XboxEra's 2024 Backlog Challenge |OT| Surely this is the year?

With my ridiculous backlog, maybe its time for me to compete this year. Everyone is going to get a nice fat headstart from me being mid-Act 2 in Baldur’s Gate - but once that’s done I’ve got a mountain to climb.

Game on!

Excellent! Welcome.

I’ve also started Baldur’s Gate 3 so you are in good company

Mort. Every time you say Welcome, I imagine you saying it like the merchant from RE4 :joy:

Mafia DE and Mafia 2 are some of my favorite mob games; I think you’ll like the sandbox because it isn’t littered with GTA-style activities left and right. You could say the world feels deader as a result but I would disagree, with explanation, and feel like the setting does a lot more favors to the goals of the game (it’s about telling a story, with a few sidequest style events, but mostly it almost plays like an old school RPG with clear limits on when and what you can do, in order to push you through the story). Play Mafia 2’s early chapters every winter since they’re set in Christmas/winter

3 is also still good, has some incredible characters and beats (especially if you go in order), unfortunately it’s pretty damn repetitive :frowning:

Haha, had to google it but yeah that’s about right :joy:

Im working through Dead Island 2 at the moment. The gore is awesome.

I cleared Mafia 1 and 2 off my backlog a year or two ago. Still have 3 to go.

I enjoyed both games quite a bit.

I knew there was a reason I put them in the backlog in the first place, sounds great.

I have also heard that Mafia 3 can be repetitive, but I hope the story and characters can carry it enough. That setting is probably the most intriguing and a bit unexplored.

Great! It’s why I picked it up too, it looks like some stupid fun and the gore seems very…detailed.

Its more difficult than I expected and there are no difficulty settings. Not insurmountably hard, just harder than expected. My only complaint is the way it just materializes zombies out of nowhere. And I dont even mean in a clever way. Like…you walk into a room and it literally appears like it was beamed in from the enterprise right in front of you.

But then you knock its face off with a shovel and everything is right with the world again.

Haha. Well, I’m not a fan of monster closets either but if the gameplay is rewarding enough it’s ok. I think every clip I’ve seen has been mostly melee combat, but there’s guns etc. too surely?

Monster closet wouldn’t be accurate. I’m talking …like…you are walking down the street and 10 ft in front of you a zombie begins materializing on the ground.

So far it has been entirely melee. I haven’t found a single projectile weapon yet. But I do believe they are in the game. But, like Melee with enhancements, like it sets them on fire and such.

Oh, haha. Yeah that sounds…interesting.

I see, sounds brutal and fun though.

Yeah its nice having a lot less distractions and a good story and setting to play through although loving AC Odyssey at minute which seems like you could spend ages clearing everything but I’m just doing the odd side missions and focusing on main quests. I don’t think Mafia would have been as good for me if it was too stretched.

You playing on console or PC or both? What do you think about P5 tactitc? Have been wanting to play an Xcom like game for a while but not sure how close it is.

Console! Although I might be getting a decent rig soon (then I’ll definitely be finishing Chrono Trigger)!

I’m not usually a tactics player, but I enjoyed P5T enough! The story was solid enough too. Music was also excellent (I mean, it is Persona). Definitely worth checking out if you’re interested!

Just beat Front Mission Evolved… it was fine. Nothing to write home about and as a Front Mission fan, I’d prefer any sequel to be in the vein of the originals (really happy for the remasters though). Some of the worst voice acting too…

+2 so far for me

OK. I’m on the board. Just finished Mortal Kombat 11 and the Aftermath DLC.

+1.5

I suck at 2D fighters and have not ever played a Mortal Kombat game (since the arcade), but I heard 11 had a great story mode, so I picked it up on a Steam sale at some point.

My only exposure to the Mortal Kombat mythology was through the movies, so I was not sure what the experience was going to be like picking up the story at part 11 (ha), but I had no problem identifying characters and following the plot.

I have some quibbles with the game, but overall I had great fun with this. The story was epic and WAY more cinematic than I was expecting. I think there were about 5-6 hours of cutscenes through the main game + DLC which were all very well done.

Since I suck at fighters I was playing on easy, but I still had a real challenge in some fights.

Highly recommended if you enjoy fighting games and want a long, but compelling story.

I love MK, and even used to be an MK-lore aficionado when I was younger (I was/am a massive nerd, I’m fine with it) and I got through MK11’s story but had to catch my eyes from rolling down the hall on numerous occasions… but then I realized that NR is at the point where they’re just having fun with all the crazy time/dimension antics. Was a good time, the wife did not review it nearly as positively as I did lol.
