Yakuza / Like A Dragon |OT| That's Rad!

I am new to this thread, so please forgive me if this has already been discussed.

I am currently playing Like a Dragon and am in the middle of the Business Management mini-game. I’ve gotten the company up to a rank of about 30, but just got obliterated in a board meeting. I know the red-blue-green strategy so i don’t think that was causing the problem.

One thing I am concerned about is that all my employees are currently level 5 (they are locked there). I know there is some way to raise them above level 5, but I haven’t figured it out yet.

Anyway, any tips or advice on board meetings and employee leveling would be appreciated.

I forget how it works, but can’t you promote them or something like that?

Duh! Just found the promote button in the interface. I had never noticed it before.

Thanks.

Yup promoting them is key. I think by the end anyone I brought it got promoted all the way up and leveled straight to 30. Played that mini game a lot as you can get some easy money early plus the extra character is nice to have.

But before I got to that point my strategy was to find the one that would most likely be best the easiest (less health and was weak to my better employee) knock them out right away. Than wait till the next person would be almost completely filled and challenge them. Make sure to get the shields gone and try to finish them if possible. Again wait and I would keep doing that till I could do the 2nd apologies as that freezes them giving me more time to get my points back. (Plus I think promoting your employees gives you more points to work with so that would be something to think about when promoting your employees.

I had bait, I was just not understanding the main mechanic of actually catching the fish, but I saw a video and now I’m good

Maybe it won’t be necessary as part of the money-making scheme. As a sidenote, VR really is a fantastic way to break the game. In two moderately successful sessions, I made enough money to turn ~6300 SP into ~27000 SP.

Glad to hear it  0 really got its hooks in you huh?

Also, I finished Yakuza 4 today, so some thoughts:

The story was, uh… I dunno. They went quite a bit overboard with all the backstabbing. However, I do think the story had some excellent moments throughout. Saejima’s speech in the coliseum, for example. Kiryu’s long battle in Kamurocho Hills was also really good, perhaps one the best long battles in the series. And I sure do love my long battles in Yakuza games. The finale was pretty great too, RGG finales are usually like that. I mean, 4 bosses in a row, with you getting to play everyone one last time? Great stuff. Aside from the final boss. Let’s not talk about that though. But anyway this game felt kinda laid-back to me. And I liked it. The excellent music certainly helped. The game also introduced 3 great playable characters in Tanimura, Saejima, and Akiyama. Additionally it also improved on Yakuza 3 quite a bit, so I’d say this is a nice entry into the series.

Now I really wish we’d see Tanimura reappear in the series. Will it actually happen? Probably not. But a man can dream.

I’ve only got Yakuza 5 and 6 left. Probably won’t get to them till 2022 due to the influx of new releases from now on, but the end of the Kiryu saga is coming closer. I’m sure it’ll be bittersweet. I do really feel like replaying Yakuza 0 at some point, however. And I’m typically someone who never replays games.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I think that 4 and 6 probably have the dumbest stories overall. Not necessarily bad, but they ask a lot of your suspension of disbelief. 5 looks and plays a bit differently from 4, so keep that in mind.

As for Tanimura (Yakuza 5) are you sure you want to see this spoiler? OK: they at least have some fun with his absence in the lead-up to the Amon fight.

Ha, personally I grew up watching stuff with the dumbest shit ever in terms of plot. So I’ve grown to not mind it all that much when a story pulls crazy stuff that realistically wouldn’t make too much sense.

Well aware. It somewhat serves as a foundation for 0, no?

Hm. Well, I’m interested in seeing that for myself when I play 5.

Probably! It was the last mainline game to come out before 0 so that seems likely. As for the spoiler I posted, I hope it didn’t take the wind out of your sails :frowning:

Don’t worry. I usually don’t go for Amon so I would have missed that.

Glad to hear it! That was part of the reason I thought it might be ok, so I’m glad it didn’t ruin anything for you.

To the thread in general: Judgment is on sale (in the US at least). I’m playing through it now myself, and enjoying it quite a bit. If you can’t get enough Yakuza, this might be the time to get it before the sequel comes out in September!

Edit: looks like some of the other games are on sale, if you’re afraid they’ll leave Game Pass soon:

After 6-7 month I have finished the Kiryu Saga.

A journey I will remember that’s for sure.

Good thing is you still have Yakuza Like a Dragon and the Judgment series ahead of you.

Yep but I need a little break! Watching The Blacklist right now and will soon start with The Ascent

Looking like this might have the best mini games in the series.

I loved LAD minigames, it will be hard to beat them.

Beat Judgment and it was very good and I liked how it felt like a grounded Yakuza. The story was interesting and I really like the main characters. i think there are some mechanic issues with the game like the tailing missions are awful, and I wasn’t big on the drone racing minigame. Also some of he side missions didn’t capture me as much as previous games because I felt alot of them entailed tailing, which was a drag. Anyways, I feel its one of the best entries in the yakuza/judgment franchise. Also I am okay with using Yagami for traditional Yakuza gameplay and Ichiban for the RPG style.
