XboxEra's 2024 Backlog Challenge |OT| Surely this is the year?

I’m not in the competition but if I was, I would go with the shortest games and try to knock out several of them in order to gain a lead and breathing room.

I need a little more to go on to give a recommendation. Have you narrowed down the candidates at all?

I feel attacked.

Haha. lol

No reason to feel that way. I think that’s what everyone should do if they want to win the competition but if it’s a situation like, if I win, great but if I lose, who cares then play what you want but if it was me and I wanted to win, that’s the strategy that I would use early on and see how it goes.

Fully 100% completed The Grand Tour last night. +1ish

Overall, I think the game was pretty decent in hitting a goal of tying into the show and making it seem like the show was interactive, having challenges that fit to the episode. These were sometimes fun, sometimes annoying, sometimes super easy to get a gold, sometimes insanely difficult unless you played an area perfectly and drifted every corner just right.

The game seemed to reuse map content a lot including in places that just didn’t make sense, but it also had a bit of variety. I also did at least 200 split screen races to get 50 wins per presenter (including Abbie).

It looks like fewer than 800 people on True Achievements have completed all of the episodes 100% so this might be my most rare completion. This could have used more time from Amazon to get it a bit better, and i think it would have done better with some tightening up on the controls, but for $15 when it came out, it did a great job of turning a lot of their episodes into playable mostly enjoyable challenges.

I had never heard of the game before, seems cool if you are a fan of the show. Congrats on the completion!

As for points, looking at TA all the DLC are included updates? It’s hard to find info about it since it’s been delisted. The DLC we count for points are the bigger, paid ones.

An example I’m more familiar with, since I’m in the middle of my playthrough but took a break, is Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey. Has a bunch of DLC (19), but the ones that would count are Legacy of the First Blade and The Fate of Atlantis with 0.5 points each. These two DLC do have three episodes each, but those won’t give points individually either. The other DLC’s are Mythical creatures and The Lost Tales of Greece, but those are included updates to the game so they don’t give me any points.

AC Odyssey with all it’s DLC would give me 1+0.5+0.5=2 points total.

Not sure how to handle your game here… What does everyone else think? Anyone else played it?

I’m honestly fine calling this a 1, because the extra content was all included but I don’t think any reviews looked at anything beyond the first two episodes so it was a little weird (becaus essentially it got scored based on 2/15ths of the game or something like that).

Yeah, it’s a very odd situation and I have no knowledge of the game either so that doesn’t help.

I have a few DLC heavy games coming up from the backlog where I have no idea what to count either hehe. Arkham Knight for example has like 20 DLC or something lol, but that one I hope people have played and can have more input on.

Yeah I realized that afterward - was really just hoping someone would name a random game, hopefully I hadn’t beaten it, and taken off from there. I ended up picking Metroid Prime Remastered back up from where I left it last year and am burning through that one again - won’t be getting 100%, still have my GCN save and have nothing to prove these days lol. Absolutely love the Prime trilogy.

Nice. I hear great things about that game, but have not played it (and not in the backlog).

I don’t know anything about this game either, but I don’t recall us ever giving credit for free updates.

I think the general principle is you had to make a conscious decision to buy it, but had never played it, to get credit.

I found Dead Space 2 to be the best in the trilogy, if you haven’t played that…

Other random recommendations: Guardians of the Galaxy, AI: The Somnium Files, Spec Ops: The Line.

Here’s the thing… I’ve started every Dead Space (took a long time to realize my game-jumping habits were an expression of my ADHD), so I can still replay you the beginning of that game from memory because it was so impactful. I just beat the first section and thought that I really should beat the first before I dove into this one… then gave up when I got to the Leviathan on Hard. Eventually started it back up in 2022 on Medium (from scratch) and played the whole thing with my wife as the co-pilot (the only way I can play these damn games these days).

Guardians of the Galaxy and Spec Ops The Line are great games so I also recommend them.

Really enjoyed spec ops so another vote for that.

Missed this part of your comment: great recommendations! I have already beaten Guardians of the Galaxy (my favorite Marvel game from last gen and one of the ONLY original stories we’ve gotten in game form, and that it’s great is a testament to Eidos.

Started and immediately loved AI, need to beat both of those and also still need to beat Spec Ops. Thanks for some inspiration my friend

Spec Ops is great. One of the most unique shooters ever.

Great, glad I could be of assistance.

GotG is criminally underrated, really enjoyed that one.

AI is waaay out of my comfort zone, but I was convinced to give it a try and loved it. I’ve only started the sequel, other games came in between, but I intend to finish that soonish.

Spec Ops is brilliant.

Enjoy!

So… I know I pivoted to a couple suggestions, I also remembered the PSO New Genesis campaign completion event was about to end, so I’m going to finally get through this slog of a campaign (I love the original PSO and Ep 1 and 2).

I’m trying to get through my Xbox 360 hitman absolution now. Also have been playing psychonauts 2 and another telltale game. And I rewatched Psychoodyssey recently, absolutely amazing but doesn’t count toward getting games done
