Anything that isn’t striving for Photorealism is a "cartoon " to many “gamers” these days. Some tie " maturity " to things looking realistic, gritty and drab. Stylization is “kiddy” to them.

I googled a bit about it and it’s all old info from last year, delayed to 2023 and such.
Black Myth Wukong was never delayed. Game Science always said that it would be 2023 at the earliest and that it’s going to be a trilogy. Not just a single game.
Not sure if you noticed the same or not… But the game already looked scaled back on visuals to me in the new footage shown
