XboxEra Community Hangout |OT8| Waiting for E3 2023

Were we ever expecting it to? Nioh was published by Sony wasn’t it? So it was never coming to Xbox.

I don’t see why doing this could be questionable

If it is just about playing the game and DLC for one and done, then they are practically saving money

For many owning the game which you might not visit again could be useless

Offcourse, its everyone personal choice

To each their own!

To me that feels like buying upgrades for a rented car lol.

Sure, if I hated money that is an option.

Yeah that is different, I do that too but people seems to have missed the part about games I don’t even know how long I have access to in my post.

Examples:

  • I bought the FH5 Premium Upgrade since it’s first party and will stay in GP.

  • I did not buy the DLC for The Ascent, a game I planned on playing but it can leave anytime and instead put the complete edition in my watch-for-sales list for a later date.

Do you upgrade the tires on a rental car too? To me, that’s a bit weird but like you say it’s everyones personal choice lol.

I think the fact that Xbox tells you when the game is going to leave and gives you discount helps. Since people know they won’t have to pay full price for the game, also if the game is on the ultimate sale while still on game pass people may actually buy it because it would save them more money than waiting for when it leaves(same with dlc).

Upgrading tiers analogue does not work here

A tier won’t provide you a different experience

adding a stereo player or LCD is more better analogue

There’s nothing stopping them from purchasing the game after it leaves GP, if they were buying DLC for a game that was disappearing off the store and couldn’t access again now that would be questionable

Not to mention many people don’t replay games

They’ll play the story once, buy the dlc if they like it, play it and then never touch he game or it’s dlc again, GP or not

I used to replay games constantly when I was younger, I cant tell you how many times I replayed MGS1/2/3 back in the day or would get to neear max stats in FFX only to stop and do the exact same thing a month or 2 later lol now I barely ever replay games

Ok… well do you think that would be a normal thing to do then?

I don’t consider it a big deal. It is just like saying that leasing is worth the buying or loaning a car, because person decided not to do that.

I am sure games are not necessities in the life so talking about hating money in gaming is kinda rich.

Yes? I mean it is like buying the ticket to the first or second class. In both cases you will reach your destination so why would you spend more? People for example buy additional services in the hotels and so on.

I don’t understand this sentence.

Why? What does that have to do with anything?

You make no sense.

The point that I am trying to explain is that buying DLC even if you don’t own the game is not hating money, rather the sign of the enjoyment of the game.

I see what you mean, this is foreign to me and is why I asked if people do this. I do like the option to replay games, not that I do very often and I do enjoy Game Pass for a lot of one and dones so I’m not against the idea of renting games.

I guess I don’t want to buy DLC for a game I do not own in that context.

Why not… You rent a cheap car and add a stereo

When it’s time to return the car, you take out that stereo

Also, comparing rent ownership of a tangible entity vs a non-tangible entity doesn’t make sense all together

But you cannot use the DLC without the game? So you would have a stereo that doesn’t work unless you buy that car.

Yeah that’s fair

For a lot of people though games/movies or any entertainment is there to be enjoyed and then move onto the next thing, completely disposable, they don’t care at all about ownership

This is already the way with music and streaming like Netflix, as soon as subscriptions became common, people didn’t seem to care about ownership anymore, the same will and already is happening with gaming

I would argue that people did not care about the ownership from the very beginning - it is just ownership was the only reliable way to replay something over and over again. Especially when people are young and cannot afford buying games thus have to play with what they have.

Good points. I guess I don’t look at it that way. I would for example pay for a Game Pass Ultra Premium sub with all DLC included. That would be different.

Yea you might be right there

That is what I am saying… This analogue doesn’t work

Owning a piece of software is much much different different then owning a piece of hardware

When I know I won’t visit the game again so what is the point of owning the game at all

I think that is also not universal. I love owning my entertainment so that I can return to it whenever I want, always have. I have a library for my books… I could go to a public library and borrow some of my favourites, but I prefer my own copies.

Same with games. This is of course only applicable to the top tier of games, or books or movies or whatever. I consume a lot of it that I don’t need to own to enjoy. But I would never buy things I cant access whenever I want.
