I’ve found most the “popular” alternatives to any social media platform are usually alt-right “free speech” cesspools. I did try CounterSocial when this whole saga started, but it honestly wasn’t a very good experience. Maybe it’s better now.
So hey…as the forum has matured a LOT over the last year, I don’t think there’s a need for a specific “Community Hangout” thread anymore - arguably, the whole forum is that. But I don’t want to make a decision like that without hearing from you lot - so what do you think? Why is this thread needed?

Did this guy bring a prop to a company acquisition so he could make a bad joke? A heavy prop he had to specifically buy?? I mean a sink is a weird amount of effort? Weird.
Yeah, it was previously reported he was planning on laying off 75% of staff at twitter. He’s claimed this isn’t true but, uh, I dunno he’s not exactly the most trustworthy on that front. I’m going to try and be optimistic and hope that no one would be so dense and cruel as to turn up with a dumb joke prop then fire most of the staff.

One of the main reasons it even exists is because the community that came from Reset were used to this one thread “safe haven”. That isn’t necessary here. But from your perspective, I should read that as you have no interest in participating in any other way across the entire forum? 
Without a public discord it feels kind of necessary. It’s the default place to discuss things until they necessitate their own topic.

I don’t mind multiple threads, i post and view a lot of them but here everything kind of gets talked about
I kinda don’t want a new thread for any little piece of news instead of a simple post that can be made here, like I dont need a new thread everytime Phil says something like on OtherEra, it will just clog the place up imo but it’s whatever

Everyone can create new threads. Why they don’t when new News happens is odd.
Not everything deserves it’s own thread and will just result in necroing a bunch of threads.

At one point when I was having connections issues, one of the tiles was fully transparent. With a little more info on it to show me what the achievements is for, fully transparent tiles that show off the background.
Edit: maybe with the added effect that if you select the tile it switches out to the normal one.
Honestly, switching between various threads is annoying and from my impression separate threads don’t gain much traction either.
I personally, for example. participate mainly in three threads
- Community thread that I use for all the news and all discussions
- Xbox Game Studios thread where it is like more about Xbox games related news
- acquisition thread with chaos energy
But discussions sometimes spill or start in other threads anyway.

I think it would be a mistake honestly. This thread can exist for any topic or subject and if it’s removed then I think we will see something like this
-Users post that have nothing to do with the subject
- @Knottian green text telling people to stay on topic
-Users get upset because community thread no longer exists
Or something along those lines

I personally quite like that discussions are condensed down to a few active threads, it keeps the feeling of an active and on-going discussion. I’m not a big fan of resetera by comparison where there’s so many active threads it can be hard to keep up with. If keeping the community hangout thread benefits this I’m all for it.

Isn’t this a shoot the shit thread? Is it your intention to either pollute other threads or have countless community threads with little reaction and discussion? Please leave this alone, destroying it seems needless to me at least.

I just started looking into it and it’s possible Mastodon has “fixed” some of it’s alt-right issues. It seems like for the most part those communities migrated to a fork of Mastodon. It’s decentralized so I’m not sure it can always be free of those types of issues, but depending on your instance it’s probably pretty safe. The largest (and original) instance https://mastodon.social/ seems ok.
Thats what it probably should be, but without all the posts that fit into the existing threads or should be new threads entirely. Like movies and tv posts should be in that thread just like Xbox Studios news should be in that OT and acquisition info should be there. Its this duplication of posts between where they really should be and being in here that can be an issue by fragmenting the discussion activity.
