Would it be the same in 16th century german? I know old Swedish is weird af at least. Point is, modern German would most likely be wrong anyway.
Nice - another fellow from Toronto like me lol
Oh so itâs not just a Xbox thing? Anyway I hope something is done with this for all the non English speaking friends. I wonder if getting a publisher or studio within these countries could help.
Iâm pretty sure both are not authentic 16 century GermanBavarian. Font should also be different if we are anal about this.
But wonât Scalpers raise the price on their consoles as well?
The point is that people were buying the consoles even with scalplerâs prices so if the retailers increase the prices (with Sonyâs official prize increase) it wonât matter. Playstation is a hot item.
Picture is still correct. No one would use âZwei Unschuldigerâ in German.
What would it say in 16th century Bavaria then? Until we know that, everything is wrong.
No, most are like that. Localization overall is like that, in movies and TV as well. Good localization is expensive and takes time.
Yeah, thatâs true. I just hate the german language.
If they wrote it authentic a German would have probably great difficulties reading it. Our language history before Luther is ähm, complicated.
Yeah, thatâs what I was thinking too. We borrowed a lot of German words from that time, and after that from French, and later on English. Mix that with our old norse⌠Swedish is hard to learn, or so Iâm told and have varied a lot. 16th century Swedish isâŚreadable but very different both in spelling, grammar and synthax etc.
Iâve studied a bit of German⌠itâs not easy and a lot of rules, or lack thereof and exceptions, makes no sense haha. Our languages are similar though, with a lot of common words so that helps a bit.
Yeah, localization is a necessary investment. I still canât fathom how Psychonauts on Xbox had a whole french localization and Psychonauts 2 had none for example. Xbox donât see the benefits, but thatâs really important. I see so many angry comments on games that doesnât support french language, sometimes not even subtitles, in the store and itâs been going on for a while.
They really need to step up their language support, itâs very embarrassing to read about. They can certainly afford it.
I remember an indie dev saying that when working on subtitles or anything written on screen, no game is prepared for German writing. You have to plan in advance the space for that and itâs never enough !
I want some acquisition
Yeah, we also have that German specialty of super long words. Itâs not used much, but allowed in the Swedish language. Words like parkeringsautomatsutbytarplats is technically allowed, but no one talks or write like that hehe.
Myself, I prefer authentic spoken language (if applicable, otherwise English) in whatever I play or watch, and English subs.
Yup. We always made sure to have 2.5 times the space from the get go and still had to revise after translations came back.
