I… think I’m going to try and compete this year. Need to be on a spending freeze anyway, but I’ve already been taking a nostalgia tour the last couple weeks and beating some oldies from the backlog 
So my question for the masters of the competition (@Mort): if I just decided to compete but I already bought a couple games at the start of the year, do those count?

It’s early days so I would say you can and should come in with a clean slate. We had some extensions for sales etc. allready anyway. It’s all good.

Just wanted to report that I beat my first game of the backlog for this year: Resident Evil Remake. Technically, I beat Chris’s run the other day but I didn’t consider it complete until I beat both runs.
Just for clarity, we don’t need to get every achievement or unlockable, correct?
If not, then I guess +1 for me.

Yep, a game is considered completed if at least the story/campaign is finished, or if it doesn’t really have one then we can if needed just come to an agreement here on whether it’s enough or not. No 100% or all achievements necessary!

An early completion for me as Mafia DE story complete. A nice 12 hour completion that didn’t out stay its welcome with good variety of missions/chapters. I wasn’t a fan of some of the shooting mechanics and probably should have upped aim assistance from low or I could blame phantom stick drift putting me off my shots and not age lol
That leaves Assassins Creed Odyssey and Yakuza 6 on rotation on the xbox. I’ve added Xenoblade Chronicles 2 on the switch to my playlist. Last played August last year and 35 hours in. Ive dropped the difficulty to easy as just didnt fancy the grind given the amount of stop starts with this game but do find the story fun.
So with those 3 it may be a bit longer for my next completion but doing this challenge is focusing me more on completions rather than sales

Haha the craziest thing is I usually don’t even make the top 3 or 5 on my Gamerscore leaderboards.

Its definitely worth a play if you fancy that setting and era given relatively short completion time. I played the third when it came out and now done with first leaving just the second but thats in a separate backlog pile. Not sure how ended up in that order

Haha, that is an interesting order of playing them indeed. But yeah, the setting is cool so looking forward to it. It’s funny when you have a backlog so big, you end up picking up remasters/remakes of some of the games in it and add those… Ah well.
