They did talk about how it received “harsh criticisms” here.
The more interesting part of the interview is this though
As this is pertaining to Creative Department 1st Production, the 3rd title is NOT Persona 6 or Re;Fantasy (which are P-Studio games).
It is likely that the third title is Etrian Odyssey Next and I think we will finally hear more about it this year.
I do have a feeling it may be Switch exclusive as it’s one of Atlus’s most niche franchises and the genre (DRPG) itself it also quite niche, they may play it safe as a Switch only title where there is an audience for it (especially if Nintendo offers a Direct marketing deal, game really needs it).
Yeah, I find it extremely sad too. I guess for some people whom are just utterly pathetic they just can’t be happy for someone else. It’s clearly too hard to either just not comment at all or just congratulate him.
And I am willing to bet that these people aren’t only kids either, I bet it’s “grown ups” too.
No, Tom Henderson took some creative liberties with the title of that article. What is true is that, if it ends up being true how PS CEO’s saying they are the lead in gaming subscriptions services and what appears to seem the slightest of worries, it could be used against their argumentes. This article does a better job explaining it:
If Mr. Ryan indeed made that statement, participants in the Q&A session will have to testify under oath–if not in the FTC’s peculiar adjudicative proceeding, then at least in district court (where a de facto class action is pending and where the FTC would have to seek a preliminary injunction). The truth will come out.
The FTC and other competition authorities should have known all along that Sony–the entrenched market leader in video game consoles–is a pretty bad complainant over this deal. With what Insider Gaming has reported now, regulators may find it even riskier to enter into any kind of public-private partnership with the PlayStation company.
So Jimbo does not seem to be worried about Gamepass according to a source.
“When we consider Game Pass, we’ve sold more [PlayStation 5]s in two years than they have gathered subscribers and they’ve been doing that for 6-7 years. We’re just shy of 50 million subscribers and they are in the low 20s, but there’s more work to do to grow that number.”
But this is what SONY (mind you the only company against the acquisition) said a couples of months ago to the CMA regarding gamepass and game susbcriptions:
"Game Pass leads PlayStation Plus significantly. Microsoft already has a substantial lead in multi-game subscription services. Game Pass has 29 million subscribers to Xbox Game Pass Console and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, and is expected to grow substantially in the future. The multi-game subscription tiers of PlayStation Plus considerably lag, with fewer than [redacted] the number of subscribers
Again, if ends up being true, regulators do their jobs (SONY misleading and lying to them) and MS somehow manage to verufy those claims it could be really damaging to SONY’s arguments (as the article states) and, if the CMA and EC approves; another nail in the coffin of the FTC’s case.
I literally went on a buying spree earlier this year with the 3DS Eshop shutting down. Would love to see more ATLUS titles get ported over (at the very least to Switch). I think its safe to say we’ll at least see some games get ported (again for some like Catherine FB, SMT3, and P4AU), but we shall see.
I know SEGA handled the Persona 5R ports (it actually was the lead dudes first multi-port project ever). I wouldn’t be surprised if 3P and 4G are treated the same way.
When it comes to the previous other ports I do believe ATLUS was the main team behind them, but not entirely sure if they received assistance elsewhere. We do know SEGA is really pushing remasters though, especially with how successful the P4G port on Steam was (this actually pushed them to do the P4AU ports).
ATLUS is one of those companies I usually just get news on through Megaten YouTubers, so I definitely don’t have the best knowledge when it comes to their developments.
With Catherine Full Body on Switch, it was outsourced to Technical Arts (also a late port).
With SMT3 PC, it wasn’t part of the initial announcement when the game was announced, I’m not too sure on this one, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the PC version was outsourced.
In the past, Atlus has used external help when it has come to ports of their titles. Catherine Classic was a PC port that Sega Europe mainly handled, Catherine: Full Body for Nintendo Switch was Technical Arts, , Soul Hackers 2 was Artdink Corporation. The exception to this was the Steam port of Persona 4 Golden which was lead internally, however there was still help from Preapp Partners.
Ah, thank you! Cant believe I totally forgot about Artdink.
I need to look around ATLUS’s catalog and see if they own most of the external stuff they published or not. Think there’d be some cool potential stuff to bring back if so (obviously would be a lower priorty than Megaten or Etrian Odyssey).
If this is referring to Atlus USA published titles back when they were like NISA, bringing other companies games to the West, then Atlus/Sega owns none of it.
For example Atlus USA brought the Utawarerumono games to the West, but are no longer the publisher. The PC versions are now published by Shiravune (but use Atlus USA’s translations). The PS versions that Atlus USA published are now long delisted.
For external stuff Atlus JP published, I can only think of Vanillaware titles. Unfortunately Vanillaware is quite protective of their source code and assets (allegedly a reason why their titles don’t come to PC), might not allow for outsourcing. Even with NISA who brings everything to PC, their upcoming Vanillaware title Grimgrimoire OnceMore is not coming to PC.
Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas! I hope everyone is having a great day relaxing with Family and friends while ignoring the urge to strangle those relatives you don’t like.
I would hope that now we have the Persona games that any future games land on Xbox too. Hope Phil made sure of that. Not just Persona games, any new big Atlus games.
Wonder if it would be worth it for Xbox for them to have a dedicated porting studio for some Japanese games that might not have the resources to bring their games to everything at launch
Some of these teams are pretty small so getting them to be able to put their games on all 3 consoles and steam probably isn’t an easy task for a lot of them
If it doesn’t come to Xbox then I can’t help but wonder why not. Clearly Phil has been doing a great job at getting stuff we missed out on from Japan. So I guess we gotta hope that the devs don’t mind making a Xbox version too. If not day one Game Pass, that’s fine too. If it’s good I’ll get it.
