XboxEra Community Hangout |OT8| Waiting for E3 2023

Disappointing to hear about Mega Man Battle Network, but I guess RetroArch is a thing at least…

I think what’s most likely is MS reached out to them a long while ago about funding some ports, and they agreed on a few conditions:

  1. MS must also fund extra languages and platforms so it’s really worth their while.
  2. The games would launch simultaneously across platforms. This is why the 3 games aren’t releasing sooner/at the same time, since they have to finish the porting work.
  3. They’ll do the porting work when their developers aren’t busy with other major (new) projects. This explains the staggered releases.

If this is what happened, then Atlus made out like bandits, but Xbox leadership knew how important it was to secure these games and were willing to play ball.

Edit: Wanna make it clear I have absolutely no business background. Pure conjecture here, it could be wildly backwards for all I know.

It’s still Capcom. We only miss Great Ace Attorney, MegaMan Network and MH Stories/Rise (Nintendo exclusive).

Since 2019 Namco starts to release more frequently on Xbox. Before that ? Just look how many Tales of are missing since Vesperia.

Edit: You chance your sentence so nvm. :see_no_evil:

I’m not saying you are acting like that per se, but there are plenty of people that are, including one in particular that seems to be doing purely to stir the pot.

The point that you and @Mort are missing here when it comes to me bringing out BGS’ history is that they know their rate of development and workflow better than anyone else, and to assume that they’re not going to hit their delay target because you have feelings that run contradictory to their history and ability to deliver after an initial delay, feels a bit unwarranted.

I don’t believe for a second Microsoft paid for other platforms.

Tech is advancing faster and faster

For what it’s worth I do believe it will release in the first half of next year, but I’m not going to pretend that the dates or windows we are given is written on stone tablets and delivered on a mountain… As we have seen plenty of delays the past few years, for obvious reasons. I think it’s a bit aggressive to pounce on everyone who doubts these dates, like why?

I agree, and have long said that release dates during this era are going to be very malleable, but I think a team’s ability to consistently perform and never delay a title twice should hold some value in this conversation, no?

I also haven’t “pounced on everyone who doubts these dates” as you said, I commented once to provide some context to earlier points I’ve made of BGS’ history with delays and their ability to follow through on their second dates. If that constitutes as “pouncing”, it’s no wonder why we have some of the narratives from certain individuals.

Harvestella looked interesting during Nintendo Direct. Seems like it’s a (timed?) exclusive and also for Steam.

I think where it gets a little “eye rolly” is when MS gives a time frame, and immediately you have some people going “so they said this, but what they actually meant was this!”

If these things were based off of more than just “every game is delayed” or personal feelings, then yeah I could get it more, but too many times it’s just “I just think it’s going to get delayed again.”

One thing I’ve noticed with Xbox these days is that they’ve started to avoid giving exact dates. Even when the game is only a few months away, like grounded.

That’s a good thing imo. Give a general time, like 1H2021, that gives you room to both go up and back as needed.

Ori 2 could have benefited from this, as an example.

Indeed, and that’s why I still believe it will release somewhere in H1 next year but I won’t consider it a given.

I didn’t mean it as broad as it sounded, it was limited to this very discussion and instance. It felt a bit aggressive and unnecessary, perhaps a bit pre-emptive, that’s how I experienced it anyways in the context of me thinking it was a perfectly normal opinion to hold.

I think it’s fine to doubt or not assume things are set it stone

But saying things like “well there’s no evidence its gonna release the first 6 months so it’s probably releasing second half or even 2024” is

  1. Going against the only evidence we do have i.e. them saying first half of 2023

  2. Feel like someone stirring up shit

Not to mention Bethesda don’t have a history of delays taking a long time

I don’t understand why missing some small game is a big deal to start trending.

Mega Man while not something id consider that big is still big enough to get people taking about it and when the only platform its not coming to is xbox when xbox is doing better than ever and has more fans, its gonna have people talking

Plus you’re gonna have cultist type people talk about it too

I feel like these are the sort of games MS should be going to Capcom and saying here’s GP cheque that covers the cost of porting

Xbox gets another “new” thing on GP and Capcom doesn’t have to worry about the game not selling much

Toxicity generates engagement and clicks on social media.

Good thing I beliveve it will release in H1 next year then. But I’m not taking it for granted just because they say it will, and act like that is an unbreakable promise.

I do think that the trending has more to do with people asking Capcom, rather than questioning Xbox. With Xbox growing we will have more vocal people supporting the platform.

Watch it end up as a GamePass DayOne collection…

Sure, I don’t count myself in that category though. I think they very much believe and intend to hit the dates they set, I just don’t think they always will, as we have allready seen numerous times at Xbox and outside. I don’t understand where the controversy in not assuming release dates are written into the constitution lies?

Agreed, that is much better if you have to give a date or window at all.

How many times was that game delayed hehe, and it still could have used more time as far as I recall. Perhaps just don’t give dates too far in advance but rather release when it’s done. Weird concept I guess.

I think they should start shelving the games sooner or later and release them when the season is dry. Do like Nintendo when they announce the games unexpectedly.

Biggest slap in the face about that announcement is the “modern console” bit. So, are them and other Japanese devs not considering xbox a modern console? This is not the first time that has been used when skipping xbox
