Based on what? Forced 4k with ray tracing?

Nah. I think 30fps only for ps5 and series x will be the exception. Not the rule.

Much better competent devs out there than WB.

I don’t know how well optimized it was, but the Matrix demo was like 1440p at best and still struggled to maintain 30fps. I am expecting more “next gen” lighting, destruction/physics that push the less scalable parts of the hardware.

You could be right about that. I guess a mid gen refresh could help with that, but if not, it’s not the end of the world for me. Several genres CAN be enjoyed in 30fps. RDR2 for example, but also something like A Plague Tale and so on.

For me personally it isn’t super bad in a third person game, however once it’s a first person game it’s different. Today I tried playing Subnautica in the visuals mode which is 30fps and that was not really great.

All I want is a good game. Is that acceptable?

Agreed. It’s amazing how they couldn’t have a 60fps mode by just removing the Ray Tracing. I don’t understand how they built their game without this in mind and I can only imagine what the 2013 base PS4 and XBO consoles would have been running the game at even though they wouldn’t have had Ray Tracing at all so maybe they were 60fps and that’s why they cancelled those versions. lol

Agree completely. Gotham Knights at least from the videos I have seen doesn’t look better than Arkham Knight in my opinion. Whatever decisions they made during development, they were the wrong ones.

A supposed “dev”

It’s surely development technical shortcomings, I’m not gonna make stupid accusations like lazy development or anything like that, but as others have pointed they don’t have the best track record for optimization, and the team could just be handling more than they are capable of managing open-world and co-op on UE4 to run at 60fps. Just don’t come up with a stupid excuse like it’s because of the Series S, because logically the Series S, if anything, would make PS5/XSX versions more optimized.

gonna be funny next gen when sony has something similar to the series s and a regular ps6. all these people are gonna say sony is thinking of consumers and developers. the goal post will shift a lot

I don’t believe that there’s any developer that’s actually lazy. i simply believe that when a development studio builds a game, they make decisions early on and if they don’t fully test them out or can change/adapt on the fly, you get situations like Gotham Knights.

Focusing on Ray Tracing even though they haven’t confirmed what forms of Ray Tracing are in the PS5/XSX versions of the game so early on without allowing themselves the ability to adapt and shift if needed looks to have shot themselves in the foot. Of course, this is just my own personal opinion and theory.

As for Series S, im not a fan of the console and would have preferred Series X only but I understand why it exists and I do believe that it’s easily superior to last generation Pro/X consoles but with the limitations of the console especially RAM, I can understand why developers probably aren’t the biggest fans of it but then again, you look at Gotham Knights where to run at 1080P/60FPS on PC requires some pretty beefy specifications which is just fucking weird.

I don’t believe that they should blame Series S for any issues because if the game was originally going to be on PS4/XBO base consoles from 2013, I don’t see how the Series S could be a problem. It’s almost like they’re scaling up when they’re supposed to be scaling down from the highest tech to the lowest tech.

But whatever. I know the combat is solid and the story is said to be good from those who are already playing the game due to getting it early from stores.

I’ll post my impressions next weekend once I play it and put some hours into the game.

Maybe this is the generation where people finally get through their skulls that, 60 fps is ultimately a design goal, and that the only reason we are currently enjoying 60 fps (and even 120 fps) is because of the prolonged cross-gen phase. Christ, there’s something to be said for the fact that around this time during the PS4/XB1 era Treyarch basically gave the 360/PS3 gen a major fuck you with an insanely gimped version of black ops 3, meanwhile this year with MW2.

Once we get out of the next gen phase, devs are going to have to decide how they want to use the limited resources of these consoles. especially as graphical techniques advance, and GPU/CPU resources stay the same.

Personally, I still very much view the need for 60 fps as a case by case basis. first person shooters, fast paced action games, rogue likes, racing games, and fighters? I borderline think 60 fps is a must.

narrative adventure games, open world games, horror games etc? it’s nice but not a make or break. I’m just glad we got to a point last gen where 60 fps was more or less becoming a standard for first person shooters.

This is an action game. Its not Read Dead 2 levels of moving like a Tractor. Characters move fast act fast and there’s plenty of fast paced combat. 60FPS would have been beneficial

And honestly…they’ll patch it in. WB will tell them to get of their ass and do it when they see the sales numbers.

Devs are humans too, which means sometimes they’ll have crap takes, even on the things that are in their field.

This got me thinking

You think WB games will force reviewers to review PC version only like cyberpunk?

Knowing the shithousery of them trying to hide these details. Wouldnt be surprised if they send out very little console codes and only pc ones to inflate review scores like with Cyberpunk.

I’ve been playing Inscryption on PC via Steam Deck and it’s fantastic. I don’t like card games very much, but this game does things both in and outside that core conceit that are very interesting and very much in line with the developer’s prior work. I hope it hits Xbox/Switch for you who don’t have access to it on PC/PlayStation because it’s so unique and interesting.

nah they almost never do that, you normally get the platform you ask for. I potentially have an Xbox code incoming

I wonder if WB sent out review codes which you would think that they would have since the game is a pretty decent sized open world and game releases in 5 days from now.

Can confirm that Xbox does indeed update in energy saver mode.

What arkam knights doing wrong here is trying to blame the hardware and making excuse on something like co-op

They can simply shut there mouth and do what watch dogs legion did

They have made it worse for themselves

I’m sure plenty have had codes for a while, as a small site we’re rarely at the top of any list so I really have to chase.
