I think there’s one more expansion for Outlaws scheduled for some time in 2025.
Well, I spent some time trying to work on a priority list for my backlog in 2025. The number one thing I realized is that I own lots of great games I may never get around to playing. I started to get discouraged when my “I really want to play this” list exceeded 50 games - and I had not even come close to looking at everything in the backlog.
With that said, here’s where I plan to devote most of my time in 2025:
- Yakuza: Infinite Wealth
- Jedi Survivor
- Dragon Quest XI
- Doom Eternal
- CyberPunk Phantom Liberty DLC
- Starfield Expansion
- Powerwash Simulator DLC
- Valkyria Chronicles 4
- RE 4
- RE 8
- Inscryption
- Trails into Reverie
- Trails through Daybreak
- Kingdom Come Deliverance
Given all the games releasing this year (on Game Pass alone) I probably won’t finish the list above, but at least I have a little direction now.
I started the first four games on the list in 2024 and have made good progress on some of them, so hopefully those completions won’t take too long.
If by some miracle I finish all of the above, then the next tier to attack includes (in no particular order):
- Dead Space
- Prey
- Disgaea 2
- Little Nightmares 1
- Little Nightmares 2
- South Park: Fractured But Whole
- Tales from the Borderlands
- New Tales from the Borderlands
- Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands
- Divinity Original Sin 1
- Divinity Original Sin 2
- Pillars 1 + DLC
- Pillars 2 + DLC
- Dredge
- Into the Breach
- Cult of the Lamb
- Death Stranding
- Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines
- Final Fantasy IV
- Final Fantasy V
- Final Fantasy VI
@profjjj I can personally recommend the following, hopefully that helps:
Dragon Quest Xi, the game that started my love of the series
RE 4, the game that pivoted the series to a more action oriented feel
RE 8, the game that started my love of the series
Inscryption, the game with the greatest ending of all time
Dead Space, an underrated survival horror
Prey, the best Arcane game yet
South Park: Fractured But Whole, a somehow funnier sequel
Tales from the Borderlands, the funniest Telltale point and click
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, one of the best spinoff ever
Divinity Original Sin 1+2 & Pillars 1, all great RPGs
For the month of December, I completed the following -
- Indiana Jones and the Great Circle - 8.5/10
- Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 - 8.0/10
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 - 8.5/10
- Dead Island 2: Haus - 7.0/10 (expansion)
- Dead Island 2: Sola - 8.0/10 (expansion)
My Xbox Series X/PlayStation 5 backlog going into 2025 -
- Cyberpunk 2077
- Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty
- Diablo IV
- Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred (A)
- Fantasian Neo Dimension (A)
- Final Fantasy XVI: Echoes of the Fallen (PlayStation 5)
- Final Fantasy XVI: The Rising Tide (PlayStation 5)
- Horizon Forbidden West: The Burning Shores (PlayStation 5)
- Like a Dragon: Ishin (A)
- Remnant II: The Awakened King
- Remnant II: The Forgotten Kingdom
- Remnant II: The Dark Horizon
- Star Ocean: The Divine Force
- Star Wars Outlaws (B)
- Star Wars Outlaws: Wild Card (B)
- Visions of Mana
- Y’s X: Nordics (A) (PlayStation 5)
That’s my entire backlog consisting of 8 base games and 9 expansions. I do have to replay Horizon Forbidden West and Final Fantasy XVI in order to access their respective expansions since I didn’t keep the save files which is on me. I will have seven weeks starting tomorrow (12/29) until I play my first new game release of 2025 - Avowed. Will be starting Visions of Mana tomorrow. Working Wednesday/Thursday but Friday January 3rd starts my 17 day vacation so should be able to easily get through it and see what else I can eliminate before Avowed releases.
(A) = Haven’t purchased yet. Not sure when I will do so. Leaning towards purchasing them when I actually want to play them.
(B) = Will be played via Ubisoft+. I may play Outlaws after Mana, however, I may hold off until after Avowed so I can play a “shooter” in between Avowed and Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Won’t decide this until after I complete Mana.
Overall, not that bad at all and im curious to see what I have left in my backlog once I start playing Avowed in February.
I really enjoyed Outlaws, so I look forward to your thoughts on the DLC. I also loved the demo for Fantasian, so hopefully you’ll post some about it as you play through it, instead of leaving me in suspense until you complete it.
Since everyone else is doing it…
My backlog is unfathomable.
I completed about 125 games in 2024, which is most certainly a record. Some of that was due to this event, but some was also due to my other competitions for GS and completion percentage.
My goals for 2025 is to actually START much of my backlog, to narrow down which ones I actually want to complete and which ones I am OK skipping, as well as to complete the games that I have paid full price for, to actually get my money’s worth. Here’s a list of those uncompleted full price games:
Fallout 4
Home front Revolution
Mass Effect Andromeda
Halo Wars 2
Syberia 3
Shadow of Tomb Raider
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
Doom Eternal
Rage 2
Metro Exodus
Sinking City
Syberia The World Before
I would also like to complete any games I helped Crowd fund, including the following already received:
System Shock
Sherlock Holmes Awakened
Pathfinder Kingmaker
Dungeon Defenders Awakened
Cosmic Star Heroine
I’m eyeing a few more games in the sales, so not 100 % on the plan for next year yet. Dragon Age: The Veilguard will be first though, that much I know.
Lots of new games coming too and at least the ones coming to Game Pass will disrupt the backlogging a bit.
My backlog……yeesh…I dunno….a few hundred…maybe over 1000. Between all platforms (Xbox/Nintendo/PS/PC).
I was going to say, I did a rough count and my Xbox One/Series backlog is over 1000, alone. When I started adding 360, PS3, Vita, PSP, Switch, Wii U, GCN, Wii, DS, GBA, GBC, Genesis, Saturn, DC, SNES, N64, and 3DS (I’m missing some here too but you all get the point), the count exceeded a realistic amount one can beat in their lifetime lol. At least I have backlog challenge fodder for decades
I could never buy another game the rest of my life and still probably not make a dent.
Haha yeah, I’m way north of the 1k mark as well. I have been dividing it into tiers to make it more manageable. Problem is the top tier, with games I reaaally want to play, is still in the many hundreds. Ah well, hope to make a real dent in it this year.
I played a few hours of the Fantasian demo. Loved it and is what made me decide to eventually buy it. The bigger issue is that I just don’t know when im going to play it. As for Outlaws, when I do play it, I will play the base game and Wild Card expansion back to back to be caught up. Just don’t know when I will do so. Hehe. lol
I love you for using that gif. The preach meme and the Spice Girl/Dafoe meme are my signatures, so I greatly appreciate a Dafoe face swap.
I’m thinking of maybe using a randomizer once I’ve decided on this year’s pool of games… Could be a fun way to decide what to play when.
One ticket for the Backlog 2025, please!
Picked a few games up in the holiday sales.
- Deadly Premonition
- Killer 7
- Grim Dawn
- The Forest
- Divinity Original Sin
- Artificial Dream in Arcadia
- Tales of symphonia - £5 physical
All but one are for steam and hopefully I can start knocking some games off the steam backlog.
Awesome!
Happy New Year everyone! Had a few games that I was working on but didn’t finish in time for last year’s challenge, but now I’ve done just that.
-
+1 - Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer (XSX) - Beat both the standard game and all tracks on mirrored mode with first-place wins. The game’s still just as fun as it was when I first picked it up on N64, but I will say the “remaster” is as barebones and as lackluster of a port as you can get (but given that it’s Aspyr, and I was one of the only people looking at KOTOR with a massive side-eye, I’m not at all surprised… expecting quality from them is a losing man’s game).
-
+1 - Metal Gear Solid 1: Master Collection (XSX) - I love Kojima and MGS, despite all the misgivings I have about the misogyny and juvenile, and utterly absurd and redundant, dialog and the first entry in the Solid series hasn’t aged well at all. I still enjoyed reliving those early 3D stealth days, but I’d be lying if I said there’s quite a bit of narrative/gameplay decisions that haven’t aged well… also, as as an original MG fan, I’m going to say Twin Snakes is absolutely the superior romp through the first game.
Total = 2
Do games played during the December grace period count for this year’s challenge?
No. The grace period is a double edged sword. Games don’t count against you, but they don’t count for you either.
