XboxEra Community Hangout |OT9| Waiting for Developer_E3

High on Life would’ve found a very small audience on Stadia. Similar to when Cobra Kai debuted on YouTube Red. Fantastic show and I was happy to subscribe to an obscure streaming service for Cobra Kai but I think we all know Cobra Kai’s true success came when it became a Netflix show.

This looks like a ton of fun

Thoughts on this?

I can see Microsoft signing a deal to keep it as an Xbox full exclusive and a deal for a fully exclusive sequel. I do not see Microsoft even remotely going after Squanch Games in regards to an acquisition for obvious reasons. Better off just paying for sequel full exclusivity.

While I would like to have it exclusive, I am not sure if Microsoft will do that. They should though.

I doubt it

Aggressive and smart plays like this should be done but im not sure they will

Has Xbox had any history of making timed exclusives fully exclusive? Even if they don’t want to do that they should be locking down future games asap

This absolutely. I mean I guess I’m OK with PS players getting their games too, but this is not a studio I want to see Sony get cozy with (like Bloober, not that I care in that case) and have them lock it up for who knows how long.

Good to see a nice tweet by him, isn’t always the case.

What a shocker.

I have conflicting thoughts regarding some of the egregiously negative reviews. Clearly people just absolutely hated the style of humor and it trumped everything else about the game. Okay, fair enough, that’s their reaction and it’s not wrong.

But in a review, is that the right angle to take? In another context, if someone reviewed The Witcher III and was like, “Well it’s an all right RPG, but personally I just absolutely hate magic and fantasy, so, 3/10. If the theme was sci-fi instead I would have given it an 8.” Is that a worthwhile review?

I think at the end of the day my answer is yes, it’s okay for a reviewer to score a game based on their own reaction, not how they think other people with different preferences might like something. Still, this is a really stark example of the limitations of reviews, and why metascore shouldn’t be taken at face value as an indicator of a game’s worthiness. As if we didn’t all know that already. :upside_down_face:

Woah. I was thinking that must be an older title to be no longer supported, but it released March 10 2022!

I’m really enjoying the game, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the mediocre reviews. For me, High on Life is a pretty mediocre video game with nice graphics and a style of humor that is pretty divisive. A lot of the encounters and things to do are all based around that style of humor, so if the humor isn’t resonating with you, you’re left with a game that feels (to me anyway) kind of bland and boring.

I don’t really care about reviews anyway, but I also don’t think it’s right for me to tell others how they review their games. If you don’t like how someone reviews a game, don’t look at their reviews in the future. If you’re worried about how said reviews will impact Metacritic scores, then simply ignore Metacritic. If you’re worried how others will use Metacritic to make their game purchases, that’s literally not your problem and I don’t understand why people care.

Just ignore the bullshit and have fun.

He is absolutely right… If Xbox doesn’t shove out money for this… They lose a good exclusive… and a creative team

Missed out on Titanfall & Respawn hope they learned from that situation. It would be silly to let Tencent or another publisher come get them.

You are telling me that Xbox did not force the developer to release their game on Game Pass .

Pretty much done all I’ve can do on Cyberpunk 2077.

I think my next game will be the Mass Effect Legendary edition. Never played those games before, do the games still hold up ?
