The following I’m not absolutely sure of, but it worked this way the last time I read about their process.
If you’re not in any insider ring, when you first join I think you may be able to select the omega ring. I think after a brief time you can opt for Delta. You need to wait a few months to get into Beta ring. You wouldn’t be able to opt straight into Alpha Skip Ahead or Alpha rings. You’d need to participate and do tasks and file bug reports and then wait tobe invited to those.
Here’s how I’d describe the rings:
Omega is a control group that gets releases just before they hit the public.
Delta ring gets the updates when they’re near finalising the testing of the feature. They are mostly Rel3ase Candidates builds.
Beta is maybe a week behind the Alpha ring if the builds seem stable without issues.
Alpha is maybe updates a couple times a week and sometimes it causes issues, but they try to have it stable.
Alpha SkipAhead is for longer term feature updates meaning you’re bleading edge updates. Sometimes they’re six months out, possibly more. You should be ready to accept updates which causes issues.
I’ve been in this for a long time now. I sit in the Alpha ring but have ability to opt into Alpha SkipAhead.
Because officially not a damn thing has been said about it. Only insiders saying Sony wants to associate FF with PS again. I’d like something official, because we sure won’t hear it from Sony.
We should not expect any official announcement. Like nobody expects Square Enix to come out and say that “we are not releasing Octopath 2 on Xbox because…”. We know that Sony is involved so we can just write off the game and forget. Especially after FF7R P2 only PS5 and FF16 PS5 only announcements.
No reason to cling to the game after almost 2 years (if not more).
It helps that CP2077 is now playable. Also points on importance of crossmedia IPs for the games.
I bought the game the other day due to the anime. I think more games should go this route when trying to tackle gaming on a tv/movie front. Same thing happened with me with League of Legends Arcane and I decided to give LoL and Runtera card game a spin. If I am Microsoft I would tap into this for franchises such as Halo, Gears, Fable, Starfield, and other games. I think you can just tell a story better in an animated style compared to live action
