XboxEra Community Hangout |OT9| Waiting for Developer_E3

My perception is the opposite;

A large swath of gamers have convinced themselves to expect nothing and like it.

Phil Spencer is awesome at marketing but he would be a lot more effective if he had more games to sell.

PS5 is mostly smoke and mirrors.

Nintendo Switch has relied way too heavily on Wii U ports.

Truth is there should be more games for all 3 platforms. Xbox has been the best between Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo. And obviously Xbox has a huge influx of content coming, nevertheless I feel it should be more. Basically the games take too long to be greenlit. A rule of thumb of modern Xbox leadership is by the time the game is just getting started, better management would be halfway done by that point. Just because the competition is doing poorly doesn’t mean you should use that as an excuse to also move so slow.

This ^^ :slightly_smiling_face:

Download the citymapper app when you’re here and you’ll be fine.

Xbox just does not push the developers to produce the games because they don’t need to respond to the stakeholders.

The difference is Kinect was actually really good, it was fantastic family fun and you didn’t need any other pricey wired/wireless peripherals (other than Kinect itself).

The last thing I want to do after work is have a wired screen stuck to my face.

It was also cheap

Or for example to fall due to the wire

I’ve never been in New York at Christmas time, so I can’t compare. I just know it was the most extravagant display I’d ever seen. It’s an experience going there regardless of time of year, so I don’t think you’d regret the visit. Just know it’s not exactly an inexpensive place.

Thats a fair point about the wire and high cost.

Here’s a way to view this from my perspective.

And now we have full immersion with this…

I’m ready for games to evolve so I’m willing to take the leap. I’m old, I’m not a pc gamer. I’ve essentially been waiting for this moment lol

Bullseye.

This feels Vita vibe, which is a bit concerning.

TBH I love lightguns too, but I’d rather see a wireless Sinden lightgun instead of VR (I’m just not a fan of it).

I’m not a pc gamer so no for that. I did load up on Switch light gun games for my son’s 7th birthday in a week, so I will try that for the first time. I bought him house of the dead, big Buck hunter, and a few others with the guns obviously.

I got my first ps vr for 300 with move controllers and a game. . I showed it to some family members who had kids and they liked it but when they heard i payed 300 for it they were like no way. the mass market of casuals doesnt think its worth it especially at 550. hell its 550 plus the cost of a console

The damage would have been softened if it works on PC and backward compatible. They’re going to pray for Horizon to be the Alyx of this platform. Okay, perhaps too much to ask, it just needs to be good. Like really, really good.

Hm, does it count to VR game? Because I like to pray a game that is godlike to release after Horizon VR? It can be a tradition. Already is so far.

No, the games take too long to make.

So, it’s not the fact that AAA games take long to make, or that Xbox 1st party literally effectively started in 2018, on top of that COVID hit… no, it’s not that simple math, it’s gotta be Xbox leadership intervening somehow and slowing game development… for some reason.

Phil is the best in the business. COVID was also a major factor like you said. Also, gotta give credit where credit is due, and purchasing Bethesda, Activision, and many others was indeed very recent. I acknowledge that Xbox has some big years ahead.

All that said, yeah I’m still critical. Killer Instinct and a Dead or Alive Xbox exclusive (rumor is that studio was having trouble with financial issues). Also Xbox should make themselves a bigger presence in fighting tournaments maybe even buy the rights to ā€œe3ā€namebrand and have that coexist or compete with PlayStation biased EVO.

Compete more directly with Nintendo. Obviously buying Sega would be ideal, but owning Crash Bandicoot is a good start. There should be a mascot fighter, racer, and party game. Not to mention a exclusive AAA platformer, presumably Crash, but ideally Sonic.

Lots more themed consoles with pack in bundles. Really every quarter there should be a new themed Series X or S. Starfield better get a special edition Xbox. Doesn’t just have to be first party. Stuff like Cyberpunk Elden Ring or NCAA Football 2023.

Fallout is the elephant in the room. Everyone knows it it needs a game.

Basically every major franchise needs at least 1 new game every generation. Doom, Wolfenstein, Fallout, Halo, Forza, Forza Horizon, Crash Bandicoot, Tony Hawk, Elder Scrolls, Gears of War, StarCraft, Warcraft…

If your big game misses a generation then you’ve failed. Looking at you Grand Theft Auto!

So no disrespect but it seems you’re one of the people described above who think game development is a linear straightforward process that only needs a wish, a budget, and a developer, and a game will be made automatically.

You list your wishlist, which if it something like that does happen, it would be great for you, us and Xbox, so hurrah! why isn’t it happening? Is Xbox not interested in its own interest? Are they purposefully NOT doing all those easy things you describe that would be to their benefit?!

I won’t play VR games until VR is a simulation room like in The Orville.

haha love that show.

Orville is pretty great :+1:

I’m in the minority by speaking up. Most people have a sit down, blend in, and keep quiet attitude when it comes to game companies these days. God forbid we know things and have opinions about a hobby that we’ve been a part of our entire lives. :sunglasses:

That’s not an opinion. That’s a weird form of entitlement
