Welcome aboard!
First completion of the year!
Im about halfway through my second one (super mario RPG). Gonna try to finish it tomorrow before I go back to work on Thursday.
I picked up several games as well. I don’t remember all off the top of my head, but the most notable ones are:
- Alan Wake Remastered and Alan Wake 2 (for a combined $30 or something on the Epic store)
- Trails from Reverie
- Spiderman 2
- Several One Piece games
Despite all those new games, and my already massive backlog, I have spent almost every gaming moment over the last several weeks on my second playthrough of Baldur’s Gate 2… That game has just gotten under my skin like few others - very much like Dragon Age Origins did back in the day - though BG3 is a better game than DAO in almost every way.
I was thinking about getting Alan Wake 2 as well but decided to wait. I think I will like it a lot but I still have Quantum Break and Control in the backlog and should get to those first hehe.
I have also started Baldur’s Gate 3, and it is indeed an amazing game so far. It’s funny you make the comparison to Dragon Age: Origins, I was thinking along the same lines even though I haven’t played BG3 that much yet.
In general, your backlog in never ending bud. lol
I played Anthem when it was added to EA Play a few years ago. Loved the visuals, the combat and flying around was awesome but a few missions in, you have to go through a stronghold which requires other players so if you’re a solo player like me, you won’t be able to advance the story. Other than that, game was pretty good but a lot of baffling design decisions. For example, it’s a looter shooter and obviously, you get loot in the open world but you CAN’T equip it until you go back to your HUB area. Stuff like that just makes you scratch your head. EA should have given BioWare another two years because there was a lot of potential and some good stuff in the game but the negatives simply far outweighed the positives.
+1 - Super Mario RPG
It was charming and generally enjoyable at first, but by the end I couldn’t wait for it to be over. If you take away the charming Nintendo veneer it’s a pretty mediocre game.
The six challenge door part near the end was awful. Two of the doors I picked were just long hallways where you do one boring battle after another just walking in a straight line.
Haha, I will defeat it.
Yeah, Anthem seems like one of the biggest missed opportunities ever. Is there really no way to complete the story solo? That would suck… ah well.
Nice! Game sounds horrible tho lol.
Yeah, I never really played it on the SNES so I don’t have any nostalgia for it. The charm of Nintendo characters is doing all the heavy lifting.
The Switch was my first Nintendo console and I just don’t get it hehe. Most games I’ve tried are mediocre at best, but somehow gets a pass becuse they have recognisable characters.
My first two consoles were the NES and SNES (first gaming system was the C64), but even as someone who grew up with Nintendo and generally still enjoys their games, I think this is indisputable when it comes to modern Nintendo. They get away with stuff that no one else would by coasting on their history.
For every 1-2 games that Nintendo releases that are masterclasses in gaming like Breath of the Wild or Metroid Prime, they release far more that are run of the mill. Those modern Pokémon games would get absolutely lambasted if they weren’t associated with Nintendo/recognizable franchise.
For sure. We laugh at shit like Kong, Gollum etc. but at Nintendo that level of quality is GotY-candidates… haha.
Haha. Yeah, eventually. lol
As far as im aware, no. I was enjoying the game but couldn’t progress because I have no interest in playing online with others. Shame because up to that point, was probably an 8 or so overall for me.
Ive been a long time lurking here but jumping in on this in attempt to tackle some of my ever increasing backlog and also stop being distracted by something new. I’d already short listed a number of games for 2024 as below so will be focusing on these and trying to ignore sales this year.
Current games being played:
Assassins Creed Odyssey - I’m only 15 hours but looking at first achievement I must have started in Nov 2021!! I picked it up again last month so looking to getting more into this. Playing as Kassandra and enjoying the story and writing.
Mafia Definitive Edition - picked up in a previous sale so been playing last few days. Again enjoying the story.
Yakuza 6 - bought when on sale when playing previous games. Finished Yakuza 0 back in 2020 and didnt think we’d get so many new Yakuza games. Looking forward to some kind of conclusion to this series but the next ones.
Games wanting to play:
Dragons Dogma Dreamfall Chapters Forgotten City Judgment Yakuza Like A Dragon Tales of Arise
I also have Starfield and Forza but latter is more for online but out on hold for now.
Like everyone else there is plenty more on the backlog but thats my thoughts on what to tackle. I’m looking to avoid buying new this year or add anything new till end of year. I’m the same with 4k discs so put purchases on hold unless something unique.
Hopefully that makes sense as typing on my tablet and needing a rest. Looking forward to the challenge!
Welcome! Sounds like you will fit in perfectly here
Excellent choice. I’m in the middle of my playthrough of it as well, but got distracted by shiny things (Starfield and now Baldur’s Gate 3) and will continue it soon. Kassandra is soo good, probably my favourite AC protagonist so far.
It’s good to put up resonable goals, wish I knew how haha. But yeah, welcome to the challenge!
Welcome!!!
A bunch of visual novels on steam:
+1 Something Strange.
+1 Go For A Punch! Saki Sanobashi
+1 q.u.q
+1 Tricolour Lovestory.
All of them just take at most +5 hours to complete and I had a -1 with Dea by Daylight so that would leave with +3 points.
Question for the group. I prepurchased Final Fantasy Rebirth during our dead period. I hardly ever buy games before release, and I can’t remember if we have a rule about that.
Do I need to start the year with a " -1" since the game doesn’t release until next month, or do I get a free pass since I bought it during the dead period?
You get a free pass since you bought it during that period! It’s how we’ve done it before with pre-orders
Yeah, last year I had pre-ordered stuff in the prior year when they were announced and it didnt count against me.
