“A year ago, we all wondered why Forza Horizon 5 wasn’t considered for #GOTY at The Game Awards and the argument was its release date. But this year… 👀

I’d like to see Ninja Theory have another crack at a straight up action game after Hellblade 2

No way Geoff skips big Sony release from the nominations

Yup, that’s the point of the tweet.

As much as people like to poop on Geoff

The sad truth is the gaming community/journalists are to blame, if it’s not some super epic AAA cinematic game, especially third person, you’re much less likely to be a contender, just like with the Oscars, there’s movies that won’t get a chance no matter how good they are

Not to mention if it’s anything like the Oscars, there’s even people voting for these games that haven’t even played or finished them

I don’t take these awards seriously at all, the only thing the show is good for is the trailers

Might be toxic but we should know which journalist are selecting which games . I feel if he’s going to position the show as the premier awards then they need to fix their process. I feel there’s usually 2 games that don’t belong and other snubbed due to genre

Just seen someone has made a transparent case for their Series X… looks interesting…

Geoff’s got nothing to do with it.

Nominees for most categories of The Game Awards are chosen by an international jury of over 100 global media and influencer outlets, selected for their history of critical video game evaluation.

Specialized juries also convene for other categories including esports, accessibility and best adaptation.

Each voting outlet completes a confidential, unranked ballot based on the collective and diverse opinion of its entire editorial staff, listing out its top five choices in each category.

Ballots are tabulated, and the five games that appear on the most ballots are put forth as nominees. In the event of a tie, six (or more) nominees will be announced in a category.

Game Awards producer Geoff Keighley is not a member of the jury and does not vote on the nominees or winners. The Advisory Board has no involvement in the awards process and learns of the results at the same time as the general public.

one guy with a full legit list of proofs vs a whole lot of nothing statement from a publisher. what an L for Bethesda. Mick Gordon was and is one of the respected artists in gaming industry. you kick him, then what’s the point of developing the next Doom game.

i wouldn’t be surprised if Actibliz staying same after the MS buyout.

Who picks the arbitrary cutoff date?

Sony.

Don’t know.

But that is one area that has room for improvement. Personally I think the release cut off date should be further away from the nomination deadline, in order to give jury members a fighting chance at experiencing the game before their nominations are due.

This is especially important for sleeper hits, or games in genres that jury members may not jump on on day of release.

But all these goings on, wasn’t that pre acquisition?

I would not be surprised that eventually we will find out that Geoff is not involved with TGA and just a face there /s

like what Bethesda been doing 2 years with that reddit post from the ID director guy?. yeah no.

not to mention that Mick specifically called out Marty on the document but Bethesda acted that he attacked the whole team.

Its simple. Make the cutoff date be release by December 31st and move the award show into Early March. Problem solved in a way that makes sense to everyone.

Yes. Acquisition completed in 2021, this tomfoolery was in 2019.

I’m a bit more cautious after the whole Platinum affair, I’m not saying Mick doesn’t have any proof, but to hear from everyone, the truth is maybe in the middle, or a misunderstanding, or Mick is right. I don’t know well this kind of stuff, so I will be waiting for more. Also, it is unforntunate that devs always get harrassed by gamers with every dramas.

Edit : I think I also read that Marty was difficult to work with, and the problem seems to be with contracts and stuff. Also, after seeing Hoeg’s video on that, Bethesda declaration feels a bit hollow, except for the people getting harrassed, which is unacceptable. Hoping the situation finds a good answer.

That’ll never happen. Advertisers would be much less interested in a show taking place after Christmas. As long as the games cover a 12-month period I don’t have a problem with it not strictly following the calendar year.

If we accept that she show has to be in early December, and nominations due in early November, then I think a better solution would be for the eligibility window to be October 1st through September 30th. Or put differently, the last quarter of the previous year and the first three quarters of the current year. I like the symmetry of this, and it would give jurors a solid month and a bit since the last eligible game was released.
