Yeah I won’t lie as much as i would love to play the game on Xbox, i have given up that it’ll come out. But as you said, even if we do get part 1…how long will we have to wait for part 2 to come out - we could be looking at another 4 years or so!

Unless this long wait for part 1 was because Sony was about to make it fully PS only and then Phil swooped in and negotiated a deal with them or SE. In that case the wait for part 2 could be much shorter.
But I’m completely talking hypothecially here, I personally don’t believe it at all. I saw people on Twitter saying that nothing is certain, or official and that’s it’s only a rumor about Sony locking it up but let’s just say if not in June, then never.

Already proven that themselves by making Horizon, GT, and GoWR cross-gen anyway. Square making FF16 cross-gen wouldn’t make a difference or bad image for Sony because it wouldn’t be Sony’s decision anyway.

The deal overall might not be bad short-term. Square got a cheque already. Will benefit from the sales as well. Sony got what they wanted which is exclusivity. But it could undermine and jeopardize the value and growth potential of FF, which is already in a decline.

I think the deal was either done in pre-COVID era (like with FF7R) or nobody expected the shortages (Microsoft decision to go with Series S helped a lot). Now with Microsoft going all in, investing in cloud and other stuff, I would not be surprised if Square Enix would be interested in working with Microsoft to grow FF. Because Sony is certainly not a partner with whom FF can grow at all.
