It’s ports of a relatively niche series in an already niche genre. 10k+ is perfectly fine. The profit must be better than on Xbox if they keep putting them there and stopped with Xbox.
There are hundreds of millions Android phones. Do you really think that on Xbox it would sell less? Even Ace Attorney sold around 10k on much smaller Xbox One userbase.
It is just Square Enix does not care.
Future August GP day 1 ?
I had completely forgotten a second game had been announced already.
Well the reality is mobile keeps getting Saga games and Xbox doesn’t, so I’m not sure what to say.
I guess Xbox has to shake the “not a good place for JRPGs” image. A first party one and grabbing a major one for day 1 Game Pass would do some good but as I always say I don’t think JRPGs are what MS is looking for when it comes to “day 1 on Game Pass” unless it’s indie because it’s cheap.
You say acquisition which would certainly work, but I’m entirely unconvinced MS (or Sony or anyone for the matter) will be buying up the JP publishers. I just don’t think this consolidation will hit Japan. It’s yet to and none of them seem to be wanting to sell.
Anyway speaking of Square here comes more news for their JRPG that actually is hitting Xbox. Sadly I think tri-ace kinda sucks for the past long while so I’ll probably skip unless it’s Game Pass
I think safe games for 2023 are Starfield, Redfall, Project Mara and Avowed. Maybe Hellblade 2.
Otherwise we probably get some multiplayer game. I think DF is making one not sure where I heard it
Ahh Contraband also and potentially more who knows
Safe to say 2023 will be fire🙋♂️
I think it happens because the high ups see that huge mobile market and want to release the games there in hope that they will get the big money. With gaming becoming more and more consolidated and smartphones becoming more powerful, a lot of smaller games (at least) will have mobile support.
I think Microsoft’s only hope there is an acquisition. I don’t see any big third party japanese game hitting Game Pass Day 1 - aside this chronicles game or whatever it is called but it is essentially partially funded by Microsoft. And Sony is very very aggressive in getting marketing deals on Japanese games (or at least showcasing them on their events).
Since I finished it back on 2005, Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song is among top 5 best games I ever played on my life, shame on SE not reviving this gem with a FF7R-like treatment.
Well, because it is not FF
Eiyuden Chronicle was a kickstarter game, so it was probably cheap for Game Pass. The “spin off” game that just hit Game Pass did not turn JRPG gamers heads to Game Pass whatsoever, though maybe the full game next year might? Kickstarter games by “former x talent” usually fail to deliver though so I’m not sure
I don’t think Sony has Japanese games under an iron fist like this. In fact one of my falling outs with Sony was that I felt they didn’t market Japanese games nearly enough. You never saw Yakuza at Sony showcases when they had it exclusively for example. Sony does have Capcom and Square on “their side” but that’s about it, not that aggressive IMO. I would actually say Bamco and Sega (aside from Atlus who Sony doesn’t market either) are more on “MS’s side” even. They should try to get a Day 1 GP JRPG from either of those, but even you agree with me that they will probably not drop the money bag required to get something like that on GP day 1.
Up until last year’s showcase I thought MS was pretty good at showcasing Japanese games. Only last year’s showcase was a blunder on this aspect so I’m really hoping they fix that this year.
Hopefully its better than the shitshow than was sword and shield
Hopefully it looks better than Arceus
Why would it turn JRPG gamers heads though? It is a single game. Xbox needs consistency so the discussions regarding whether the game is skipping Xbox or not dissappeared. Or Xbox should go Nintendo’s route - grow big on their own food to a point where other companies are running towards Switch like greased lightning
Sony gets more with less. They don’t need to do anything - any japanese game that is released to the west, won’t skip Playstation (maybe there are exceptions, not sure). Microsoft should really do something with Square Enix and Capcom. And they actually tried with Capcom in the past (at least with DMC) and also with Square Enix (with FF) but then dropped the ball.
abandon hope
I mean arceus looked fine for an open area pokemon game
Plus its on switch hardware. Dont expect anything to look better than above average for any game these days.
This is kind of BS it’s comming to Mobile and not xbox
So no xbox. But its coming to mobile. Lmao. How cheap would it be to put on xbox? Seriously.
In case you needed a reminder in how little Xbox means in JRPG circles…
You literally remind us everyday, so I don’t think we do.
On all consoles Phew, Xbox has a long road ahead.
Pokemon arceus looked below average.
