care. Maka has definitely got a point here.

Maybe MS needs some policy around what an achievement list should look like. If it’s obvious that the dev didn’t make a good faith effort to create an interesting and rewarding list, back to the drawing board. Like a platformer with 100 levels where you only need to beat the first 10 for the thousand, that’s obvious achievement bait.

I wonder if they used to have guidelines, and they went away at some point, or if it’s just that publishers suddenly realized that people would pay for shovelware with zero-effort lists. But it definitely feels like a switch flipped at some point in the past few years.

@brunopcosta1 requested an invite back to the leaderboard!

Crazy that they changed DIRT, wouldn’t be surprised if they add something like 5k in for DLC achievements.

@brunopcosta1 That DIRT 5 patch is gonna be a godsend. Gonna make sure I’m around 1000 miles, maybe just short of it, so that when the patch drops I can get it ASAP. I wasn’t planning to grind 200 or so hours for that thing lol. It’s telling nobody on TA has it yet.

Reminds me of the banana crate achievemnt in Sea of Thieves hehe.

awesome that they changed Dirt5, 1000 miles is already enough.

DIRT 5 hard crashed my Series X twice in like 15 minutes. I think I’ll wait for that patch for the final 200-300 miles.

Completion #90: Eastshade

Interesting game where you play as a painter who crashlands onto an island. You basically explore the island doing quests for people and occasionally solve puzzles/riddles. Game has a lot of bugs, but none that break achievements.

You are in. Glad to have you back!

Definitely! I can’t wait to get full completion on this game!

Now I wonder why they haven’t patched the requirements for that Grid achievement, which requires 80000+ miles lol

I playe for half an hour today with no crashes. I’ll play some more later today and I’ll report if anything happens.

I know it’s pretty late, but I sent a request to join. @brunopcosta1

Thanks! Man, my gamerscore is pretty lackluster compared to everyone else. If only I had more time to play games… :pensive:
