Or a better game could come out in the next 9 months. Not likely because it set a high bar, but don’t know why people act like it’s impossible.
With this post and the recent news with AoE mobile success over China, the mobile future looks strong for Xbox.
I can definitely appreciate what the game did on a technical level but I just never did get attached to GTA 5 like i did the older games. I think it was mainly because I didn’t really enjoy the story much (the whole satire stuff didn’t really do it for me), a lot of the missions did feel a bit repetitive and the 3 characters didn’t really click with me. It was the opposite with Red Dead 2 though. I absolutely loved the story and characters in that and again while mission variety may have been lacking a bit in this as well, it’s weird how you can over look that a lot more when you find yourself fully engrossed in a game.
I’m still looking forward to GTA 6 though. I wonder whether the story in that will have a more serious tone to it like GTA 4 and Red Dead 2 or if it’ll be somewhat similar to GTA 5’s.
Certainly. But the odds of a game coming along with a 97 (?) metacritic, sales upwards of 15M at this point, and a breakthrough for the series that’s being compared to BOTW and being mentioned as “the best game ever” is probably fairly low.
I agree with you about the story in V, it didn’t do all that much for me either. I did like the stuff with Franklin in his neighborhood, really brought me back to San Andreas, loved that. But didn’t care all that much about Michael except for some funny parts with tearing down the house. Trevor had some funny stuff too. As for 3 characters, I can see where you’re coming from, with one protagonist you can get fully immersed, focused on it, three is a bit much. But it wouldn’t surprise me if 6 has more than one protagonist again though.
As for tone of story, really wouldn’t mind a more serious tone either, while still keeping the humorous stuff from side activities and the in-game TV and internet stuff making fun of… Hollywood basically, lol. But I wonder what will turn out to be true about all the rumors. About having different eras instead of one. What the location will be. And the rumor about a always evolving map like Fortnite. That’s the one thing I just don’t know what to think of. I don’t need a singleplayer story compared to a online game.
We’ll see.
I’m still sad Bully 2 never happened. Early this year Tom Henderson gave me slight hopes but…nah.
They already skipped Xbox with their latest game DNF Duel which is the same IP for Project AK. Their other console game Project Magnum is also coming for PS4/5 only. So as we can see, it’s not a good sign.
In the case of Sakuna, I actually want to explain an interesting backstory… When the game was first announced, it was only coming to PC and PS4. Not Switch either. The devs were expecting a whopping 30k units sold…
Somewhere during development, Nintendo took notice of this game, and saw the potential. So Nintendo personally funded the Switch port, and HEAVILY marketed the game on Nintendo Direct and E3.
Thanks to Nintendo’s efforts the game vastly smashed that 30k units goal. The game sold 1.5 MILLION units. In Japan most of these were on Switch.
I would like to see Xbox do this kind of thing too. See a cool game that is NOT coming to Xbox, fund an Xbox port and market the shit out of it and treat the devs like gold. They’ll never skip you again that’s for sure. (In fact, this is pretty much what happened with the Yakuza series). But of course, Xbox marketing (I know Phil just extremely recently was given the reigns for this) still needs serious work (with Yakuza, they had a big backlog for Game Pass to push the brand on Xbox. A game like Sakuna is a new IP so there would be nothing to add to Game Pass to push it there). Nintendo are masters at it.
That’s disappointing yeah. Is this a Japanese company?
I think they’re Korean. A couple years ago they had released a MOBA that was console exclusive to Xbox, but they weren’t happy with the game for whatever reason and shut all the servers down. I think the Xbox servers were the last ones to be shut down.
Ben Thaker-Fell would like a word
I don’t understand this reference.
Strange. If it’s a good Souls like game I hope it comes to Xbox
Come on now…it’s a racing game and we all have seen racing games aren’t given proper consideration for a GOTY award. It’s not exactly “like for like” here.
While the genres are different, the release dates are similar and there was talk last year about how FH5 came out too close to the voting deadline for TGA to have as much of a shot as other games.
And Starfield is releasing two days after FH5 did.
I want to live in a world where nobody cares about GOTY nonsense. I truly do not understand the fascination with awards and award shows for those who did not have a hand in creating the content. It just leads to angst and things to be “outraged” over because of other people’s subjective opinions.
So basically, you’re agreeing that despite releasing closer to end of year, Starfield will have a hard time winning over Elden Ring? I don’t understand what you’re trying to say here otherwise, unless you’re just looking to provide some more context which is always good in my book!
Indeed! I want to clarify that I don’t care. I find the idea that people are getting upset with the proclamations of Elden Ring being GOTY already to be interesting to say the least. It’s all subjective right? My GOTY last year was Chicory for example. This year might be Tunic, who knows?
