Crystal Dynamics and Tomb Raider would have been a very nice fit for Xbox.
But nooooooooo, let’s go to court over Candy Crush instead.

That! Thank you.
This is new for them isn’t it?
Also seems like Amazon won’t be one we have to be “scared” of, in the sense of them buying a studio or pub maybe, there’s too much benefit for them not to drop it for the consoles too.
Can we let this go?
Eh , tomb raider franchise in its entirety wont match revenue generated from candy crush . Profit margin must be insane for candy crush
Seems like they are going the cross platform publisher route, which is probably smart nowadays. You see how much money Tencent makes off gaming. It’s much less risk than cloud streaming and creating your own platforms.
I know… Not sure what that has to do with anything though.
This feels like Phil demand to spread the word.
Oh I meant they’ll chose candy crush 10/10 times over most games due to the insane profit margin. I enjoyed the trilogy but to Microsoft they weren’t a huge miss and they probably felt they can always come back for them
Desire to get games that some fans want or desire to get games with money to pay back the most expensive purchase ever in no time.
Blacktail is only 23.99 now instead of 29.99.
Tomorrow or Saturday I will have a gift card of ten euros ready thanks to Rewards. Tempting!!!
High on life had big twitter promotion and partially viral on tiktok
But Xbox more or less did that. Hell, even that one video on Series S more or less made fun of on the idea that internet ads is just good enough these days. When people say ads, they think only in physical presence.
Depending on the results of Perfect Dark I wouldn’t lose hope on the idea of Microsoft strengthening their relationship with Crystal Dynamics.
Seems as though Embracer Group is going to be hands off with the company, as they are letting Amazon work with Crystal Dynamics on a publishing deal for Tomb Raider.
The funniest part of this story is that there is no hint that Microsoft was interested in Square’s western studios. Just trivial deductions.
I can already tell you that hardly anyone was interested in the studios. If you look at the deal, SE basically gave them away for free.
Embracer bought CD and TR just to let somebody else fund them?
It’s an asset that they hold, a talented AAA studios with a big IP. Direct operation costs in the traditional developer publisher combo have been proven too costly, so sharing the burden of operating the studio through co-development (with Xbox) and publishing (with Amazon) makes owning such studios actually, likely, profitable in the long run.
Eventually I think Embracer’s plan is to own as much capabilities and IP that they would leverage partnering with or selling to platform holders and publishers in need of content.
I’ve always gotten the impression they were much more an investment firm than a traditional publisher - I think they’ll follow the money in ways we wouldn’t necessarily expect. Like this - Crystal Dynamics has struggled to be profitable for the last while, maybe it just makes sense for them to offload that financial risk to someone else especially while the studio continues to profit off of their Perfect Dark work.
Equally, I wouldn’t be surprised if Embracer wanted to keep letting them work on future games with Microsoft or if they sold the studios later for a comfortable profit.
