In September Kena release is one year ago. Hopefully it comes to xbox^^

If it does, I highly recommend it. It’s a lite souls type game in regards to the combat but no penalty when dying. Had a few minor negatives for the game but overall, a great 8.5/10 and my 4th best game of 2021. Hoping for a sequel!!

Requiem and Callisto for me, I’ll play Requiem via Game Pass and I’ll buy Callisto at day one. Evil West and Steel Rising look decent too but I’ll wait for a sale or Game Pass.

I will be playing Requiem on Game Pass as well. Will be buying Steel Rising which is only available digitally in NA but for $60, includes their post launch expansion. Evil West will be bought on disc and looking forward to it. The Callisto Protocol will be day one but I haven’t decided if im buying it on disc or digital. Depends on what the post launch content will be.

Kena was a really enjoyable game that clearly had a bunch of talented people working on it that could easily scale up and create AAA experiences.

It wouldn’t surprise me if Sony is currently trying their best to lock them down on their platform.

I think Ember Labs will be one of those studios that goes on to do great things.

Really hoping Sony acquires Ember Lab as I would love to see what they can do with a $100m+ AAA budget.

That sucks.

Sony really managed to get several indie exclusives with very impressive visuals and gameplay that is right up my alley. While Xbox went for stuff like The Gunk. I’m not blaming Xbox, they saw the studio that made the Steamworld Dig games, which are very good games, The Gunk just isn’t, not in my book,definitely not up to their standards.

Kena visually and gameplay wise is really the kind of thing I wanted to see on Xbox. Guess we shouldn’t give up just yet.

Agreed. If Kena ever releases on Xbox or if you ever get a PS5/PS4, I recommend playing it. Such a great game.

Skull & Bones Appears to Be Arriving in November

Mario & Rabbids in October, Skull & Bones possibly in November so does that mean Avatar will be in December??? Surprised that Ubisoft hasn’t shown Avatar gameplay yet when it’s supposed to be this winter. Damn Ubi!!!

As an older gamer I hate this prolonged generation talk. It’s a way of moving the goal posts that worked for a couple years but I’m about at my limit of tolerance for it. How many more years are we going to have to hear about PS4 sales numbers of 100 million PlayStations? I’m actually ready for a console refresh soon so I can replace my bedroom Series S with an Xbox with more power and a bigger hard drive or my ugly PS5 with a better looking version. I guess I’m just a relic from a by gone technology era where things moved faster and the status quo was constantly being disrupted.

I would prefer this generation to end in November 2026 and for there to be no mid-gen refreshes but I believe that there will be mid-gen consoles and the generation lasts to November 2028.

Yeah the GP thing is indeed restricting themselves and it showed during their stream too.

It seems that if Microsoft can’t get the game on Game Pass day one, they pass on it. I wouldn’t have any issues with Microsoft getting a few timed/full exclusives that aren’t on Game Pass day one but look like Kena, The Ascent, etc. and are my type of game because they would be a day one purchase for me.

Fable will probably be something like that. I’d like at least one more, personally something like Far Cry or Dying Light, it can be 1st or 3rd person I don’t care. I know many people keep hating on Ubisoft and similar games but formulaic action open-world games serve a purpose. Halo Infinite was kind of something like that bit lite.

Agreed. The open world in Halo Infinite wasn’t really needed in my opinion. All the collectibles were meh but I did like the FOB’s and the targets that you have to go after and kill. Story/characters and story missions easily made up for it though.

But I’m referring to first party content whereas your referring to third party, if first party games didn’t matter then there wouldn’t be a need for different consoles in the first place.

If your someone who mainly enjoys playing single player action adventure games (cough Ubisoft games) your more likely to buy a PS5 over an Xbox because in addition to all the third party content you have Horizon, GoW, Ghost of Tsushima and Spider-Man etc.

The same argument now applies to FPS and RPG games, if that’s your favourite genre your are more likely to buy a Xbox over a PS5 (obviously both these arguments only apply if you want a console not a PC).

If Xbox could make some Ubisoft titles exclusive they may make the Xbox more appealing to the former audience too. Xbox obviously have some titles in production like Hellblade and Compulsions game but it’s so far few and in-between if they are your favourite genre.

First party exclusives are huge at least for me. They are the number one reason why I buy a console. If the console/platform doesn’t have any exclusives that im interested in playing, I don’t buy it.

I’m a single player gamer that loves the action adventure games but thankfully, I own both a Series X and a PS5 but if I was somehow to only be able to buy one, it would have been a PS5 simply because there’s a far greater chance of me getting games that I prefer from Sony than I would from Microsoft.

I like FPS and RPG’s but they’re secondary genres for me. They tend to have more negatives for me than the third person action adventure games that I prefer. I still play a decent amount of them though.

I have a lot of games on my list from Microsoft that I want to play but I do wish they could give me at least one third person action adventure game a year. That would be awesome. Thus far, I have Hellblade 2, Indiana Jones (im fully expecting 3rd person), Gears 6 (even though it’s more of a shooter than action adventure but still, im throwing it in there) and possibly Compulsion’s game. Third person single player action adventure from them sounds great but I have to see exactly what it is first.

As a consumer you don’t want to feel you are missing out because you have to choose A or B.

This is why I will always own both Xbox and PlayStation because in all honesty, im not expecting either to give me everything that I want and prefer. That’s just not going to happen.

Yeah, they’re supposedly working on a Star Wars FPS game. I’m still hoping for Titanfall 3 at some point before this generation ends.

It’s really interesting to look back in time, last gen people were saying Xbox needs to have more studios and make big single player story driven linear and/or open world games. They started addressing exactly that with the acquisitions in 2018:

• Ninja Theory: 3rd person, cinematic, story-driven game
• Playground: on top of FH, they’re making a 3rd person, open-world action RPG
• Compulsion: Leaked info making a 3rd person, story-driven action adventure game
• Initiative: First person, cinematic, story-driven action/shooter
• Undead Labs: now this is a tricky one, they don’t fit exactly that but there’s potential there and specualtion that they’re gonna make a focused story single-player experience with SOD3, it’s arguable that SOD was a SP experience in essence but the problem was just the quality. Remains to be seen.

2019 acquisitions, this is where MS started targeting RPGs:

• Obsidian: single player, first person, story driven RPGs
• InXile: almsot exactly like Obsidian
• DoubleFine: a studio that makes very different story single player games, bit it’s almost hard to categorize

2020:

• Bethesda: Mostly single player, predominantly first person, action/shooters and RPGs.

2021:

• Activision Blizzard: no significant single player story-driven presence really

It’s interesting. It seems there was a pahse 1 where MS focaued on getting studios/games to compete exactly with Playstation’s 1st party approach, but with phases 2&3 they went to a differentiation strategy with RPGs and FPS, which historically, those games were always associated with Xbox. That might be intentional, or might just be what’s available for the IP value and, the right price, and team/leadership.

Just so you know, Microsoft acquired Obsidian and InXile in November 2018. It was announced at their XO event by Matt Booty if I remember correctly. Great info and list by the way!!! I’m looking forward to games from almost every studio you listed.

So everyone thought this game was getting a trailer tomorrow with a release date. Maybe not?

I was expecting an announcement for a State of Play featuring only God of War Ragnarok. Similar to what Sony has done with Horizon Forbidden West and others. I still believe it’s November but im hoping for March 2023.
