… It always boggles my mind when otherwise (supposedly) intelligent people cannot apply an ounce of analytical effort to topics like the sustainability of Game Pass. Here is a little spreadsheet I just put together in about 90 seconds.

So, right now (assuming the avg price of $10 is close to correct) Game Pass revenue is equivalent to selling about 50 million first party games at full price. When is the last time Sony had a year like that? (I honestly don’t know, but I assume it isn’t common.) As the subscriber count grows, which it almost inevitably will, the revenue picture looks even brighter. Of course, this completely ignores the expense side of the equation - but it is still compelling evidence how Game Pass could be sustainable.

Assuming a modest profit margin of 20%, that would equate to currently producing 720,000,000. Seems like thats quite a lot to fund projects with only gamepass subscription. That ignores all the other revenue associated with it such as getting more people into games and buying MTX and DLC (even the game itself lol).

It is also an investment into the future as the more content they produce the more content they permanently have in gamepass. It also fuels growth of the subscription service which will provide more profit.

Considering that the game’s metascore is 61 and its reception among the gaming, I think eventually the reviewer traffic will decline as it just does not align with the people’s reception and Game Pass makes reviews irrelevant.

Or don’t want to see it as a succesfull endeavor for Xbox and MS. It can’t be ! There must be a trick !

GP is the equivalent of the door salesman knocking on your door and tell you about all these awesome games you can play for a small monthly fee and about all the others coming in the service soon. And it’s actually a good deal !

GP uses the foot in the door technique and it works. It has always worked. Nothing new, just that you do it from your couch now.

Was there some unofficial agreement between Sony and their fans regarding the video game industry? I feel like Sony promised their fans on the down low that, in exchange for their undying obedience and loyalty, PS will try their best to rid the gaming industry from the ‘Big Bad Microsoft.’ But that didn’t (and increasingly looking like it won’t) happen and now the zealots are lashing out.

Microsoft is entrenched now; they’re not leaving. so this is basically a perpetual nightmare for the haters.

I don’t know if buying them makes a lot of sense. Without Justin Roiland it isn’t worth much and I got a feeling he wouldn’t stick around if he decided to sell.

Publishing their next game on the other hand I think would be a great idea.
