I prefer having this thread, and then having separate threads for major news. I think key to solution is to have this thread and create new threads about interesting news and whatnot
Hmm, I do feel this thread absorbs a lot of attention on the site. One reason I made the JRPG OT was because it was starting to feel a bit odd just dumping unboxing pictures of some JRPG I just got in this thread, or posting about about games that arenât on Xbox (like when I used to post about my progress in the Trails games in this thread lol).
I do often notice that people talk about acquisitions and TV shows and stuff in this thread even though thereâs threads for those.
There is a lot of âshooting the shitâ posts here that donât really fit anywhere else though.
Enjoying all the feedback folks - it is useful, and donât be too concerned, itâs a community site, you guys are the bosses in a lot of ways (much as I joke about being a benevolent dictator) - just try to understand that my goal is to promote and grow a healthy community - and members hiding out in one or two megathreads is not useful to promote that goal.
What Iâm hearing is that folks primarily want a place to hangout - that is being heard loud and clear.
Edit: Iâm sad no-one enjoyed my red dwarf reference.
This is how I see it, if information is big or interesting enough then by all means, create a new thread
Otherwise youâre either
-
Going to have a whole bunch of threads made for small stuff that most dont care about and get zero engagement that clog up the place
-
Going to have the information posted in the wrong thread because people canât be bothered making a new thread
-
or the info doesnât get posted at all because itâs in the wrong thread or they donât want to make a new topic
Same. I like having separate threads for big news so the conversation stays more focussed on the topic. For smaller news I like this thread, like the announcement of some niche indie game on Xbox. I canât imagine such news getting any traction in their own thread.
Yep the thread is very good for this. Nowhere else I could have posted this:
And it definitely wasnât something that deserved a thread either.
Whilst weâre talking about the forum I would like to share that this place has stopped loading on PC altogether for me. I can only access this place from mobile now. The loading times were getting worse, but when I try to open the forum on my laptop itâs stuck on a loading screen.
I cleared my cache, cookies and local storage and it seemed to fix it on my desktop.
Does a Forced Refresh (Control F5) work?
Also, This morning I had to re-authenticate entirely, so maybe theres a login or 2FA popup thats possibly blocked on PC for you?
Just throwing out ideas of what to try.
I donât agree⌠This thread catches a lot of the things that are too small for itâs own thread and is good for random discussions, news and is more of a chat. With no discord this is probably the closest thing.
Every little thing in its own threads would just lead to less engagement, not more. I canât speak for everyone but I think it would be a mistake to remove this thread.
Can you video/screengrab what youâre seeing? What browser are you using?
Clearing the cache seems to have worked!
And now people are running with the idea that Game Pass will increase soon
Community Hangout OT is good because I can come into this topic and see whatâs going on over the last several hours without having to go into several separate topics, some of which may not interest me to clicking into but scrolling through everything here, makes it more enticing to engage in conversation.
Of course, I am someone who would prefer the original setup where everything was just in the gaming section. In other words, I would love to see gaming and community merge into one actual long page and thatâs it. Just sticky/pin the important topics like Xbox Game Studios (which keeps getting unpinned for some odd reason), Game Pass, etc.
They should be fine if theyâre fine with $70 games.
They better top off at 3 years today!
So why would my internet connection on Xbox work fine for everything else except Xbox services? Browser and all the streaming apps work fine, but Xbox game downloads, game pass, store, etc. behave as if thereâs no internet connection whatsoever. This only happens when I connect through a wire from an access point, doesnât happen when I connect through wi-fi or a wire directly from the main router.
I know others have shared their thoughts and pretty much said what I wanted to, but Iâll throw in my perspective as well.
I like that this site has a âCatch allâ thread. While I do think big news items or topics should warrant their own threads (and often do), I think itâs important to keep a thread dedicated to smaller bits of news and âShooting the shitâ.
For example, if Staffy had shared his scary story of a gunman in his neighborhood in a separate thread, I probably wouldnât have seen it. I tend to check XboxEra a couple times a day, and itâs nice being able to just read through a single thread so see whatâs been going on not just in the industry, but in peopleâs daily lives. If I had to sift through dozens of threads, I donât think I would bother if Iâm being honest.
It just feels like it would clutter up the board with an endless stream of unengaging and frankly unimportant threads.
I donât think thereâs anything wrong with encouraging people to create more threads, and indeed I encourage people to do so if they feel like something warrants it, but please leave this thread as is. Selfishly, this thread is sort of like a small comfort for me. It would suck if it was gone and personally I think this place would lose a bit of itâs community feeling, as strange as that is to say.
Ultimately, it wouldnât be the end of the world and Iâll try to make due with whatever happens. Basically I just donât like change and Iâm just being an old man telling kids to get off his lawn.
