If underperformance of Avengers led to the sale of Square West then I wonder what consequences Forspoken will have… It clearly will have some as they had big expectations.
This is not -Square will sell to Sony!- but again I am wondering what will happen. Avengers definitely had a bigger budget than Forspoken, but again, this one won’t just be “eh, write it off” like Babylon’s Fall.

I think you also have to remember the initial reveal of this game had people ranking this with the Playstation heavyweights. I remember many were saying this is what next gen would look like, but we’ve all seen the massive downgrade. I think both Square and Sony were banking on this game to be an early gen hit that people would use to benchmark the gen. I remember when it was called Project Athia every news outlet was calling it best looking game of the gen .

This is why I don’t jump on “Hype cycles”. I’ll gladly become interested in games that look interesting to me, but I’ll always wait for the finished product before I truly get excited. I’m too old and I’ve been down this road too many times.
