XboxEra Community Hangout |OT8| Waiting for E3 2023

I’m no TV expert but I hear people say Sony’s build quality and resell value are notably higher than others.

Yes

As for cost… Yeah, Sony TVs can be pricey. I wasn’t arguing that, I was just commenting on LG and Samsung TVs having “better quality for cheaper”

Cheaper? Almost always. Better? Depends on your needs.

The usual price breakout is close to what we see with 2022 sets, where for 65" displays Sony is around $4K while LG is around $2.5K.

The bargains to be had are buying last year’s sets, where an LG C1 65" is $1.6K. You can buy two of those for less than the price of the 2022 Sony. Or you can buy an 83" LG C1 for similar price.

I think it serves people better to upgrade sooner with last-years model than holding onto a top end for longer. You spend around the same amount but get upgrades and advancements sooner. In 2022 one can buy a 2021 65" and upgrade to a 2024 65" in 2025 for the same price or cheaper than buying a 2022 65" and holding onto it until 2028. It’s still the same 6 year time period of spending around $4K for a 65" set; 2 sets in 6 years versus 1 set in 6 years.

Watching the FextraLife and IGN hands on previews, it seems like combat still has it’s issues but feels better and more satisfying than their previous games. Since you’re fighting machines, it makes sense for them to move clunky and stiff. And of course, you play as a machine.

I’m just very happy that I can make the game less souls like since I don’t care for those games at all. This gets me back to being interested and most likely a day one purchase for me.

While not perfect, I loved GreedFall. Such a great 8.5/10 game in my opinion.

I seriously doubt that Wo Long will have anything like this. The devs have already said that it’s a hard game but not just for the sake of being hard whatever that means.

Flintlock looks to be more action oriented than Ashen was and I haven’t seen any indication that it’s souls like in regards to respawning enemies and losing the “loot” you gained when dying.

Never liked this quote. Plenty of games were rough when they release and got notably improved

Plenty of delayed games have come out and still sucked

Yeah this was back in a time when patches weren’t a thing. What you got on a disc/cartridge is what you got.

It’s definitely a different situation in modern gaming with online patches and live service models. The first impression can actually change now, but developers shouldn’t push it still.

Just look at FF7 Remake if it ever lands on Xbox in 2030. It’ll still be a mediocre game at best.

Im not sure if he ever even actually said this

At least I remember seeing someone say that or that its been taken out of context or something

But it has been used ad nauseam over the last 20 years, by people who think they are being smart and making an amazing point

…sorry, Ace

Not to mention we’ll likely be too busy with TES VI by then to even care. Or maybe actually Fallout 5 by that time.

I don’t feel like this is much tbh.

Sure, but still first impression is very important.

Not to mention, I recall Miyamoto discussed how much he disliked how this quote has survived the post-patch era.

True enough

I mean… is it though? Look at how many games have had horrible first impressions that have gone on to become markedly better and a thriving, vast community - Destiny 2, Fallout 76, No Man’s Sky, ESO - to name a few.

Maybe, but this will encourage developers to keep with micro-transactions and try to find new ways to implement it in their games.
